Short answer: As of October 2026, the two highest-scoring roofing contractors in the Vineland, NJ metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score are East Coast Roofing Siding & Windows (78.0), Iron Shield Roofing & Siding (75.2). Each is certified by a manufacturer whose register we checked by hand, each rating has been tested against a source outside that register, and nobody bought a place on this page.
The Roofing Brief scored 2 certified roofing contractors serving the Vineland metro on a published, reproducible formula, then researched each of the top two individually to confirm its record. In Cumberland County the roof threat is wind crossing open farmland: an 85 mph microburst stripped shingles and flashing near Bridgeton in 2016, and in August 2020 a gust of about 89 mph was measured at Upper Deerfield, days after Isaias. Hail barely registers. New Jersey registers home improvement contractors but licenses none, and a reroof of a detached house needs no permit or inspection, so nobody but the roofer checks the work. Three manufacturer-certified roofers appear in the directory for Vineland; one publishes no Cumberland County coverage and is excluded, and two are ranked.
Wind, terrain and the Vineland housing stock
New Jersey has no roofing or general contractor licence in force. Anyone in the home improvement business must register with the Division of Consumer Affairs; numbers begin 13VH and must appear on adverts, contracts and commercial vehicles. Since a January 2024 law, registration also needs $500,000 of liability cover, workers’ compensation unless exempt and a bond or other security of $10,000 to $50,000. The same law created a future contractor licence with an exam, but the register still issues only business registrations.
Under the state’s construction code a repair or replacement of the roof covering on a detached one- or two-family house is ordinary maintenance needing no permit, inspection or notice; attached homes and multifamily roofs do need permits. Where a permit is needed in Vineland, the building fee is $20 per $1,000 of cost with a $50 minimum. Vineland licenses no contractors, though its door-to-door canvassing licence applies to roofers who knock.
Every home improvement contract over $500 must be in writing. New Jersey builds to the 2024 International Residential Code; it requires an ice barrier only in Sussex County, not here, and publishes no county wind speed, sending designers to site-specific hazard tools. We found no New Jersey rule on insurance deductibles.
Across 2016 to 2025 Cumberland County logged six hail reports, none over an inch, 71 thunderstorm wind reports and one brief tornado, which hit a solar field beside the Millville sewer department. NOAA records just $2,000 of damage in the decade. Vineland’s median home was built in 1971, and 30.1 percent of its homes are rented.

1. East Coast Roofing Siding & Windows: TRB Score 78.0
East Coast Roofing Siding & Windows is based in Mays Landing, NJ, in business since 1979, led by Jeff Kay, President and CEO per BBB; the state register names Shawn Stiteler as owner, BBB accredited since 13 May 1994, A+ rating, no complaints, and holds President’s Club standing on the GAF certification registry.

- East Coast Roofing Corporation, Inc., trading as East Coast Roofing, Siding & Windows, holds home improvement registration 13VH00181500, active since March 2005 and current to March 2027.. New Jersey licence verification
- Accredited since May 1994 with an A+ rating; founded and incorporated January 1979; service area includes Cumberland County; no complaints.. BBB business profile
- Names Cumberland County, Vineland and Millville among the communities it serves.. Company website, service areas
What they actually do. Roof replacement, commercial roofing, siding, gutters, windows and doors.
Why it ranks here. The longest-established firm serving Cumberland County, founded in 1979 with BBB and its own site agreeing, and BBB accredited since 1994 with no complaints. It holds GAF’s President’s Club tier with 306 reviews and an active state registration since 2005. Unlike the excluded firm, it names Vineland, Millville and Cumberland County on its own site as well as at BBB. It is based in Mays Landing in Atlantic County, about 20 miles east, and is also ranked on our Atlantic City page.
Best fit for: Vineland and Millville homeowners who want a long-established firm with explicit Cumberland County coverage and windows and siding as well.
What we would want clarified. Its 4.5 rating is the lower of the two, and BBB and the state register name different principals; its registration is held in the corporate name East Coast Roofing Corporation, Inc. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.
Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (609) 837-6777, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.
2. Iron Shield Roofing & Siding: TRB Score 75.2
Iron Shield Roofing & Siding is based in Mays Landing, NJ, led by Danilson Pineda, owner, BBB accredited since 27 September 2022, A+ rating, no complaints, and holds Master Elite standing on the GAF certification registry.

What they actually do. Residential and commercial roofing, roof repair and vinyl siding.
Why it ranks here. A Mays Landing firm at GAF Master Elite with a perfect 5.0 across 32 reviews and a clean BBB record since 2022. BBB’s service area includes Cumberland County, the only coverage evidence we found. Its state registration dates only from July 2025, though BBB dates the business to 2011 and no earlier Iron Shield roofing registration exists, so we give no founding year. It is also ranked on our Atlantic City page.
Best fit for: Homeowners who want a smaller owner-run firm with a perfect early record.
What we would want clarified. A thin review base, a registration only since 2025, and no website we could confirm; the domain ironshieldroofing.com belongs to an unrelated Canadian roofer. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.
Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (609) 322-8944, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.
Other registered roofers in Cumberland County
Two certified firms are ranked here. These five hold an active New Jersey home improvement registration, and most are based in Vineland, Millville or Bridgeton. They are not scored and we are not recommending them. Two other local roofers we checked had registrations that expired for failure to renew.

The 71 wind reports that shape a Vineland roof
Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 1 county of the Vineland, NJ statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 6 hail reports, 71 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 1 tornado. The database’s property-damage fields are left blank for most of these reports, so it carries no usable loss total for this metro and we do not quote one.

The biggest hail to fall on Vineland in a decade
| Date | Stone size | Reported near | County |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2 April 2016 | 1.0 in | Newport | Cumberland |
| 21 April 2021 | 1.0 in | Millville | Cumberland |
| 25 August 2020 | 1.0 in | Newport | Cumberland |
| 25 May 2017 | 1.0 in | Shiloh | Cumberland |
| 21 April 2021 | 0.88 in | Millville | Cumberland |
| 28 May 2019 | 0.88 in | Bridgeton | Cumberland |
The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 2 April 2016 near Newport, measured at 1.0 inches. One inch is the point at which hail starts bruising asphalt shingles, which is damage an adjuster can find even when a homeowner cannot.
Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 77 knots, about 89 mph, near Husted on 7 August 2020. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.
Tornadoes. 1 tornado touched down in these counties over the decade, the strongest rated EF0 near Millville on 7 August 2019.
What the National Weather Service wrote about it
The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 2 April 2016 event near Shiloh, reproduced verbatim:
A microburst wind event moved through Bridgeton and Hopewell Townships east of Shiloh during the late evening hours on April 2nd. Damage began on Shoemaker Lane at the intersection of Barretts Run Road in Hopewell. The damage was most concentrated on the western end of Shoemaker Lane…with numerous trees sheared off and some uprooted. Some trees were in excess of 2 feet in diameter. There was also substantial damage to a metal garage on Shoemaker Lane. The damage ended near the Walmart on Route 77 in Bridgeton…where several power poles and trees were felled. There was also damage to roof shingles and flashing along the 1000 foot wide path. Estimated peak wind speeds, based mainly on tree…
That account is the design case for a roof here, and it comes from the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.
When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in July (22), April (17), August (13). The worst years on record were 2020 (24), 2016 (17), 2019 (10). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Vineland, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.
Source: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, Storm Events Database, county-level detail files 2016 to 2025, filtered to the counties of this statistical area by The Roofing Brief. Damage figures are as reported to the NWS and undercount insured losses.
What to do with this. Hail is not the governing risk in Vineland. Weight your decision toward wind rating, ventilation and flashing detail rather than paying extra for impact-rated shingles.
Wind across open farmland, with no inspector
Hail barely registers in Cumberland County: six reports in ten years, none larger than an inch. The roof damage comes from wind running across the flat farmland of south Jersey.
On the evening of 2 April 2016 a microburst crossed Bridgeton and Hopewell townships east of Shiloh. An NWS survey team with county emergency management estimated peak winds of 85 mph along a path 1,000 feet wide and recorded damage to roof shingles and flashing, trees more than two feet across sheared off and a damaged metal garage, ending near the Walmart on Route 77 in Bridgeton.
Tropical remnants bring the next tier. Isaias on 4 August 2020 brought 40 to 60 mph winds, including at Millville’s airport, with trees and lines down; NOAA called it the most impactful tropical cyclone for most of the region since Sandy. Three days later, on ground already soaked, storms produced the strongest measured gust of the county’s decade, 77 knots or about 89 mph, at the Rutgers research centre in Upper Deerfield. The zone record adds ten high wind events, including a 62 mph gust in January 2024.
The rules leave the homeowner to check the work. New Jersey’s code gives no county wind speed to hold a roofer to, and because a detached-house reroof is ordinary maintenance, no inspector looks at the nailing, starter strips or flashing on the very roofs these downbursts test.
So in Vineland the roofer’s own standards are the only control. Ask how it will fasten the edges and ridge for 85 mph gusts, what nailing pattern it will use, and how it will flash chimneys and walls; confirm its 13VH registration is active on the state register; and get the written contract the rules require for any job over $500.

How to tell a Vineland roofer’s claims from their record
Licensing is required in NJ. New Jersey has no general contractor licence today. Anyone performing home improvement work including roofing must hold a Home Improvement Contractor registration with the Division of Consumer Affairs, and must show the registration number, which begins 13VH, on advertisements, contracts and business documents and on its commercial vehicles.
Registration requires a $110 fee, commercial general liability insurance of at least $500,000 per occurrence and, since a January 2024 law (P.L. 2023, c. 237), workers’ compensation cover unless exempt plus a compliance bond or other security of $10,000, $25,000 or $50,000 depending on contract value. It is a consumer-protection registration rather than a competency licence. The same 2024 law created a future Home Improvement Contractor licence with an examination and a state board, but the register still issues only business registrations, and its start date was not confirmed.
Check here: New Jersey licence verification. Check the 13VH number on the state verification site. A contractor must be registered and put its number on any construction permit application, but a reroof of a detached one- or two-family house needs no permit at all under the state’s Uniform Construction Code, so that check rarely applies to a roof job. A manufacturer certification and a documented work record therefore carry real weight in New Jersey.
Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.
- Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
- Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
- Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
- Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.
The shape of the Vineland contractor market
2 certified roofing contractors serve the principal cities of the Vineland, NJ statistical area, of which 1 hold the top President’s Club tier. The pool carries 338 customer reviews between them at a mean rating of 4.833. The statistical area had a 2024 population of 155,678, a change of 0.99% against the 2020 census base, per the U.S. Census Bureau Vintage 2024 estimates.

How these Vineland rankings were produced
Every contractor in the Vineland, NJ pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 2 certified contractors, of whom 1 hold President’s Club standing and 1 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 4.833. The top two were then researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. Anything unflattering that research surfaced appears above alongside the rest, and no company bought its position.
Set aside in Vineland. A contractor that would otherwise have scored into the top two was removed for the reason stated. The score is computed from public data, but where the research pass finds evidence undermining an input to that score, the score is set aside.
- DSK Roofing, which scored 91.9: Excluded on service area. It holds an active New Jersey registration and a clean BBB record, but it is based in Turnersville, about 25 miles north, its website’s town pages cover only Camden and Gloucester county towns, and BBB lists only Cherry Hill; nothing it publishes names Vineland, Millville, Bridgeton or Cumberland County.
The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page. Last updated: October 2026. Scoring run: 2026-10-08. Corrections go to the editor and are actioned on verification.
What Vineland homeowners want to know
Who is the best roofer in Vineland, NJ?
East Coast Roofing Siding & Windows of Mays Landing, NJ scores highest in the Vineland metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score, at 78.0 out of 100 as of October 2026. It holds President’s Club certification with a 4.5 rating across 306 reviews. Highest-scoring is not the same as best fit for your specific job, and the company behind it scores within 2.8 points.
How many certified roofing contractors serve Vineland?
2 contractors on the GAF certification registry serve the principal cities of the Vineland, NJ statistical area as of October 2026, of which 1 hold President’s Club status.
How much damaging hail does Vineland get?
The Vineland, NJ statistical area recorded 4 hail reports of 1 inch or larger and 0 of 2 inches or larger between 2016 and 2025 in the NOAA Storm Events Database. The largest hailstone reported measured 1.0 inches.
Did any contractor pay to appear on this list?
No. The Roofing Brief takes no placement fees, no lead fees and no affiliate commission from any roofing contractor. Ranking comes entirely from the published formula applied to public registry data, followed by an individual research pass on the top two.
What was the worst hailstorm in Vineland in the last ten years?
The largest hailstone logged by the National Weather Service in the Vineland, NJ statistical area between 2016 and 2025 measured 1.0 inches, reported near Newport on 2 April 2016. One inch is the point at which hail starts bruising asphalt shingles, which is damage an adjuster can find even when a homeowner cannot. Across the decade the metro recorded 6 hail reports. The database’s property-damage fields are left blank for most of these reports, so it carries no usable loss total for this metro and we do not quote one.
When is the worst time of year for roof damage in Vineland?
Severe-weather reports in the Vineland, NJ statistical area cluster in July, April, August, on the NOAA record for 2016 to 2025. Booking non-urgent roof work outside those months usually means shorter lead times, because local crews are not simultaneously triaging storm callouts.
Do roofers need a licence in NJ?
What should I check before hiring a roofer in Vineland?
Check the 13VH number on the state verification site. A contractor must be registered and put its number on any construction permit application, but a reroof of a detached one- or two-family house needs no permit at all under the state’s Uniform Construction Code, so that check rarely applies to a roof job. A manufacturer certification and a documented work record therefore carry real weight in New Jersey.
Wind across open farmland, with no inspector?
Hail barely registers in Cumberland County: six reports in ten years, none larger than an inch. The roof damage comes from wind running across the flat farmland of south Jersey.
Is Vineland a hard market to find a good roofer in?
Is wind or hail the bigger risk to a roof in Vineland?
Wind, by a wide margin. The Vineland, NJ statistical area logged 71 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports against 4 hail reports of an inch or more between 2016 and 2025. Wind damage shows up at the rake, ridge and edge rather than across the field of the roof, so the fastening schedule and edge detail matter more here than the impact rating of the shingle.
Why is DSK Roofing not on this list?
Excluded on service area. It holds an active New Jersey registration and a clean BBB record, but it is based in Turnersville, about 25 miles north, its website’s town pages cover only Camden and Gloucester county towns, and BBB lists only Cherry Hill; nothing it publishes names Vineland, Millville, Bridgeton or Cumberland County..
