Short answer: As of October 2026, the four highest-scoring roofing contractors in the Jonesboro, AR metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score are Roof Raiders (81.0), Summit Roofing and Restoration (79.2), Charles Sharp Roofing & Carpentry (42.8), Jonesboro Roofing Co. (38.1). Every one holds a manufacturer certification that can be verified independently, every rating below has been corroborated against at least one source outside the certification registry, and no company paid to appear here.
The Roofing Brief scored 4 certified roofing contractors serving the Jonesboro metro on a published, reproducible formula, then researched each of the top four individually to confirm its record. One tornado defines Jonesboro’s storm record: the March 2020 EF3 that hit the Mall at Turtle Creek and the airport carries $300 million of the decade’s $318 million in recorded damage, and preliminary assessments found more than half the damaged homes uninsured, with no FEMA household aid in the declaration that followed. Hail is serious too, up to 4 inches at Lake City in 2022. Arkansas requires a roofing registration and Jonesboro fines roofs left under a tarp. Four certified firms appear in the directory for the area, and all four are ranked.
Quick picks for Jonesboro:
- Roof Raiders: best overall (TRB Score 81.0). Verified services: roof replacement, roof repair, storm damage work, commercial roofing.

Hail, codes and what they cost a Jonesboro homeowner
Arkansas has required a roofing registration from the Residential Contractors Committee since July 2021, backed by a $15,000 surety bond and workers’ compensation if the roofer has employees; there is no dollar threshold and the fee is $20 a year. A state contractor licence whose classification covers roofing, including the Building classification, also satisfies the law. Working without either is a misdemeanour each day, with civil penalties of $100 to $400 a day, and an unregistered roofer cannot sue you to collect.
Under A.C.A. 4-88-901 to 905 a roofer must give you a boldface notice and a cancellation form before signing an insurance-funded roof contract, and you may cancel within three business days after your insurer denies all or part of the claim in writing; no work may start until that right expires. Arkansas has no statute barring a roofer from paying or rebating your deductible; a 2025 bill to add one was withdrawn.
A residential reroof in Jonesboro needs a $100 permit, and the city builds to the 2021 Arkansas residential and existing building codes. Since a December 2019 ordinance, a storm-damaged roof under a tarp must be repaired and the tarp removed within six months, with fines from $100 a day, though the building official can extend the deadline for a permit, an insurance investigation or hardship.
Across 2016 to 2025 Craighead and Poinsett counties logged 99 hail reports, 77 of an inch or larger, 141 thunderstorm wind reports and 32 tornado records. Three EF3s struck in five years: Jonesboro in March 2020, Monette in December 2021, when a nursing home roof partly collapsed, and Lake City and Monette again in April 2025. Jonesboro’s housing is young for the region, with 37.6 percent of homes built since 2000, and 45.7 percent of the city’s homes are rented.

- Roof Raiders LLC held a commercial licence with the roofing classification, restricted to projects under $750,000, and a residential roofing register entry at its Brookland address on the board’s April 2025 roster; renewal after their 2026 expiry dates could not be checked because the register was offline.. - Accredited since April 2020 with an A+ rating; business started June 2019; owner Jordan Kohler; no complaints.. BBB business profile
- Serves Jonesboro, all of north-east Arkansas and south-east Missouri, with a showroom in Brookland and a team of about 15.. Company website
What they actually do. Residential replacement and repair, insurance claim help, temporary storm repairs, commercial roofing and roof washing.
Services we could verify: roof replacement, roof repair, storm damage work, commercial roofing.
Why it ranks here. The top-scoring firm, a Master Elite roofer in Brookland about eight miles north-east of Jonesboro, with 373 GAF reviews averaging 4.9, BBB accreditation since 2020 and no complaints. It held both a commercial roofing licence and a residential roofing registration on the state roster. BBB dates the business to 2019.
Best fit for: Jonesboro and Brookland homeowners who want the most-reviewed local roofer with a clean record.
What we would want clarified. We could confirm its Arkansas credentials only from the April 2025 roster; ask for the current registration. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.
Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (870) 919-6085, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.
2. Summit Roofing and Restoration: best for metal and standing seam (TRB Score 79.2)
Summit Roofing and Restoration is based in Jonesboro, AR, led by Douglas Greenhaw, president, BBB jonesboro branch not accredited, A rating; Atoka, Tennessee headquarters accredited since 2018, A rating, two complaints in three years, and holds Master Elite standing on the GAF certification registry.

- Listed as an Owens Corning Preferred Contractor at its Southwest Dr office in Jonesboro.. Owens Corning contractor locator
What they actually do. Residential replacement and repair, storm and insurance claims, metal and standing seam roofs, commercial flat roofs and gutters.
Services we could verify: roof replacement, roof repair, storm damage work, metal roofing, commercial roofing, flat and low-slope roofing, gutters.
Why it ranks here. A West Tennessee roofer with a staffed Jonesboro branch, holding GAF Master Elite status with a perfect 5.0 across 107 reviews and an Owens Corning Preferred listing. Its Arkansas commercial roofing licence covers house reroofs. The company says it was founded in 2007 while BBB dates it to 2017, so we give no year.
Best fit for: Jonesboro homeowners who want a Master Elite firm with metal and standing seam experience.
What we would want clarified. Its Jonesboro page advertises a BBB A+ rating, but both BBB profiles rate it A; BBB has tracked the branch only since 2024, and one of two September 2026 complaints came from a Jonesboro customer. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

3. Charles Sharp Roofing & Carpentry: best for carpentry repairs with the roof (TRB Score 42.8)

- Not accredited, A+; files under a Jonesboro street address; business started 1975 according to BBB; owner Keith Sharp; no complaints.. BBB business profile
What they actually do. Residential roofing, siding, soffit, fascia, gutters and carpentry.
Services we could verify: siding, gutters.
Why it ranks here. A family sole proprietorship that BBB dates to 1975, with 52 GAF reviews averaging 4.3 and no BBB complaints. BBB files it in Jonesboro while the state roster and GAF place it in Paragould, about 19 miles north-east. It held both a roofing registration and a carpentry licence, useful where rotten fascia or decking needs work with the roof.
Best fit for: Homeowners who want a small family firm that can handle carpentry repairs alongside the roof.
What we would want clarified. It has no website, so no published service area or warranty terms, its rating is the second lowest here, and its founding year rests on BBB alone. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.
Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (870) 935-4278, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.
4. Jonesboro Roofing Co.: longest local track record (TRB Score 38.1)
Jonesboro Roofing Co. is based in Jonesboro, AR, in business since 1978, led by Scott Moore, president, BBB accredited since 9 January 2004, A+ rating, no complaints, and holds Certified standing on the GAF certification registry.

- Family owned and serving clients since 1977; residential and commercial roofing with a list of Jonesboro residential jobs and a metal fabrication division.. Company website
What they actually do. Residential reroofing, commercial low-slope roofing, metal roofing and sheet metal fabrication.
Services we could verify: roof replacement, commercial roofing, flat and low-slope roofing, metal roofing.
Why it ranks here. The oldest firm in the pool, in business since the late 1970s and BBB accredited since 2004 with no complaints, holding an Unlimited state licence in the Building classification. Much of its work is commercial, but it lists recent residential jobs in Jonesboro. The April 2025 roster named a vice president who shares a name with the owner of another Jonesboro roofer; we did not establish whether they are the same person.
Best fit for: Homeowners who value a long track record, or need metal roofing or custom sheet metal.
What we would want clarified. Its 3.7 GAF rating from 30 reviews is the lowest in the pool, and its state licence was due for renewal in November 2025, which we could not confirm. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

Roof replacement and repair in Jonesboro, AR
Short answer: Roof Raiders of Brookland, a Master Elite firm with 373 reviews averaging 4.9, is the strongest overall pick for Jonesboro. Summit Roofing and Restoration suits metal and standing seam roofs, Charles Sharp Roofing & Carpentry handles carpentry alongside the roof, and Jonesboro Roofing Co. offers the longest track record. The rule that matters most: Arkansas requires a roofing registration, or a contractor licence covering roofing, and an unregistered roofer cannot sue you to collect.
Tornadoes and hail dominate Jonesboro’s storm record. On 28 March 2020 an EF3 with 150 mph peak winds crossed the Mall at Turtle Creek and the airport; NOAA attaches $300 million of the decade’s $318 million in recorded damage to it. Three EF3s struck in five years, including Monette in December 2021 and Lake City and Monette in April 2025. Hail reached 4 inches at Lake City on 15 April 2022, and across 2016 to 2025 Craighead and Poinsett counties logged 99 hail reports, 77 of an inch or larger, 141 thunderstorm wind reports and 32 tornado records. Preliminary assessments after 2020 found about 54 percent of assessed homes uninsured.
A residential reroof in Jonesboro needs a $100 permit, and the city builds to the 2021 Arkansas residential and existing building codes. Arkansas has no statewide 25 percent roof rule: under 2021 IRC R908.3 a roof replacement means tear-off to the deck, and R908.3.1.1 bars a recover over a water-soaked or deteriorated roof, over slate, clay, cement or asbestos-cement tile, or over two or more layers. Since a December 2019 ordinance, a storm-damaged roof under a tarp must be repaired and the tarp removed within six months, with fines from $100 a day, though the building official can extend the deadline for a permit, an insurance investigation or hardship.
Arkansas has required a roofing registration since July 2021, backed by a $15,000 surety bond and workers’ compensation if the roofer has employees; a state contractor licence whose classification covers roofing, including Building, also satisfies the law. Under A.C.A. 4-88-901 to 905 a roofer must give you a boldface notice and a cancellation form before you sign an insurance-funded roof contract, and you may cancel within three business days after your insurer denies all or part of the claim in writing; no work may start until that right expires. Arkansas has no statute barring a roofer from paying or rebating your deductible.
Roof Raiders handles residential replacement and repair, temporary storm repairs and commercial roofing, and held both a commercial roofing licence and a residential roofing registration on the April 2025 roster; ask for the current registration. Summit Roofing and Restoration, a West Tennessee roofer with a Jonesboro branch, covers replacement, repair, metal and standing seam and commercial flat roofs, though both BBB profiles rate it A. Charles Sharp Roofing & Carpentry in Paragould suits jobs where rotten fascia or decking needs carpentry. Jonesboro Roofing Co., in business since the late 1970s, does reroofing, low-slope, metal roofing and sheet metal, but its 3.7 rating is the lowest in the pool.

The 77 inch-plus hail reports behind a Jonesboro roof
Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 2 counties of the Jonesboro, AR statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 99 hail reports, 141 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 32 tornadoes. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $318.5 million; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

The biggest hail to fall on Jonesboro in a decade
| Date | Stone size | Reported near | County |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 April 2022 | 4.0 in | Lake City | Craighead |
| 15 April 2022 | 3.25 in | Bono | Craighead |
| 15 April 2022 | 2.75 in | Caraway | Craighead |
| 15 April 2022 | 2.75 in | Brookland | Craighead |
| 30 March 2025 | 2.5 in | Marked Tree | Poinsett |
| 2 April 2025 | 2.0 in | Whitehall | Poinsett |
The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 15 April 2022 near Lake City, measured at 4.0 inches. That is grapefruit sized. Stones that big destroy asphalt shingles outright, dent metal, crack tile and routinely total roofs across whole neighbourhoods.
Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 96 knots, about 110 mph, near Richer on 2 April 2025. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.
Tornadoes. 32 tornadoes touched down in these counties over the decade, the strongest rated EF3 near Jonesboro on 28 March 2020.
What the National Weather Service wrote about it
The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 2 April 2025 event near Richer, reproduced verbatim:
A large tree sustained damage south of Cash, on the west side of the Lake City tornado path. Several power poles were broken and downed along and near CR 161.
A roof in this metro is built against events like that one, as recorded by the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.
When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in April (70), May (56), March (46). The worst years on record were 2025 (44), 2017 (35), 2023 (34). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Jonesboro, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.
Source: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, Storm Events Database, county-level detail files 2016 to 2025, filtered to the counties of this statistical area by The Roofing Brief. Damage figures are as reported to the NWS and undercount insured losses.
What to do with this. Jonesboro sees enough damaging hail that a Class 4 impact-rated shingle is worth pricing, though not automatically worth buying. Get both quotes and weigh the premium against any insurance discount.
28 March 2020: one tornado, most of the damage, and few insured homes
Late on 28 March 2020 a tornado formed just north of I-555 west of Caraway Road. It did EF2 damage near Caraway Road and Race Street and again at the Mall at Turtle Creek, reached its peak crossing Jonesboro’s airport, where several large industrial buildings were severely damaged, and did EF2 to isolated EF3 damage to homes north-east of the airport before ending past Brookland. Peak winds were 150 mph, the path 12.5 miles long and 600 yards wide, and 22 people were hurt; nobody died.
NOAA attaches $300 million of damage to that single row, 94 percent of all the hail, wind and tornado damage recorded in the two counties across the decade. It is a round Weather Service estimate with no published breakdown, so treat it as an order of magnitude rather than a tally.
The human picture came from preliminary damage assessments that Arkansas’s congressional delegation cited in support of a disaster declaration: 163 homes in Jonesboro destroyed or with major damage, 672 damaged homes in Craighead County, an estimated 54 percent of assessed homes uninsured and about a fifth of those owners on low incomes. The airport alone counted nearly $17 million of damage, $7 million of it uninsured. FEMA’s declaration in May 2020 covered public assistance and hazard mitigation but no individual household assistance; the December 2021 tornado declaration did include it.
Four months before the storm, Jonesboro had adopted a rule that a roof under a tarp must be repaired within six months of the damage. For an uninsured owner that can mean a hard deadline with no claim money behind it, so ask the building official early for an extension if insurance or funding is unresolved.
For insured owners the protection is the Arkansas cancellation right: three business days after a written claim denial, and no work before then. Whoever you hire, ask for its Arkansas roofing registration or a contractor licence with the roofing or Building classification, and make sure the $100 city permit is pulled.

The checks worth making in Jonesboro
Licensing is required in AR. Since 1 July 2021 Arkansas has required a roofing contractor registration certificate from the Residential Contractors Committee, under A.C.A. 17-25-603; roofing without one is a Class A misdemeanour, each day a separate offence. An unregistered roofer cannot sue a homeowner to enforce the contract.
The application must attach a surety bond of at least $15,000 and proof of workers’ compensation if the roofer has employees, under A.C.A. 17-25-604. There is no examination and no dollar threshold; the certificate is renewed annually for a $20 fee, under a statutory cap of $100. Besides the misdemeanour, the Committee can impose a civil penalty of $100 to $400 for each day of unregistered work. A contractor licensed by the Contractors Licensing Board with a classification covering roofing, including the Building classification, is exempt, and so is a licensed home improvement or residential building contractor whose roofing is no more than half the project and who does not sell roofing door to door. Under A.C.A. 4-88-901 to 905 a homeowner may cancel an insurance-funded roof contract within three business days after the insurer denies all or part of the claim in writing, and the roofer may not start work until that right expires. Arkansas has no statute stopping a roofer from offering to pay your deductible; a 2025 bill to ban it was withdrawn.
Check here: Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board lookup. Ask which credential the contractor holds and check it on the Board’s register: either the roofing registration or a Contractors Licensing Board licence whose classification covers roofing, such as Building, is lawful on a roof-only job. A builder’s or remodeller’s licence covers roofing only within the 50 percent and no door-to-door limits.
Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.
- Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
- Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
- Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
- Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.
The Jonesboro market behind this ranking
4 certified roofing contractors serve the principal cities of the Jonesboro, AR statistical area, of which 0 hold the top President’s Club tier. The pool carries 562 customer reviews between them at a mean rating of 4.475. The statistical area had a 2024 population of 138,152, a change of 2.94% against the 2020 census base, per the U.S. Census Bureau Vintage 2024 estimates.

How these Jonesboro rankings were produced
Every contractor in the Jonesboro, AR pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 4 certified contractors, of whom 0 hold President’s Club standing and 2 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 4.475. The top four were then researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. Where that research turned up something awkward it is on the page, and no placement was paid for.
The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page. Do roofers need a licence in AR?
What should I check before hiring a roofer in Jonesboro?
Ask which credential the contractor holds and check it on the Board’s register: either the roofing registration or a Contractors Licensing Board licence whose classification covers roofing, such as Building, is lawful on a roof-only job. A builder’s or remodeller’s licence covers roofing only within the 50 percent and no door-to-door limits.

Hail is serious too, up to 4 inches at Lake City in 2022. Arkansas requires a roofing registration and Jonesboro fines roofs left under a tarp.
