Euroshield Roofing Review (2026): Cost, Specs and Warranty Fine Print

Euroshield roofing review: 6 rubber profiles, UL 2218 Class 4, Class C fire, $8.50 to $14.50/sq ft, and what the 50-year pro-rated warranty excludes.

Euroshield Roofing Review (2026): Cost, Specs and Warranty Fine Print

Euroshield roofing is a molded recycled-rubber shingle panel made by G.E.M. Inc. in Calgary, Alberta, sold in four profiles (Beaumont Shake, Ranchlands Shake, Vermont Slate, Rundle Slate) plus two “HP” hail-proof versions. Every profile is UL 2218 Class 4 for impact, but the QAI code report lists the assemblies as Class C for fire, and the maker’s own 2023 cost figure is $8.50 to $14.50 per square foot installed.

This review is built from Euroshield’s primary documents: QAI Code Evaluation Report CERus-1013 (revised April 2025, expires March 2027), the Limited 50 Year Pro-Rated Warranty (effective for installs after August 1, 2024), the two installation guides (February 2024 for Vermont and Beaumont, November 2025 for Ranchlands and Rundle) and the March 2026 brochure. Where those documents disagree with each other, we show both numbers.

Euroshield roofing key numbers at a glance

Six figures settle most Euroshield questions: $8.50 to $14.50 per sq ft installed, 240 to 360 lb per square, hail covered up to 2 in for 50 years, Class C fire, no wind coverage above 145 km/h, and a 4:12 minimum slope. Each comes from a named Euroshield or QAI document, and the fire and wind rows are the two that most contractor pages leave out.

Who makes Euroshield and what is it made of?

Euroshield is made by G.E.M. Inc. (Global Environmental Manufacturing), founded in 1999 by Henry Kamphuis, at 9330 48 St SE, Calgary, Alberta, per the company’s BBB profile and its installation guides. Euroshield’s FAQ states that recycled tire rubber makes up about 70% of the material and that total recycled content is 95%.

The March 2026 brochure states that about 300 tires go into one Euroshield roof, that 7 million tires have been diverted to date, and that Euroshield roofs are used in “13+” countries. QAI’s report describes the panels as molded from “post-consumer waste recycled rubber and additives” and notes bi-annual QAI factory inspections in Calgary. The color is mixed through the panel during molding, per the Euroshield FAQ, so a scratch shows the same color rather than a base layer.

Founding in 1999 sets a hard limit on track record: in 2026 no Euroshield roof can be older than about 27 years. The 50-year life figure is a warranty term and an accelerated-aging projection (QAI cites ASTM G155 xenon-arc aging data), not an observed service life.

Euroshield product lines: Beaumont, Ranchlands, Vermont and Rundle

Euroshield sells two shake looks and two slate looks, and two of them come in an HP version with a hail warranty for any stone size during the first 20 years. Panels are 36 by 22.5 in (Ranchlands, Rundle) or 40 by 21 in (Beaumont, Vermont), and every profile covers a square with 40 panels, per the maker’s specification page.

Sources: Euroshield product specifications page and Products page (accessed October 2026); Euroshield brochure dated March 19, 2026; Euroshield Limited 50 Year Pro-Rated Warranty. QAI spells the shake “Ranchland” and the slate “Vermont Slate Loc”; the HP versions are not named separately in CERus-1013.

Rundle Slate is the only profile without a Driftwood option in the 2026 brochure, so a buyer who wants a light tan slate look is limited to Vermont Slate or Vermont Slate HP. Euroshield’s warranty reserves the right to discontinue colors and substitute “a suitable equivalent product,” so a repair 20 years from now may not match the original color name.

How much does a Euroshield roof weigh?

A Euroshield roof weighs 240 to 360 lb per square on the maker’s specification page, against about 230 lb per square that Euroshield’s FAQ gives for architectural asphalt. QAI’s report lists different installed weights for three of the four profiles, so the table checks each figure against the per-panel weights QAI publishes.

Profile QAI panel weight x 40 panels per square Maker spec page QAI Table 1 installed weight
Ranchlands Shake 7.7 lb 308 lb 310 lb 3.4 lb/sq ft = 340 lb
Rundle Slate 8.9 lb 356 lb 360 lb 3.4 lb/sq ft = 340 lb
Beaumont Shake 5.9 lb 236 lb 240 lb 2.1 lb/sq ft = 210 lb
Vermont Slate 6.1 lb 244 lb 240 lb 2.4 lb/sq ft = 240 lb

Roofing Brief arithmetic from QAI CERus-1013 Sections 2.2.1 to 2.2.4 and Table 1, and the Euroshield product specifications page. The 40-panel count checks out: a 36 in panel at a 10 in exposure covers 360 sq in (2.5 sq ft), and so does a 40 in panel at a 9 in exposure.

The panel-count arithmetic matches the maker’s numbers within 4 lb, so use the maker’s 240 to 360 lb range for structural questions. Even Rundle Slate at 360 lb is far below natural slate, which our composite tile weight guide covers. Euroshield’s FAQ says no added structural support is needed at these weights; an engineer, not the brochure, should confirm that on an older rafter roof.

Euroshield ratings: impact, fire and wind

Euroshield’s impact rating is the strongest available (UL 2218 Class 4), its fire rating is the lowest classified level (Class C), and its wind numbers range from 90 mph to 170 mph depending on which document you read. QAI CERus-1013 is the document a building official will use, so its numbers come first below.

Impact: UL 2218 Class 4, plus the HP claim

All four profiles are Class IV under UL 2218 over minimum 15/32 in plywood with any underlayment, per QAI Table 5. In that test a 2 in steel ball is dropped from 20 ft. Euroshield also publishes a video of Vermont Slate HP struck by a 4 in simulated hailstone fired at 183 mph from an air cannon; that is a maker demonstration, not a listed test standard.

Fire: Class C, and what that rules out

QAI lists Euroshield as “roofing coverings for use in Class C roof assemblies,” tested to ASTM E108, over two layers of ASTM D226 Type II felt on 15/32 in plywood (QAI Table 4). Euroshield’s own March 6, 2025 blog post confirms the products “are considered Class C” and says some homeowners “have had to be turned away due to the product being a Class C.”

Class C matters only where a code asks for a class. The 2021 IRC Section R902.1 requires Class A, B or C roofing in jurisdictions designated by law and where the roof edge is less than 3 ft from a lot line. Section 504.2 of the 2025 California Wildland-Urban Interface Code (Title 24, Part 7) requires a Class A roof covering, per Los Angeles County’s 2026 fire hazard plan-review notes, so Euroshield does not meet that bar. See our fire-resistant roofing guide for Class A options.

QAI also records a spontaneous ignition temperature of at least 650 F (ASTM D1929) and a CC2 burning rate (ASTM D635). Some contractor pages describe Euroshield as Class A; the maker’s 2025 post and the QAI report both say Class C, and no Euroshield document we found lists a Class A assembly.

Wind: six different numbers

Euroshield documents give six wind figures, and only the warranty figure tells you what the company will pay for. The code classification is ASTM D3161 Class F (the test’s top class, run at 110 mph) for Vermont Slate with six 1 1/2 in ring-shank nails per panel.

145 km/h (about 90 mph) Warranty excludes damage from winds above this speed, “or anytime after” exposure to them Warranty, “What’s not covered,” item 6

QAI limits all of its ratings to buildings with a mean roof height of 40 ft or less in Exposure Category B, and to areas outside Florida’s High Velocity Hurricane Zone (Miami-Dade and Broward). Florida Product Approval FL46844 refers back to CERus-1013 for its wind assemblies.

The Euroshield warranty, clause by clause

Euroshield’s website calls it a “Limited Lifetime Warranty,” but the PDF it links to is titled “Limited 50 Year Pro-Rated Warranty” and applies to products installed after August 1, 2024. It covers panel defects for 50 years, pays labor only in the first 5 years, and turns into a pro-rated refund of the product price after month 120.

Clause What the document says
Manufacturing defects 50 years from installation, for panels installed per the Euroshield Installation Guide
Basic hail Cracking, splitting or perforation of field panels from hail 2 in or smaller, 50 years; surface scratches and scuffs excluded
Hail-proof (Vermont Slate HP, Beaumont Shake HP) Hail larger than 2 in for the first 20 years; basic hail terms for the remaining 30
Months 1 to 120 Repair or replacement of defective panels at G.E.M.’s discretion
Labor Paid only if the defect shows within 5 years; capped at the lesser of the original install cost, local rates, or $200 per 100 sq ft
After month 120 Refund only: months remaining divided by 600, times the original price of the defective panels; installation excluded
Exclusions Winds above 145 km/h; heat distortion from under-vented attics; uniform color change from weathering; ice damming and sliding snow; paint, solvents or cleaners

What the pro-ration pays, worked out

After month 120 the refund is (600 minus months since install) divided by 600, applied only to the price of the defective panels. The table uses an illustrative $12,000 panel price to show the scale; it is a Roofing Brief illustration, not a quoted Euroshield price.

Claim made at Months remaining Refund share On $12,000 of defective panels Labor paid?
Year 4 (month 48) n/a Repair or replace Panels replaced Yes, up to $200 per square
Year 8 (month 96) n/a Repair or replace Panels replaced No (past 5 years)
Month 121 479 79.8% $9,580 No
Year 20 (month 240) 360 60% $7,200 No
Year 30 (month 360) 240 40% $4,800 No
Year 40 (month 480) 120 20% $2,400 No

On a 25-square roof, the $200 per square labor cap tops out at $5,000, and only for defects found in the first 5 years. Brava and DaVinci cap labor at $350 per square for 10 years, as documented in our Brava roof tile review.

How much does Euroshield roofing cost?

Euroshield roofing costs $8.50 to $14.50 per square foot installed in the maker’s November 2023 figure, and $11 to $17 per square foot in the Twin Cities per Owl Roofing (2026). On a 25-square roof that is about $21,000 to $43,000, roughly 1.7 to 2.1 times an architectural asphalt roof at our $5 to $8 baseline.

Roof size Euroshield, maker range ($8.50 to $14.50) Euroshield, Twin Cities ($11 to $17) Architectural asphalt ($5 to $8) Class 4 asphalt ($8 to $13) Standing seam steel ($10 to $18)

Sources: Euroshield, “Metal Roofing vs Euroshield” (November 2, 2023); Owl Roofing, Euroshield in Minnesota (2026); asphalt and metal rates from The Roofing Brief 2026 roofing cost report. Roofing Brief arithmetic; squares are measured roof surface, not floor area.

At midpoints on 25 squares, Euroshield at $11.50 per sq ft comes to $28,750 against $16,250 for architectural asphalt at $6.50, a $12,500 premium. RoofSmart, a Seattle installer, puts a typical Seattle Euroshield roof at $60,000 to $70,000 against about $35,000 for asphalt. RoofSmart does not state the roof size, so that total cannot be converted to a per-square-foot rate.

Line items that push a Euroshield bid up are code-specific: full tear-off (required by the warranty and QAI Section 4.3), deck replacement where sheathing is under 1/2 in, a 24 in metal valley over ice-and-water membrane, and the Florida pattern of 16 nails per panel instead of 6 or 8. Euroshield also offers financing through its website, and RoofingDirect lists Beaumont Shake as quote-only, with price by state and region.

Euroshield vs asphalt, metal, DaVinci, Brava and CeDUR

Euroshield’s edge over the other synthetics is the written hail coverage (2 in for 50 years, any size for 20 years on HP). Its weak points against them are the Class C fire rating and a shorter labor window. The table uses our existing reviews and the 2026 cost report so figures match across The Roofing Brief.

Is Euroshield better than metal roofing?

Euroshield beats standing seam steel on price at the low end ($8.50 vs $10 per sq ft) and on written hail coverage, and loses on fire class (C vs A) and wind warranty. Euroshield’s 2023 post cites 150 and 160 mph wind tests; its warranty stops at 145 km/h. For panel types and prices, see our metal roof cost guide.

Euroshield vs asphalt shingles

Against a Class 4 asphalt shingle at $8 to $13 per sq ft, Euroshield’s maker range overlaps almost entirely, and the difference is the hail warranty and service life claim, not the impact class. Our rubber vs asphalt shingles comparison covers the material-level trade-offs; this page covers the Euroshield brand.

Euroshield roofing problems to check before you buy

The issues that show up in Euroshield’s own documents are rubber odor and gloss when new, heat distortion over under-vented attics, Class C fire limits, a visible “ladder” pattern if panels are racked straight up, and a labor window of 5 years capped at $200 per square. Each one has a specific prevention step in the installation guides.

  • Odor and sheen. The FAQ says the rubber smell dissipates “as long as the attic space has been properly ventilated”; the warranty says the “new mold sheen” settles to a final color and that uniform color change is not covered. The ventilation the guides specify is 1 sq ft of net vent area per 150 sq ft of attic (next item).
  • Heat distortion. The warranty excludes “distortion, warping or curling due to excess heat build-up” in under-vented attics. The guides call for 1 sq ft of net vent area per 150 sq ft of attic, split about 50/50 between eave and ridge, and a 2 in air space under cathedral ceilings.
  • Pattern. Panel joints must sit at least 5 in from joints in the course below; installing straight up the roof “will create an unwanted step-like or ‘ladder’ effect,” per both guides.
  • Cold installs. Both guides print a minimum install temperature of “-20 degrees Celsius (14F).” Those values do not match (minus 20 C is minus 4 F), so ask Euroshield’s tech line (877-387-7667) which applies before a winter job.
  • Repairs. The guides state that repairs made with non-Euroshield components “will void the Euroshield warranty,” which narrows who can patch the roof later.

Cleaning instructions differ from asphalt: the Euroshield FAQ allows a residential pressure washer at 2,000 psi or less, water only, held about 12 in from the surface and sprayed top to bottom. That advice is specific to rubber panels and does not carry over to asphalt shingles.

Which roof should you pick?

Euroshield fits a 4:12 or steeper roof in a hail region with no Class A mandate, where the owner plans to stay long enough to use a 50-year pro-rated warranty. The table maps common situations to a choice based on the QAI scope and warranty terms above.

How to vet a Euroshield quote before you sign

A Euroshield quote should name the exact profile and color, the nail count per panel, the underlayment, and who registers the warranty within 90 days. The steps below follow the order the documents impose, from code fit through warranty transfer.

Gloved hands nailing a brown shake-look rubber roof panel over synthetic underlayment on plywood decking
Euroshield’s guides call for 11-gauge galvanized nails 1 3/4 in long that penetrate 3/4 in through the deck.
  1. Check code fit. Confirm the roof is 4:12 to 20:12, under 40 ft mean height, outside the Florida HVHZ, and not in a zone that requires Class A.
  2. Find an installer. Use the Find an Installer tool on euroshieldroofing.com and ask how many Euroshield roofs the crew has completed. Euroshield’s FAQ also permits DIY installation if its guide and local code are followed.
  3. Get the scope in writing. The bid should list profile (for example “Vermont Slate HP, Grey”), squares, full tear-off, deck repairs, and ice barrier extending 24 in inside the exterior wall line (QAI Section 4.1.1).
  4. Confirm fasteners. 11-gauge galvanized nails, 3/8 in head, 1 3/4 in long, penetrating 3/4 in through the deck: 6 per Vermont Slate panel and 8 per Beaumont Shake panel in the standard pattern, 16 in the Florida pattern. At 40 panels per square that is 240, 320 or 640 nails per square.
  5. Settle the underlayment. The guides require synthetic underlayment meeting ASTM D226, D4869 or D6757; the QAI Class C assembly uses two layers of D226 Type II felt. Ask which one your permit needs.
  6. Check details. Valleys get ice-and-water membrane plus a 24 in metal valley and 18 in membrane strips; flashing is 26 gauge minimum; lock channels at penetrations are filled with Solar Seal #900 or equal; hip and ridge caps take four 2 in galvanized deck screws.
  7. Ask your insurer in writing. Euroshield says its products qualify for the maximum hail discount “from insurers offering such discounts”; get the credit for your exact profile (UL 2218 Class 4, per QAI Table 5) on paper before counting it.
  8. Register within 90 days. Submit the registration at warranty.euroshieldroofing.com and keep the Customer Record page for the next owner.
  9. After a hail storm, act within 30 days. File with your insurer first, collect third-party weather data, and send Registered Mail notice to G.E.M. in Calgary.

Frequently asked questions

How long does an Euroshield roof last?

Euroshield warrants panels for 50 years under its Limited 50 Year Pro-Rated Warranty and markets a 50-plus year life. G.E.M. Inc. was founded in 1999, so no Euroshield roof is older than about 27 years in 2026, and the 50-year figure rests on accelerated aging data (ASTM G155) cited in QAI report CERus-1013. After year 10 the warranty pays a pro-rated refund of panel cost only.

Are Euroshield shingles good?

Euroshield panels carry a UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating and Vermont Slate HP and Beaumont Shake HP add 20 years of coverage for hail of any size, which Euroshield calls the only such warranty available. They are Class C for fire, limited to 4:12 to 20:12 slopes, excluded from the Florida HVHZ, and the warranty excludes wind damage above 145 km/h (about 90 mph).

How much does Euroshield roofing cost compared to asphalt shingles?

Euroshield published $8.50 to $14.50 per square foot installed in November 2023, and Owl Roofing quotes $11 to $17 in the Twin Cities in 2026. Architectural asphalt runs $5 to $8 per square foot in The Roofing Brief 2026 cost report. On 25 squares, midpoints give about $28,750 for Euroshield against $16,250 for asphalt.

Is Euroshield roofing a better choice than metal roofing?

Euroshield costs $8.50 to $14.50 per square foot against $10 to $18 for standing seam steel in our 2026 cost report, and it adds a written 2 in hail warranty. Metal on a noncombustible deck counts as Class A under the 2021 IRC R902.1 exceptions, while Euroshield is Class C, so metal wins wherever a code requires Class A.

Is Euroshield fire rated?

Yes, at Class C. QAI report CERus-1013 lists Euroshield as a Class C roof assembly under ASTM E108 when installed over two layers of ASTM D226 Type II felt on 15/32 in plywood. Euroshield’s March 2025 blog confirms Class C. Areas that require Class A, such as zones under Section 504.2 of the 2025 California WUI Code, rule it out.

Can Euroshield be installed over existing shingles?

No. QAI report CERus-1013 Section 4.3 says the panels are not intended for installation over existing roof systems, and the Euroshield warranty states that failing to remove the existing asphalt, cedar or other covering will void it. The deck must be at least 1/2 in wood structural panel, inspected for rot, with framing no more than 24 in on center.

Where can you buy Euroshield roofing?

Euroshield sells through roofing contractors listed in the Find an Installer tool on euroshieldroofing.com, and RoofingDirect lists Beaumont Shake on a request-a-quote basis with prices that vary by state. Euroshield’s FAQ allows homeowners to buy and self-install if they follow its installation guide and local code. Warranty registration is due within 90 days of installation.

Method note: The Roofing Brief compiles maker documents, code evaluation reports, building codes and dated price listings. We did not install, test or survey Euroshield roofs. Specifications and warranty terms were read on euroshieldroofing.com, warranty.euroshieldroofing.com and qai.org in October 2026 and can change; confirm the current documents for your install date.
