Best Roofers in Logan, UT: 2 Certified Contractors, Scored and Verified

Short answer: As of October 2026, the two highest-scoring roofing contractors in the Logan, UT-ID metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score are Homer Roofing (85.3), High North Roofing (67.7). All of them carry a verifiable manufacturer certification, every rating here was cross-checked against an independent record, and no money changed hands for any placement.

The Roofing Brief scored 2 certified roofing contractors serving the Logan metro on a published, reproducible formula, then researched each of the top two individually to confirm its record. Logan is engineered for snow: state law sets its ground snow load at 43 pounds per square foot, half again Salt Lake City’s, the city requires an ice barrier on every roof, and Cache Valley’s costliest recent storms were a wet October snowfall and a snowmelt flood, not hail. Utah licenses every roofer, and from January 2027 new licences will require experience and an exam. Two certified firms appear in the directory for the Logan metro, both with clean state licences, and both are ranked.

Wind, terrain and the Logan housing stock

Utah licenses roofers under the S280 Roofing classification, or a B100 General Building licence, which also covers roofing. Until the end of 2026 a specialty licence needs a 25-hour course but no exam or experience; from 1 January 2027 the re-enacted Utah Code 58-55-203 requires new applicants to take a further business and law course, meet exam requirements and show two years of paid construction experience. Since March 2026 contractors must carry $1,000,000 per incident and $3,000,000 total in liability cover. The state’s licence lookup shows each firm’s classification, qualifier and any disciplinary flag.

Utah Code 13-50-302 bars a residential contractor from rebating any part of an insurance deductible, and every insurance-paid contract must carry a capitalised notice saying so. Under 13-50-202 you may cancel an insurance-funded repair contract within five business days of the insurer denying all or part of the claim. Logan City says a permit is generally required for any work on a structure apart from paint and flooring, and that any home that is not owner-occupied must be worked on by a state-licensed contractor.

Utah enforces the 2021 International Residential Code with state amendments. Logan’s design values are a 43 psf ground snow load, a 30 inch frost depth and seismic design category D1, and the city states that ice barrier underlayment is required. The metro’s Idaho side, Franklin County, uses Idaho’s contractor registration, which requires insurance but no exam.

Across 2016 to 2025 Cache County and Franklin County, Idaho logged 12 hail reports, none of two inches, 41 thunderstorm wind reports and no tornadoes, with $82,600 of recorded damage. The weather that matters is filed by zone: 41 heavy snow and 24 winter storm events across the Cache Valley zones, and gusts up to 81 mph on Crow Mountain. Logan is a university town: 62.8 percent of the city’s occupied homes are rented, and its median home was built in 1984.

1. Homer Roofing: TRB Score 85.3

Homer Roofing is based in Logan, UT, in business since 2003, led by Chris Brown, owner and licence qualifier, BBB accredited since 1 September 2021, A+ rating, one complaint closed in three years, and holds Master Elite standing on the GAF certification registry.

  • Prestige Contracting LLC, doing business as Homer Roofing, holds contractor licence 10740492-5501, active since March 2018 and current to November 2027, with a B100 General Building classification qualified by Christopher Curtis Brown and no disciplinary actions.. Utah DOPL licence lookup
  • The earlier Homer Roofing licence, 5330060-5501, issued in River Heights in July 2003 and expired in 2019, carries an agency or disciplinary action flag under number 44833.. Utah DOPL licence lookup
  • Accredited since September 2021 with an A+ rating; business started 2 June 2003; one complaint closed in three years; service area Cache, Box Elder, Rich and Weber counties and southern Idaho.. BBB business profile

What they actually do. Residential roof replacement and repair in asphalt, metal, cedar shake and flat systems; insurance claim help; solar detach and reset.

Why it ranks here. The Cache Valley’s established roofer: three sources agree it dates from 2003, and it has 279 GAF reviews averaging 4.9 at the Master Elite tier. The current owner, Chris Brown, grew up in the valley, worked for the firm and bought it in 2018, when the trading licence moved to his company, Prestige Contracting; that licence is active with no disciplinary actions, under a general building classification that covers roofing. The older licence, held by the previous owner until 2019, carries a state agency or disciplinary flag whose date and nature we could not see, and which may be a citation rather than an order. It also runs a Woods Cross office for the Wasatch Front.

Best fit for: Logan and Cache Valley homeowners who want the longest-established local roofer, with experience in metal, shake and flat roofs as well as shingles.

What we would want clarified. Its current licence is clean, but the pre-2018 licence carries an unexplained state action flag; ask about it. BBB shows one complaint closed in three years. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (435) 787-0910, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.

2. High North Roofing: TRB Score 67.7

High North Roofing is based in Brigham City, UT, in business since 2022, led by Genri Brito Artiaga and Florencio Brito Sotelo, members, Not accredited; A+ rating; no complaints closed in three years, and holds Certified standing on the GAF certification registry.

What they actually do. Residential roof replacement and repair, asphalt and metal roofing including metal shingles, flat and commercial roofing, and storm and emergency repair.

Why it ranks here. A young Box Elder County roofer with a perfect 5.0 across 72 GAF reviews. Unlike the other ranked firm, it holds the roofing-specific S280 classification, held since it was licensed in 2022, with a general building classification added in 2024; both are active and clean. It is based in Brigham City, about 20 miles from Logan over the Wellsville Mountains and outside the metro’s counties, but its own service page lists Cache County and Logan.

Best fit for: Homeowners who want a roofing-specific licence holder with a strong early review record, especially for a metal roof.

What we would want clarified. Founded in 2022, not BBB accredited, and based outside Cache Valley; confirm it will take your job and how it handles winter call-outs from Brigham City. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

Other roofers serving Logan

Two certified firms are ranked here. These three hold an active Utah contractor licence with no disciplinary actions and a Cache Valley base or branch. They are not scored and we are not recommending them. One Logan-area firm was left out because its state licence carries a disciplinary flag.

The 41 wind reports that shape a Logan roof

Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 2 counties of the Logan, UT-ID statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 12 hail reports, 41 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 0 tornadoes. The database’s property-damage fields are left blank for most of these reports, so it carries no usable loss total for this metro and we do not quote one.

The biggest hail to fall on Logan in a decade

Date Stone size Reported near County
22 August 2018 1.5 in Clifton Franklin
10 September 2019 1.25 in North Logan Cache
10 September 2019 1.0 in North Logan Cache
10 September 2019 1.0 in Smithfield Cache
10 September 2019 1.0 in Smithfield Cache
16 May 2021 1.0 in River Hgts Cache

The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 22 August 2018 near Clifton, measured at 1.5 inches. That is ping-pong-ball sized, enough to bruise asphalt shingles and shorten a roof’s life without necessarily looking dramatic from the ground.

Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 67 knots, about 77 mph, near Smithfield on 2 March 2024. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.

What the National Weather Service wrote about it

The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 2 March 2024 event near Smithfield, reproduced verbatim:

The Crow Mountain mesonet station recorded a wind gust of 77 mph as a result of a convective section of a cold frontal boundary advancing through the area.

That is the kind of damage a roof in this metro has to be specified against, described by the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.

When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in September (14), August (14), July (9). The worst years on record were 2024 (12), 2023 (10), 2019 (8). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Logan, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.

Source: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, Storm Events Database, county-level detail files 2016 to 2025, filtered to the counties of this statistical area by The Roofing Brief. Damage figures are as reported to the NWS and undercount insured losses.

What to do with this. Hail is not the governing risk in Logan. Weight your decision toward wind rating, ventilation and flashing detail rather than paying extra for impact-rated shingles.

Built for snow

Utah writes local snow loads into statute. Utah Code 15A-3-202 replaces the International Residential Code’s snow table with a Utah one that sets 43 pounds per square foot at Logan, at 4,531 feet, against 28 in Salt Lake City, 31 in Provo and 37 in Ogden. Places not on the list use the Utah Snow Load Study, written by engineering faculty at Utah State University, which is in Logan.

The climate explains the number. NOAA’s normals for the Utah State University station give 61.5 inches of snow a year, 15.8 of them in December, with January lows averaging 17.6 F: the freeze-and-thaw conditions under which ice dams build at the eaves. Logan City’s design page says plainly that ice barrier underlayment is required under the 2021 code. In Grand Junction, by contrast, the county waives it on the valley floor.

The costliest recent storm in the Cache Valley record was snow, not hail. On 11 October 2021 storm totals reached 12 inches in Providence and 11 in Logan, and NWS wrote that heavy wet snow brought down numerous fully leafed trees and limbs, caused property damage and knocked out power to thousands; NOAA records $250,000 of damage. Snowmelt is the other hazard: in February 2017 rain on snow flooded Cache County, with $4.0 million of damage recorded, more than $2.5 million of it to roads, and dozens of basements flooded in Wellsville, Hyrum and Mendon.

Squalls add wind to the load. On 9 and 10 January 2024 gusts reached 54 mph at Clarkston and 52 mph at the Logan airport, with snow falling at two inches an hour in Wellsville. Hail, by comparison, barely registers: 12 reports in ten years across both counties, none of two inches.

So the questions for a Logan roofer are about winter: how far up the roof the ice barrier will run, how the attic will be ventilated to keep the deck cold, and whether the decking and framing on an older house will carry a heavy snow year. Because so many Logan homes are rentals, landlords should note the city’s rule that non-owner-occupied homes must be worked on by a state-licensed contractor, and check the licence on the state lookup.

Three things to confirm before work starts in Logan

Licensing is required in UT. Utah requires a roofing contractor licence from the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing under the S280 Roofing classification, which covers asphalt, pitch, tar, felt, shakes, shingles, tile, slate and membrane systems.

Until the end of 2026 an S280 requires a 25-hour pre-licence course but no division exam and no work experience. That changes on 1 January 2027, when the re-enacted Utah Code 58-55-203 requires every new contractor applicant to complete the 25-hour course and a five-hour business and law course, meet examination requirements set by rule, and show two years of full-time paid construction experience. Utah Admin. Code R156-55a-302d now requires general liability insurance of at least $1,000,000 per incident and $2,000,000 in total (up from $100,000 and $300,000; a spring 2026 version briefly set a $3,000,000 total before the Construction Services Commission amended it in April 2026), plus workers compensation coverage or a formal waiver; the statute also requires registration with the state’s corporations, unemployment insurance and tax agencies. An S280 holder may not subcontract work outside the roofing scope except electrical work to a licensed E200 or E201 contractor. Utah Code 13-50-302 bars a residential contractor from rebating any part of an insurance deductible.

Check here: Utah DOPL licence verification. Check the contractor licence on the state’s licence lookup, and confirm it carries the S280 Roofing classification or a general building classification that covers roofing. Utah’s State Construction Registry is a lien-notice database, not a contractor credential.

Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.

  1. Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
  2. Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
  3. Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
  4. Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.

The Logan market behind this ranking

2 certified roofing contractors serve the principal cities of the Logan, UT-ID statistical area, of which 0 hold the top President’s Club tier. The pool carries 351 customer reviews between them at a mean rating of 4.95. The statistical area had a 2024 population of 161,125, a change of 9.35% against the 2020 census base, per the U.S. Census Bureau Vintage 2024 estimates.

How these Logan rankings were produced

Every contractor in the Logan, UT-ID pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 2 certified contractors, of whom 0 hold President’s Club standing and 1 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 4.95. The top two were then researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. Good and bad findings are published together, and no contractor paid for a place here.

The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page. No. The Roofing Brief takes no placement fees, no lead fees and no affiliate commission from any roofing contractor. Ranking comes entirely from the published formula applied to public registry data, followed by an individual research pass on the top two.

What was the worst hailstorm in Logan in the last ten years?

The largest hailstone logged by the National Weather Service in the Logan, UT-ID statistical area between 2016 and 2025 measured 1.5 inches, reported near Clifton on 22 August 2018. That is ping-pong-ball sized, enough to bruise asphalt shingles and shorten a roof’s life without necessarily looking dramatic from the ground. Across the decade the metro recorded 12 hail reports. When is the worst time of year for roof damage in Logan?

Severe-weather reports in the Logan, UT-ID statistical area cluster in September, August, July, on the NOAA record for 2016 to 2025. Scheduling discretionary work away from that window tends to get you a better crew and a faster start, because nobody is juggling emergency callouts.

Do roofers need a licence in UT?

What should I check before hiring a roofer in Logan?

Check the contractor licence on the state’s licence lookup, and confirm it carries the S280 Roofing classification or a general building classification that covers roofing. Utah’s State Construction Registry is a lien-notice database, not a contractor credential.

Built for snow?

Utah writes local snow loads into statute. Utah Code 15A-3-202 replaces the International Residential Code’s snow table with a Utah one that sets 43 pounds per square foot at Logan, at 4,531 feet, against 28 in Salt Lake City, 31 in Provo and 37 in Ogden. Places not on the list use the Utah Snow Load Study, written by engineering faculty at Utah State University, which is in Logan.

Is Logan a hard market to find a good roofer in?

Logan is engineered for snow: state law sets its ground snow load at 43 pounds per square foot, half again Salt Lake City’s, the city requires an ice barrier on every roof, and Cache Valley’s costliest recent storms were a wet October snowfall and a snowmelt flood, not hail. Utah licenses every roofer, and from January 2027 new licences will require experience and an exam. Two certified firms appear in the directory for the Logan metro, both with clean state licences, and both are ranked.

Is wind or hail the bigger risk to a roof in Logan?

Wind, by a wide margin. The Logan, UT-ID statistical area logged 41 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports against 11 hail reports of an inch or more between 2016 and 2025. Wind damage shows up at the rake, ridge and edge rather than across the field of the roof, so the fastening schedule and edge detail matter more here than the impact rating of the shingle.
