Best Roofers in Mansfield, OH: 3 Certified Contractors, Scored and Verified

The three best roofers in Mansfield, OH, ranked on a published formula and verified individually against BBB, licence and manufacturer records. No paid placement.

Best Roofers in Mansfield, OH: 3 Certified Contractors, Scored and Verified

Short answer: As of October 2026, the three highest-scoring roofing contractors in the Mansfield, OH metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score are Elevated Roofing Solutions (68.6), Dyer Roofing & Siding (68.2), DM Roofing Siding & Windows (56.2). All of them carry a verifiable manufacturer certification, every rating here was cross-checked against an independent record, and no money changed hands for any placement.

The Roofing Brief scored 3 certified roofing contractors serving the Mansfield metro on a published, reproducible formula, then researched each of the top three individually to confirm its record. Three EF2 tornadoes have crossed Richland County since 2017, and tornadoes account for two-thirds of its recorded storm damage, from the 2019 Shelby twister that threw a car 100 feet to the 2024 Plymouth EF2. Yet neither Mansfield nor the county requires a permit to reshingle, so most storm reroofs go uninspected. Ohio licenses no roofers, but Mansfield makes every roofer register and every door-knocker carry a licence. Eight certified firms appear in the directory; five are excluded, mostly for publishing no Richland County coverage, and three are ranked.

Quick picks for Mansfield:

  • Elevated Roofing Solutions: best overall (TRB Score 68.6). Verified services: metal roofing, storm damage work, siding, gutters, flat and low-slope roofing, commercial roofing.
  • Dyer Roofing & Siding: best long clean record (TRB Score 68.2). Verified services: metal roofing, siding, gutters.
  • DM Roofing Siding & Windows: best for stone-coated steel (TRB Score 56.2). Verified services: metal roofing, siding, windows.

The conditions a Mansfield roof has to be specified for

Ohio has no state roofing licence. Mansfield fills part of the gap with its own mandatory contractor registration: every roofer working inside the city must register with the Bureau of Building and Codes each year, with liability cover of at least $300,000 per occurrence, Ohio workers’ compensation and a city income tax account, for $100. Property owners are also barred from letting an unregistered contractor work. The city’s published list is from February 2024, so call the bureau to confirm.

Door-to-door roofing canvassers need a Mansfield commercial sales licence and a criminal record check, and a business that sends them out needs a separate promoter licence. Ohio has no roofing-specific insurance statute. A door-to-door sale can be cancelled until midnight on the third business day, and only a certified public adjuster may be paid to adjust your claim.

Neither the City of Mansfield nor the Richland County Building Department requires a permit to reshingle; a permit is needed only when trusses, rafters or sheathing are replaced. Mansfield’s design table nonetheless requires ice barrier underlayment and assumes a 115 mph design wind speed and a 20 psf ground snow load, so the standard applies even without an inspector.

Across 2016 to 2025 Richland County logged 82 thunderstorm wind reports, 21 hail reports none reaching 2 inches, and four tornadoes, three of them EF2, with $2.1 million of recorded damage. Forecast zones add seven high wind and seven winter storm events, including a 66 mph gust at Mansfield’s airport in December 2019. Mansfield averages 48 inches of snow a year; its median home dates from 1959, and half its homes are rented.

  • Service pages for Mansfield, Ashland, Shelby, Lexington, Galion and other towns; shingle and metal roofing, storm restoration and a 10-year workmanship warranty.. Company website

What they actually do. Residential shingle and metal roofing, storm restoration, siding, gutters and light commercial flat roofing.

Services we could verify: metal roofing, storm damage work, siding, gutters, flat and low-slope roofing, commercial roofing.

Why it ranks here. The only ranked firm based in Mansfield, roofing-first, with 105 GAF reviews averaging 4.9. It is very young, formed in March 2024, which is why BBB rates it A rather than A+. Its site and BBB both cover Richland County.

Best fit for: Mansfield homeowners after a storm claim who want a local roofing specialist.

What we would want clarified. It is barely two years old, holds GAF’s entry Certified tier and lists out-of-area phone numbers; confirm its city registration, since the published list predates the company. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (614) 546-9553, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.

2. Dyer Roofing & Siding: best long clean record (TRB Score 68.2)

Dyer Roofing & Siding is based in Marion, OH, led by Keith Dyer, owner, BBB accredited since 16 October 2012, A+ rating, no complaints, and holds Master Elite standing on the GAF certification registry.

  • Serves central and northern Ohio with roofing, metal roofing, vinyl siding, seamless gutters and insurance restoration.. Company website

What they actually do. Shingle and metal roofing, vinyl siding, seamless gutters and insurance restoration.

Services we could verify: metal roofing, siding, gutters.

Why it ranks here. A Marion roofing and siding firm about 33 miles south-west, at Master Elite with 155 GAF reviews averaging 4.7, the deepest base here, and BBB accreditation since 2012 without a complaint. Its BBB service area names Richland County. Its founding dates conflict between GAF, BBB and the state.

Best fit for: Homeowners wanting a Master Elite firm with a long clean record, including metal roofs.

What we would want clarified. It is based in Marion County, and it does not appear on Mansfield’s published registered contractor list, so ask for its city registration before work inside the city. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (740) 387-3937, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.

3. DM Roofing Siding & Windows: best for stone-coated steel (TRB Score 56.2)

DM Roofing Siding & Windows is based in Ashland, OH, led by Dennis Marlatt Jr., owner, BBB accredited since 8 July 2021, A+ rating, no complaints, and holds Certified standing on the GAF certification registry.

  • Accredited since July 2021 with an A+ rating; formed 2020; owner Dennis J. Marlatt Jr.; Akron headquarters and an Ashland branch; service area includes all Mansfield ZIP codes; no complaints.. BBB business profile
  • Asphalt, metal and stone-coated steel roofing, siding and windows, plus custom homes, pole barns and remodelling.. Company website

What they actually do. Asphalt, metal and stone-coated steel roofing, siding and windows, plus custom homes and remodelling.

Services we could verify: metal roofing, siding, windows.

Why it ranks here. An Akron firm with an Ashland branch about 13 miles from Mansfield, holding 35 GAF reviews averaging 4.7 and a clean BBB file since 2021. Its BBB service area lists every Mansfield ZIP code. It offers stone-coated steel, unusual in this market.

Best fit for: Homeowners in the Ashland direction considering stone-coated steel or metal roofing.

What we would want clarified. Its scope is broad, from custom homes to basements, and a recent GAF review complains about a subcontracted deck crew; confirm who will install your roof. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (330) 705-7416, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.

Roof replacement and repair in Mansfield, OH

Short answer: In Mansfield, start with Elevated Roofing Solutions, the only ranked firm based in the city and a roofing specialist for storm restoration; Dyer Roofing & Siding of Marion, a Master Elite firm with a clean record since 2012; or DM Roofing Siding & Windows, for stone-coated steel or metal. The rule that matters most: Ohio licenses no roofers, but every roofer working inside Mansfield must register with the city’s Bureau of Building and Codes each year.

Tornadoes, more than hail, account for most of Richland County’s recorded storm damage. Of the $2.15 million of hail, wind and tornado damage NOAA recorded from 2016 to 2025, about 68 percent came from four tornadoes, three of them EF2. The 4 September 2017 Springfield Township EF2 tore half the roof off a house, and the 14 March 2024 Plymouth EF2 brought 120 mph winds and extensive damage to homes. Hail is frequent but modest: 21 reports in ten years, none reaching 2 inches, the largest ping-pong-ball size in Shelby. The county also logged 82 thunderstorm wind reports, and in April 2023 a 75 mph gust blew the roof off the Madison Township hall.

Neither the City of Mansfield nor the Richland County Building Department requires a permit to reshingle; a permit is needed only when trusses, rafters or sheathing are replaced, so most storm reroofs go uninspected. The standard still applies: Mansfield’s design table requires ice barrier underlayment and assumes a 115 mph design wind speed and a 20 psf ground snow load. Under the Residential Code of Ohio, Section 908 requires a roof replacement to remove existing layers down to the deck, and a recover is allowed only if the old roof is not water soaked or deteriorated, is not slate, clay, cement or asbestos-cement tile, and does not already have two or more layers.

Ohio has no state roofing licence and no roofing-specific insurance statute. Mansfield requires every roofer to register annually, with liability cover of at least $300,000 per occurrence, Ohio workers’ compensation and a city income tax account, for $100, and property owners are barred from letting an unregistered contractor work. Door-to-door canvassers need a Mansfield commercial sales licence and a criminal record check. A door-to-door sale can be cancelled until midnight on the third business day, and only a certified public adjuster may be paid to adjust your claim. On a replacement cost policy, Ohio Adm. Code 3901-1-54(I)(1)(b) requires the insurer to replace as much of a non-matching item as needed for a reasonably comparable appearance.

Elevated Roofing Solutions, formed in March 2024, does residential shingle and metal roofing, storm restoration, siding, gutters and light commercial flat roofing, and suits Mansfield homeowners after a storm. Dyer Roofing & Siding, about 33 miles south-west in Marion, has the deepest review base here and does shingle and metal roofing, vinyl siding and seamless gutters, but does not appear on Mansfield’s published registered contractor list. DM Roofing Siding & Windows, with an Ashland branch about 13 miles away, offers asphalt, metal and stone-coated steel; confirm who will install your roof. Whoever you hire, write the fastening and ice barrier details into the contract.

The 82 wind reports that shape a Mansfield roof

Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 1 county of the Mansfield, OH statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 21 hail reports, 82 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 4 tornadoes. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $2.1 million; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

The biggest hail to fall on Mansfield in a decade

Date Stone size Reported near County
1 June 2022 1.5 in Shelby Richland
2 May 2025 1.25 in Butler Richland
2 April 2025 1.0 in Lexington Richland
2 April 2025 1.0 in Lexington Richland
12 August 2023 1.0 in Hanley Vlg Richland
14 April 2019 1.0 in Shiloh Richland

The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 1 June 2022 near Shelby, measured at 1.5 inches. That is ping-pong-ball sized, enough to bruise asphalt shingles and shorten a roof’s life without necessarily looking dramatic from the ground.

Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 65 knots, about 75 mph, near Lincoln Hgts on 1 April 2023. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.

Tornadoes. 4 tornadoes touched down in these counties over the decade, the strongest rated EF2 near Crestline on 4 September 2017.

What the National Weather Service wrote about it

The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 1 April 2023 event near Lincoln Hgts, reproduced verbatim:

Trees and power poles downed, roof blown off township hall, half of roof blown off separate building, and damage to porches of homes in Madison Township (i.e. about three-miles ENE of Mansfield).

That is the kind of damage a roof in this metro has to be specified against, described by the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.

When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in June (29), May (21), July (17). The worst years on record were 2017 (20), 2019 (18), 2022 (15). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Mansfield, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.

Source: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, Storm Events Database, county-level detail files 2016 to 2025, filtered to the counties of this statistical area by The Roofing Brief. Damage figures are as reported to the NWS and undercount insured losses.

What to do with this. Hail is not the governing risk in Mansfield. Weight your decision toward wind rating, ventilation and flashing detail rather than paying extra for impact-rated shingles.

Three EF2 tornadoes, and no permit to reshingle

Of the $2.15 million of hail, wind and tornado damage NOAA recorded in Richland County from 2016 to 2025, $1.45 million, about 68 percent, came from four tornadoes, three of them EF2. Hail is frequent but modest: 21 reports in ten years, the largest ping-pong-ball size in Shelby.

On 4 September 2017 an EF2 crossed from Crawford County along Hook Road in Springfield Township, tearing half the roof off a house and throwing two people in a bedroom about 50 feet; they escaped with minor injuries. Its $800,000 entry is the county’s largest of the decade. On 14 April 2019 a long-track tornado began south-west of Shelby and ran 17 miles north-east, doing EF2 damage on the south-east and east sides of the city and tossing a vehicle with two people inside 100 feet into the air.

On 14 March 2024 an EF2 with 120 mph winds entered the county from Crawford County near Plymouth, causing extensive damage to homes, outbuildings and power poles near West and Opdyke roads. In June 2022 an EF1 on Possum Run Road destroyed an outbuilding, and in April 2023 a 75 mph gust blew the roof off the Madison Township hall north-east of Mansfield.

After any of these storms, a homeowner reshingling in Mansfield or the county needs no permit, so no inspector checks the nailing, the ice barrier the city’s table requires, or the edge fastening that matters in 120 mph wind. Replacing sheathing or rafters does need a permit.

Mansfield’s protections are registration and licensing instead: ask the roofer for its city registration, which requires $300,000 of liability cover, and ask any door-to-door salesman for his commercial sales licence. Then write the fastening and ice barrier details into the contract yourself.

What a Mansfield homeowner should ask for in writing

There is no state roofing licence in OH. Ohio issues no state roofing contractor licence; its Construction Industry Licensing Board covers only HVAC, refrigeration, electrical, plumbing and hydronics contractors. A roofing business registers its entity or trade name with the Secretary of State and must carry workers’ compensation if it has employees, but there is no state trade exam or board for roofers.

Regulation is municipal: many Ohio cities run their own contractor registration, usually requiring liability insurance and workers’ compensation and sometimes a bond, and the Residential Code of Ohio is enforced only where a certified residential building department exists. Ohio has no roof-specific insurance statute: the Home Solicitation Sales Act gives three business days to cancel a door-to-door sale, and only a certified public adjuster may be paid to adjust a property claim.

That absence is the most important fact on this page. Where a state issues no credential, a manufacturer certification that can be revoked is the only quality signal a homeowner can actually check, which is why this ranking is built on certification rather than star ratings.

Check here: Ohio Secretary of State business search. Because Ohio licenses nobody at state level, check registration with the specific municipality where the work will happen, and lean harder on manufacturer certification and insurance verification.

For what a full replacement costs across Ohio, including state labor rates and permit rules, see our Ohio roof replacement cost guide.

Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.

  1. Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
  2. Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
  3. Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
  4. Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.

How these Mansfield rankings were produced

Every contractor in the Mansfield, OH pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 3 certified contractors, of whom 0 hold President’s Club standing and 1 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 4.65. The top three were then researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. Good and bad findings are published together, and no contractor paid for a place here.

Set aside in Mansfield. Contractors that would otherwise have scored into the top three were removed for the reason stated. The score is computed from public data, but where the research pass finds evidence undermining an input to that score, the score is set aside.

  • Revere Roofing Company Inc, which scored 70.6: Excluded on service area. A long-established Fredericktown roofer whose BBB service area is Knox County only and whose website serves central Ohio without naming Mansfield or Richland County. Its site also claims Ohio state roofing licences, which do not exist.
  • Buck I Roofing & Restoration, which scored 55.3: Excluded on service area. A Marengo roofer whose website lists Morrow, Delaware, Franklin, Marion, Knox, Licking and Union counties and whose BBB file lists Delaware and Franklin; neither names Richland County or Mansfield.
  • Zara Construction Inc, which scored 53.6: Excluded on core trade. A long-established local general contractor focused on insurance restoration, remodelling and custom homes, with roofing one service among many; GAF’s own description calls it a general contractor and its sample reviews describe interior work.
  • Tim’s Mid-Ohio Home Improvement LLC, which scored 47.3: Excluded on core trade and record. A Mansfield home improvement firm offering kitchens, baths, additions and pole barns alongside roofing; BBB rates it B- for an unanswered complaint and opened an advertising review in 2025 over unsubstantiated lifetime warranty claims that the firm had not answered.
  • D&R Exteriors LLC, which scored 46.0: Excluded on service area. A Centerburg roofer whose BBB service area covers Delaware, Franklin, Knox and Licking counties, not Richland, and whose listed website does not resolve.

The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page. What is the 25% rule for roofing in Ohio?

Ohio has no 25 percent roof rule. The Residential Code of Ohio, based on the 2018 IRC, requires a roof replacement to remove existing layers down to the deck and allows a recover only if the old roof is sound, is not slate, clay, cement or asbestos-cement tile, and does not already have two or more layers. Ohio does have an insurance matching rule, Ohio Adm. Code 3901-1-54(I)(1)(b), that people often confuse with a 25 percent rule.

Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Mansfield, Ohio?

What was the worst hailstorm in Mansfield in the last ten years?

The largest hailstone logged by the National Weather Service in the Mansfield, OH statistical area between 2016 and 2025 measured 1.5 inches, reported near Shelby on 1 June 2022. When is the worst time of year for roof damage in Mansfield?

Severe-weather reports in the Mansfield, OH statistical area cluster in June, May, July, on the NOAA record for 2016 to 2025. Scheduling discretionary work away from that window tends to get you a better crew and a faster start, because nobody is juggling emergency callouts.

Do roofers need a licence in OH?

What should I check before hiring a roofer in Mansfield?

Because Ohio licenses nobody at state level, check registration with the specific municipality where the work will happen, and lean harder on manufacturer certification and insurance verification.

Three EF2 tornadoes, and no permit to reshingle?

Of the $2.15 million of hail, wind and tornado damage NOAA recorded in Richland County from 2016 to 2025, $1.45 million, about 68 percent, came from four tornadoes, three of them EF2. Hail is frequent but modest: 21 reports in ten years, the largest ping-pong-ball size in Shelby.

Is Mansfield a hard market to find a good roofer in?

Is wind or hail the bigger risk to a roof in Mansfield?

Wind, by a wide margin. The Mansfield, OH statistical area logged 82 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports against 10 hail reports of an inch or more between 2016 and 2025. Wind damage shows up at the rake, ridge and edge rather than across the field of the roof, so the fastening schedule and edge detail matter more here than the impact rating of the shingle.

Why is Revere Roofing Company Inc not on this list?

Excluded on service area. A long-established Fredericktown roofer whose BBB service area is Knox County only and whose website serves central Ohio without naming Mansfield or Richland County. Its site also claims Ohio state roofing licences, which do not exist..
