By The Roofing Brief Team. Last reviewed: October 2026.
DaVinci roofing cost runs about $15 to $20 per square foot installed in 2026, which works out to roughly $1,500 to $2,000 per roofing square (100 square feet), according to installers Bill Ragan Roofing and Landmark Roofing. At that rate a 2,500 square foot roof lands near $37,500 to $50,000 and a 3,000 square foot roof near $45,000 to $60,000, before pitch, valleys and copper upgrades push it higher. How much does DaVinci roofing cost per square?
DaVinci roofing costs about $1,500 to $2,000 per roofing square (100 square feet) installed, based on the $15 to $20 per square foot that Bill Ragan Roofing and Landmark Roofing both quote for 2026. HomeGuide’s November 2025 composite roofing guide gives lower category-wide figures, $9 to $12 per sq ft for synthetic slate and $7 to $14 for composite roofing overall, but it also notes that premium brands such as DaVinci and CeDUR cost more. The per-square figures here are a Roofing Brief calculation: the sourced per-square-foot ranges multiplied by 100.
Material alone accounts for a large share. HomeGuide lists DaVinci at $400 to $1,200 per square for material only, against $300 to $800 for EcoStar and $700 to $1,150 for Brava, and says labor makes up about 50 percent of a composite roof’s total cost. Retail list prices for DaVinci field tiles run higher than HomeGuide’s top figure on steep roofs, as the worked table below shows.
| DaVinci cost basis | Reported range | Per square (100 sq ft)* | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Installed, all-in (DaVinci specifically) | $15 to $20 per sq ft | $1,500 to $2,000 | Bill Ragan Roofing, 2026; Landmark Roofing |
| Installed, synthetic slate (all brands) | $9 to $12 per sq ft | $900 to $1,200 | HomeGuide, Nov 2025 |
| Installed, composite shake (all brands) | $6 to $18 per sq ft | $600 to $1,800 | HomeGuide, Nov 2025 |
| Material only, DaVinci | $4 to $12 per sq ft | $400 to $1,200 | HomeGuide brand table, Nov 2025 |
| Labor share of total | About 50% | Not applicable | HomeGuide, Nov 2025 |
| Tear-off of the old roof | $1 to $3 per sq ft | $100 to $300 | HomeGuide, Nov 2025 |

Worked example: DaVinci tile cost from list prices and bundles per square
DaVinci’s technical sheet sets how many bundles each square needs, and the count rises on lower pitches because the tiles must be laid at a shorter exposure. Multiplying those counts by retail list prices from Best Materials (October 2026) gives the field-tile cost before starter, hip and ridge, underlayment, nails, valley metal and labor.
| Product and layout | Bundles per square | Price per bundle | Field tile per square | Per sq ft | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Single-Width Slate, 8 in exposure, 6:12 or steeper | 6.6 | $185.00 (Slate Gray) | $1,221 | $12.21 | DaVinci technical sheet; Best Materials |
| Single-Width Slate, 6 in exposure, 3:12 to 5:12 | 8.8 | $185.00 | $1,628 | $16.28 | DaVinci technical sheet; Best Materials |
| Single-Width Shake, 10 in exposure, 3:12 or steeper | 7.0 | $170.00 list; $130.99 sale (Mossy Cedar) | $1,190 list; $917 sale | $11.90; $9.17 | DaVinci technical sheet; Best Materials shake listing |
| Single-Width Shake, Cool Roof color, 10 in exposure | 7.0 | $186.00 list; $144.99 sale | $1,302 list; $1,015 sale | $13.02; $10.15 | DaVinci technical sheet; Best Materials |
Two things fall out of the arithmetic. A 3:12 to 5:12 slate roof needs 8.8 bundles per square instead of 6.6, so the same roof costs about 33 percent more in field tile than it would at 6:12. And at list price, DaVinci field tile alone can exceed HomeGuide’s $1,200 per square ceiling, so a bid with materials well under $1,000 per square is worth asking about; contractors often buy below retail list.
What does a full DaVinci roof cost by home size?
A complete DaVinci roof commonly costs $37,500 to $50,000 for a 2,500 square foot roof at the $15 to $20 per square foot installers quote, with the exact number driven by roof area rather than floor area. A roof is usually larger than the home’s footprint because of pitch and overhangs: at a 6:12 pitch the roof area is about 1.12 times the flat plan area, so a 2,000 square foot plan carries about 2,240 square feet of roof before overhangs.
Two sourced reference points frame the range. Bill Ragan Roofing prices a 3,000 square foot synthetic slate roof with little complexity at $45,000 to $60,000. HomeGuide’s composite roofing table puts a 2,500 square foot composite roof at $17,500 to $35,000 across all brands, which shows how much of DaVinci’s price is brand and labor premium. Steep pitch, dormers, valleys, and copper flashing push toward the top.
| Roof size | DaVinci at $15 to $20 per sq ft* | All composite brands (HomeGuide) | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1,500 sq ft roof | $22,500 to $30,000 | $10,500 to $21,000 | Roofing Brief calc; HomeGuide table |
| 2,000 sq ft roof | $30,000 to $40,000 | $14,000 to $28,000 | Roofing Brief calc; HomeGuide table |
| 2,500 sq ft roof | $37,500 to $50,000 | $17,500 to $35,000 | Roofing Brief calc; HomeGuide table |
| 3,000 sq ft roof (low complexity) | $45,000 to $60,000 | $21,000 to $42,000 | Bill Ragan Roofing reported; HomeGuide table |

Is DaVinci cheaper than natural slate?
DaVinci is often, but not always, cheaper than natural slate on installed cost. HomeGuide’s slate guide puts natural slate at $10 to $30 per square foot installed and $20,000 to $60,000 for a 2,000 square foot roof, versus $15 to $20 for DaVinci, so the ranges overlap at the low end and slate pulls well above at the high end. DaVinci’s own product pages say its slate costs significantly less than installed natural slate of similar thickness.
The bigger DaVinci savings are structural, not just per square foot. DaVinci’s technical sheet lists Single-Width Slate at 275 to 367 lb per square depending on exposure, while North Country Slate puts natural slate at about 935 lb per square at 1/4 in thick and 1,405 lb at 3/8 in, so a natural slate roof can weigh two and a half to five times as much and may need reinforced framing. HomeGuide prices natural slate tiles at $6 to $16 per sq ft for material and reslating labor at $4 to $14 per sq ft.
How does DaVinci compare to asphalt shingles on cost?
DaVinci costs roughly two to three times more than architectural asphalt shingles up front. Architectural asphalt runs about $5 to $8 per square foot installed in our 2026 Roofing Cost Report, so a 2,000 square foot asphalt roof lands around $10,000 to $16,000, versus $30,000 to $40,000 for DaVinci at $15 to $20. Bill Ragan Roofing describes DaVinci as about three times the cost of architectural shingles.
Lifespan reframes the per-year math, but not as much as marketing suggests. Bill Ragan Roofing says a correctly installed DaVinci roof lasts around 40 to 50 years, and InterNACHI’s life expectancy chart rates architectural asphalt at about 30 years. At the midpoints ($17.50 over 45 years versus $6.50 over 30 years), DaVinci costs about $0.39 per sq ft per year and asphalt about $0.22, so DaVinci wins on weight, look and impact rating rather than on cost per year.
| Material | Installed cost per sq ft | 2,000 sq ft roof | Expected lifespan | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Architectural asphalt shingles | $5 to $8 | $10,000 to $16,000 | About 30 years | 2026 Roofing Cost Report; InterNACHI |
| Synthetic slate, all brands | $9 to $12 | $18,000 to $24,000 | 10 to 35 years (InterNACHI, simulated slate) | HomeGuide; InterNACHI |
| DaVinci synthetic slate or shake | $15 to $20 | $30,000 to $40,000 | 40 to 50 years; Lifetime Limited Material Warranty | Bill Ragan Roofing; Westlake Royal |
| Natural slate | $10 to $30 | $20,000 to $60,000 | 75+ years for ASTM C406 grade S1 | HomeGuide; ASTM C406 |

What drives DaVinci roofing cost up or down?
Beyond raw square footage, five inputs move a DaVinci quote by thousands of dollars, and each one shows up as a line on the bid.
- Product line. DaVinci’s slate and shake profiles differ in tile count and price: Single-Width Slate needs 6.6 to 8.8 bundles per square and Multi-Width Slate 6.4 to 8.5, per the technical sheet. Multi-width and premium blends cost more than single-width fields.
- Roof pitch and complexity. Below 6:12, Single-Width Slate drops to a 6 in exposure and 8.8 bundles per square, about 33 percent more tile. Valleys, hips, and dormers slow installation, and Bill Ragan Roofing names metal valley flashing and high-heat ice and water shield as major non-tile cost lines.
- Flashing upgrades. Copper for the metal valleys and flashing pushes a project toward the top of the $15 to $20 range, per Bill Ragan Roofing.
- Installer skill. Synthetic slate tiles are installed one at a time, which Bill Ragan Roofing calls slow and labor-intensive, and HomeGuide puts labor at about 50 percent of a composite roof’s cost. DaVinci’s 10-year non-prorated material and labor coverage makes the installer’s registration worth confirming.
- Region and tear-off. HomeGuide adds $1 to $3 per sq ft to remove an existing roof, and local labor rates and permit fees shift the total from there.
To sanity-check any bid, build your own number first. Our roofing cost calculator method shows the squares-times-rate formula, so you can spot a quote more than 20 percent outside the $15 to $20 band and ask why.
Is a DaVinci roof worth the cost?
A DaVinci roof can be worth the premium when a slate or shake look matters, the framing cannot carry 935+ lb per square of natural slate, or hail exposure makes its UL 2218 Class 4 impact rating valuable. On cost per year alone, architectural asphalt stays cheaper on the figures above. Use the thresholds below.
| If | Then | Why (source) |
|---|---|---|
| You want a slate look and the framing was built for asphalt | DaVinci or another synthetic slate | 275 to 367 lb per square vs 935 to 1,405 lb for natural slate (DaVinci sheet; North Country Slate) |
| Roof pitch is 3:12 to 5:12 | Budget for 8.8 bundles per square on Single-Width Slate | About 33% more field tile than 6.6 at 6:12 and steeper (DaVinci sheet) |
| Roof pitch is under 3:12 | A different roof system for that section | Single-Width and Multi-Width slate and shake layouts on the technical sheet start at 3:12 |
| Budget tops out near $12 per sq ft installed | Generic synthetic slate or architectural asphalt | HomeGuide synthetic slate $9 to $12; asphalt $5 to $8 (2026 Roofing Cost Report) |
| You plan to sell within about 10 years | Usually not DaVinci | You pay $15 to $20 per sq ft up front for a roof rated 40 to 50 years (Bill Ragan Roofing) |
| Hail-prone area with an insurer that discounts Class 4 roofs | DaVinci is a candidate | Westlake Royal lists Class 4 impact, Class A fire and 110 mph wind ratings |
| Bid includes copper valleys and flashing | Expect the top of the range | Bill Ragan Roofing |
Insurance can tilt the math in hail-prone areas. Some insurers and states offer premium discounts for roofs listed to UL 2218 Class 4, which Westlake Royal lists for DaVinci, and a discount offsets part of the cost over time. Confirm the discount and the documentation your carrier needs before you sign, since programs differ by insurer and state. Our Class 4 impact-resistant roofing guide covers how those discounts typically work.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a DaVinci roof cost per square?
A DaVinci roof costs about $1,500 to $2,000 per roofing square (100 square feet) installed in 2026, based on the $15 to $20 per square foot that Bill Ragan Roofing and Landmark Roofing quote. HomeGuide lists DaVinci material alone at $400 to $1,200 per square, and retail list prices for field tile run about $1,190 to $1,628 per square depending on profile and pitch.
What is the total cost of a DaVinci roof?
At $15 to $20 per square foot, a 2,500 square foot DaVinci roof costs about $37,500 to $50,000, and Bill Ragan Roofing prices a 3,000 square foot synthetic slate roof with little complexity at $45,000 to $60,000. Pitches under 6:12, many valleys, and copper flashing push toward the top.
Is DaVinci cheaper than natural slate?
Often, but not always. HomeGuide puts natural slate at $10 to $30 per square foot installed versus $15 to $20 for DaVinci, so the ranges overlap low and slate climbs higher. DaVinci Single-Width Slate weighs 275 to 367 lb per square against about 935 to 1,405 lb for natural slate, which can avoid reinforced framing.
How does DaVinci compare to asphalt shingles on cost?
DaVinci costs roughly two to three times more than architectural asphalt up front: $15 to $20 per square foot versus $5 to $8, or $30,000 to $40,000 versus $10,000 to $16,000 on a 2,000 square foot roof. Bill Ragan Roofing rates DaVinci at 40 to 50 years against about 30 years for architectural asphalt on InterNACHI’s chart.
Why is DaVinci roofing so expensive?
Material and labor both run high. Retail list prices for DaVinci field tile work out to about $9 to $16 per square foot before accessories, labor is about 50 percent of a composite roof’s cost per HomeGuide, and Bill Ragan Roofing notes the tiles are installed one at a time with metal valley flashing and high-heat underlayment. Low pitches add up to 33 percent more tile.
