PABCO Roofing Shingles Review: Lines, Specs, Prices

PABCO shingles reviewed: Premier ($30.75 a bundle, Oct 2026), Prestige and Signature Cut lines compared on Class 4 impact, wind, warranty and colors.

Reviewed by The Roofing Brief Team. Last reviewed: October 2026.

PABCO roofing shingles are laminated fiberglass asphalt shingles made by PABCO Roofing Products of Tacoma, Washington, part of Pacific Coast Building Products, and sold mostly through western US suppliers. The lineup runs from Premier ($30.75 per bundle, about $123 per square, at Chinook Lumber in October 2026) up to the heavyweight, UL 2218 Class 4 Prestige and the Signature Cut collection (Paramount, Paramount Advantage, Cascade). Every line carries ASTM D3161 Class F and ASTM D7158 Class H wind ratings, a UL 790 Class A fire rating and a limited lifetime warranty, per PABCO’s comparison chart and product pages.

This review is compiled from PABCO’s product pages and comparison chart, trade press coverage of PABCO’s Class 4 announcements, retailer listings and published third-party reviews. The Roofing Brief did not run hands-on tests, weather the shingles or impact-test them. Where a number is not publicly documented, we say so rather than guess.

PABCO roofing shingles at a glance

PABCO builds two shingle families: the traditional laminated lines (Premier, Prestige, Premier Radiance) and the Signature Cut lines with an open-tooth, cut-away look (Paramount, Paramount Advantage, Cascade). Every current line carries a UL 790 Class A fire rating and a limited lifetime warranty; every line except Premier Radiance lists Algae Defender with a 20-year algae warranty on PABCO’s comparison chart.

Line Style Price tier (PABCO chart) Wind warranty Impact (UL 2218) Fire Colors Warranty (transferable / non-prorated) Source
Premier Architectural laminate $ 110 mph standard, 130 mph high-wind application; 15 years Class 3 Class A 8 30 yr / 15 yr PABCO Premier page
Prestige Heavyweight laminate $$ 110 / 130 mph; 15 years Class 4 Class A 8 40 yr / 20 yr PABCO Prestige page
Premier Radiance Solar-reflective laminate $$ 110 / 130 mph; 15 years Class 3 Class A 4 30 yr / 15 yr PABCO Premier Radiance page
Paramount Signature Cut, open tooth $$$ 110 / 130 mph; 15 years Class 4 (since Sept 2024) Class A 4 50 yr / 20 yr PABCO chart; Roofing Contractor
Paramount Advantage Signature Cut, heavyweight $$$$ 110 / 130 mph; 15 years Class 4 (since Sept 2024) Class A 4 50 yr / 20 yr PABCO chart; Roofing Contractor
Cascade Signature Cut, diamond tooth $$$ 110 / 130 mph; 15 years Class 4 (since Sept 2024) Class A 3 50 yr / 20 yr PABCO chart; Roofing Contractor

Wind coverage figures are warranty terms tied to install method, not a raw uplift test result: PABCO lists 110 mph for its standard application and 130 mph for its high-wind application, with 15-year limited wind coverage on every line. Non-prorated coverage is the window in which a valid material defect is reimbursed at full value before the payout starts declining.

Who makes PABCO shingles, and where can you buy them?

PABCO Roofing Products lists its address as 1476 Thorne Rd, Tacoma, WA 98421, and its site credits Pacific Coast Building Products as the trademark owner. Distribution is concentrated in the western United States: the retailer listings we found in October 2026 came from western suppliers such as Chinook Lumber in Washington. In much of the Midwest, South and East Coast you may not find a local supplier or a contractor who installs PABCO regularly, which matters for warranty service and future color-match repairs.

Use PABCO’s where-to-buy locator before you choose a color, and ask your roofer how many PABCO roofs they installed in the past 12 months. A shingle you cannot source locally is hard to match after a storm, regardless of the 50-year transferable terms on paper. Compare stocking realities the same way you would when choosing any brand in our best asphalt shingles guide.

PABCO shingle specs by line

All six lines share the same published standards on PABCO’s product pages: ASTM D3161 Class F (wind), ASTM D7158 Class H (wind), UL 790 Class A and CAN/ULC-S107 (fire), ASTM D3018 Type I and CSA A123.5 (fiberglass shingle standards). The lines differ on impact class, weight class and cut.

PABCO Premier: the value architectural line

Premier is PABCO’s entry architectural line and competes with mid-tier laminates such as Owens Corning Duration and GAF Timberline HDZ. It is a traditional laminated fiberglass shingle with a Class A fire rating, Algae Defender, 8 colors (Antique Black, Buckskin Tan, Pewter Gray, Harvest Brown, Oakwood, Sherwood Green, Weathered Wood, Weathered White) and a 30-year transferable, 15-year non-prorated warranty. PABCO’s Premier page lists UL 2218 Class 3 impact resistance, one class below the top rating.

Best for: budget-conscious full-roof replacements in the western US where a Class 4 hail discount is not on the table. Chinook Lumber listed Premier at $30.75 per bundle in October 2026, or $123 per square at 4 bundles per square, and Roofing Insights cites about $79.09 per square in its Premier vs Prestige comparison. If your insurer offers a hail discount for Class 4 shingles, step up to Prestige or a Signature Cut line instead.

PABCO Prestige: the heavyweight, Class 4 line

Prestige is the heavyweight version of Premier, which PABCO positions for custom homes, commercial steep-slope work and demanding environments. It earned the UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating (the highest of four classes) in September 2023, per Roofing Contractor, and it upgrades the warranty to 40-year transferable coverage with a 20-year non-prorated window while keeping Class A fire and the same 8 colors as Premier.

Best for: hail-exposed regions and homeowners who want the strongest impact rating without switching to the open-tooth Signature Cut look. UL 2218 Class 4 means the shingle survived a 2 in steel ball dropped from 20 ft, per GAF’s Class 4 explainer. Class 4 shingles can qualify for insurance premium discounts in some states; confirm the discount amount with your carrier in writing before you pay the step up from Premier’s $ tier to Prestige’s $$ tier.

PABCO Paramount and the Signature Cut collection

The Signature Cut collection (Paramount, Paramount Advantage and Cascade) is PABCO’s designer tier, using an open-tooth, cut-away laminate that reads more like a dimensional wood-shake or slate profile than a standard architectural shingle. PABCO extended UL 2218 Class 4 impact certification to the entire Signature Cut line in September 2024, per Roofing Contractor, so all three now carry the top impact rating alongside 50-year transferable, 20-year non-prorated warranties.

Paramount is the original open-tooth profile in 4 colors (Antique Black, Pewter Gray, Oakwood, Weathered Wood). Paramount Advantage is the heavyweight version in the same 4 colors and the only $$$$ line on PABCO’s chart. Cascade uses a patented diamond-cut tooth in 3 colors (Antique Black, Pewter Gray, Oakwood). Best for: homeowners who want a textured roof with Class 4 protection and the longest transferable coverage PABCO offers.

Premier Radiance: the solar-reflective line

Premier Radiance is PABCO’s cool-roof line, built with solar-reflective granules that reflect infrared rays to reduce attic heat gain. PABCO’s chart says it meets California’s Energy Code Title 24, Part 6 and the Los Angeles Energy Code Title 31 for steep-slope roofing. It comes in 4 colors (Cool Black, Cool Oakwood, Cool Pewter Gray, Cool Weathered Wood), lists UL 2218 Class 3 impact resistance and carries 30-year transferable, 15-year non-prorated coverage; Algae Defender is not listed for it on the chart.

Best for: hot, sun-heavy climates and California projects that need a Title 24 compliant steep-slope assembly. Ask for the CRRC-rated solar reflectance of the exact color before you order, because Title 24 compliance is color-specific. See how reflective granules behave in our explainer on solar reflective shingles before you pay the upcharge.

How much do PABCO shingles cost?

PABCO Premier price: $30.75 per bundle at Chinook Lumber in October 2026, which is $123 per square (100 sq ft) at 4 bundles per square. Roofing Insights’ Premier vs Prestige comparison cites about $79.09 per square. PABCO does not publish list prices; its chart ranks the lines from $ (Premier) to $$$$ (Paramount Advantage).

At $123 per square, Premier shingles are about 15 to 25 percent of a $500 to $800 installed square; the rest is underlayment, flashing, labor, tear-off and disposal. PABCO shingle warranty terms explained

Every current PABCO line carries a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects, plus a defined transferable window and a shorter non-prorated period. Premier and Premier Radiance offer 30-year transferable, 15-year non-prorated coverage. Prestige steps up to 40-year transferable, 20-year non-prorated. The Signature Cut lines (Paramount, Paramount Advantage, Cascade) reach 50-year transferable, 20-year non-prorated.

The number that protects you is the non-prorated window, because after it ends the payout scales down toward the shingle’s depreciated value, not replacement cost. Wind coverage runs 15 years at 110 mph for the standard application and 130 mph for PABCO’s high-wind application, and the algae warranty runs 20 years on the Algae Defender lines. Manufacturer warranties cover defects, not installation errors, and transfer rules have deadlines. We break down how these payouts work in our guide to roof warranty transfer and proration reality.

PABCO pros and cons

PABCO’s published strengths are long warranties, Class 4 impact on 4 of 6 lines, ASTM D3161 Class F wind on every line, and distinctive open-tooth profiles. Its main limitation is geographic: concentrated western-US distribution makes sourcing and service harder elsewhere. The lists summarize the trade-offs from published specs and retailer listings.

  • Pros: Class A fire and ASTM D3161 Class F wind on every line; Class 4 impact on Prestige and all three Signature Cut lines; 20-year non-prorated coverage on the upper tiers; Premier listed at $30.75 per bundle at a Washington retailer in October 2026; distinctive open-tooth designer profiles.
  • Cons: Distribution concentrated in the western US, so availability and warranty service are limited in much of the country; Premier and Premier Radiance are UL 2218 Class 3, not Class 4; fewer color options on the Signature Cut lines (3 to 4) than national rivals; installed pricing is thinly documented publicly.

How PABCO compares to Owens Corning, GAF, and Malarkey

Against the national brands, PABCO competes on warranty length (up to 50 years transferable) and Class 4 breadth (4 of 6 lines) rather than color range or nationwide availability. The table compares the Class 4 option and warranty structure of each brand’s flagship laminate family, from each maker’s published product pages.

Brand line Type Class 4 option Non-prorated window Reach
PABCO Prestige Heavyweight laminate Yes, Prestige itself (UL 2218 Class 4) 20 yr Regional (western US)
Owens Corning Duration Architectural laminate Duration FLEX and Duration STORM only Varies by SureNail tier National
GAF Timberline HDZ Architectural laminate Timberline AS II (SBS-modified); HDZ RS is the solar-reflective Reflector Series, not an impact line Varies by system National
Malarkey Vista AR / Legacy Polymer-modified laminate Vista AR is UL 2218 Class 4 Varies by tier National

If you are in PABCO’s western footprint and want Class 4 protection with a 20-year non-prorated window, PABCO is a legitimate alternative to the national names. Outside that footprint, a nationally stocked brand is usually the safer service choice. For head-to-head detail, see our Owens Corning shingle review and Malarkey shingle review.

Which PABCO shingle line should you choose?

Match the line to your priority: budget, impact protection, designer look or energy code. Every line shares Class A fire and ASTM D3161 Class F wind, so the decision comes down to impact class, warranty length, cut and price tier.

Frequently asked questions

Are PABCO shingles good quality?

On published specs, PABCO shingles match the national brands’ mainstream lines: every line carries UL 790 Class A fire, ASTM D3161 Class F and ASTM D7158 Class H wind ratings and a limited lifetime warranty, and Prestige plus the Signature Cut lines are UL 2218 Class 4. Premier and Premier Radiance are Class 3. Availability outside the western US is the main practical limit.

Where are PABCO shingles made and sold?

PABCO Roofing Products lists its address in Tacoma, Washington, and its trademarks belong to Pacific Coast Building Products. Distribution is concentrated in the western United States, and the retailer listings we found in October 2026 came from western suppliers. In much of the Midwest, South and East Coast, local availability is limited, which affects both installation and future repair sourcing.

What is the difference between PABCO Premier and Prestige?

Premier is the value architectural line with a 30-year transferable, 15-year non-prorated warranty and a UL 2218 Class 3 impact rating. Prestige is the heavyweight upgrade: it is UL 2218 Class 4 and extends coverage to 40-year transferable, 20-year non-prorated. Both share Class A fire, Algae Defender and the same 8 colors. PABCO’s chart puts Premier in its $ tier and Prestige in its $$ tier.

Are PABCO shingles Class 4 impact resistant?

Some are. PABCO Prestige earned the UL 2218 Class 4 rating in September 2023, the highest of four impact classes. In September 2024, PABCO extended Class 4 certification to the entire Signature Cut line: Paramount, Paramount Advantage and Cascade. Premier and Premier Radiance are rated UL 2218 Class 3, so choose Prestige or a Signature Cut line for Class 4 hail protection.
