Short answer: As of October 2026, the three highest-scoring roofing contractors in the Valdosta, GA metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score are Platinum Roofing Solutions (72.6), Best Choice Roofing (69.0), Universal Remodeling & Roofing (56.7). All of them carry a verifiable manufacturer certification, every rating here was cross-checked against an independent record, and no money changed hands for any placement.
The Roofing Brief scored 3 certified roofing contractors serving the Valdosta metro on a published, reproducible formula, then researched each of the top three individually to confirm its record. Valdosta took two hurricanes in thirteen months: Idalia in August 2023 damaged more than 1,100 homes in Lowndes County, and Helene in September 2024 brought 83 knot gusts to Lake Park, felled pines onto houses across the city and left $500 million of recorded damage in the county alone. Weekly roofing permits in Lowndes County went from about a dozen to more than a hundred. Georgia licenses no roofers. Three manufacturer-certified roofers with five or more reviews appear in the directory for Valdosta, all based in the city, and all three are ranked.
Wind, terrain and the Valdosta housing stock
Georgia does not license roofers: the state’s consumer protection division lists roofers among specialty trades not required to be licensed, and O.C.G.A. 43-41-17(f) exempts specialty contractors from the residential and general contractor licence. Valdosta’s inspections department, which handles permits for the city, Hahira, Lake Park, Dasher and unincorporated Lowndes County, requires every contractor to hold a business licence where the work is done and to register with the city’s business licence office.
A building permit is required to repair or alter a structure, which Valdosta says includes roofs. A homeowner may pull a residential permit only for work on a home they own and occupy; Georgia makes it illegal for a homeowner to buy a permit for someone else to do the work. Valdosta builds to the 2024 International Residential Code adopted by the state.
Under O.C.G.A. 10-1-393.12 you may cancel an insurance-funded roofing contract before midnight on the fifth business day after your insurer says in writing that all or part of the claim is not covered, and the roofer may not take payment until that period has passed. Georgia has no statute barring a roofer from waiving or rebating a deductible.
Across 2016 to 2025 Brooks, Echols, Lanier and Lowndes counties logged 25 hail reports, 382 thunderstorm wind reports and 12 tornadoes, including a Brooks County EF3 in January 2017 that killed two people in a mobile home. County storm rows record $5.6 million of damage, but the hurricane rows NOAA files by zone add $650 million. The city’s median home was built in 1986, 58.3 percent of its homes are rented, and mobile homes are 11.9 percent of the metro’s housing.
The 3 best roofers in Valdosta, GA
Scored 2026-10-08. The metro mean rating used as the Bayesian prior for Valdosta is 4.767, across a pool of 3 certified contractors.
| Rank | Company | TRB Score | Certification | Rating (reviews) | Adjusted | In business since | Based in |

1. Platinum Roofing Solutions: TRB Score 72.6
Platinum Roofing Solutions is based in Valdosta, GA, led by Cody L. Perkins, CEO and owner; Hunter Kimble, COO, BBB accredited since 14 September 2020, A+ rating, one complaint in three years, and holds Certified standing on the GAF certification registry.
Certifications held: Certified (GAF), Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor. Certification by more than one manufacturer is uncommon and requires meeting each programme’s separate standards for insurance, training and track record.

| Certification tier | 12 | 35 |
| Adjusted rating | 35.6 | 40 |
| Review corpus depth | 15.0 | 15 |
| Metro proximity | 10.0 | 10 |
| Total | 72.6 | 100 |
Independently corroborated:
- Listed in Valdosta at Owens Corning’s top Platinum Preferred tier, membership 228853.. Owens Corning contractor locator
- Accredited since September 2020 with an A+ rating; business started April 2018; CEO and owner Cody L. Perkins; one complaint in three years.. BBB business profile
- About 221 roofing permits from July 2024 to October 2026, the second most of any firm.. Lowndes County permit lists
What they actually do. Residential replacement and storm restoration, commercial TPO, EPDM, PVC and single-ply roofing, and drone inspections.
Why it ranks here. The deepest review record in the metro, 591 GAF reviews averaging 4.9, from a Valdosta company on S Saint Augustine Road whose Owens Corning Platinum status is confirmed on Owens Corning’s own locator. It was the second most frequent roofing permit holder in Lowndes County after Helene, so it has handled more local storm roofs than almost anyone. It has grown into a regional firm with offices in Brunswick and Columbus, Georgia and Dothan and Foley, Alabama. BBB dates it to 2018; its site cites only combined experience, so we give no founding year. A ‘GAF Gold Elite’ claim in its BBB text is not a real GAF tier.
Best fit for: Valdosta homeowners with a hurricane or tree-damage claim who want a local firm with a large storm-repair record.
What we would want clarified. It holds GAF’s entry Certified tier, BBB shows one complaint in three years, and it now runs offices in several states; ask who will manage a Valdosta job. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.
Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (229) 929-3069, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.
2. Best Choice Roofing: TRB Score 69.0
Best Choice Roofing is based in Valdosta, GA, Not accredited; A+ rating; no complaints, and holds Certified standing on the GAF certification registry.

Independently corroborated:
- Best Choice Roofing of Valdosta was the most frequent roofing permit holder from July 2024 to October 2026, with about 236 permits.. Lowndes County permit lists
- Best Choice Roofing, Valdosta: A+ rating, not accredited, no complaints; no start date or principal shown.. BBB business profile
- A national company founded in 2009 by Wayne Holloway, with more than 80 locations in over 25 states.. Company About page
What they actually do. Residential shingle replacement, insurance claim help and one-day installs.
Why it ranks here. The Valdosta branch of a national roofing company, headquartered in Tennessee, with 176 GAF reviews averaging 4.9 and the most roofing permits of any firm in Lowndes County since Helene. Its local office is on W Central Ave and it serves south Georgia from Albany to Brunswick. Its Valdosta web page still shows unfilled template text, including ‘XYZ Years Running’ and a placeholder licence number, and the company claims Owens Corning Platinum status that Owens Corning’s locator does not show within 50 miles. We could not identify the local legal entity, manager or opening date.
Best fit for: Homeowners who want a large operator with capacity for a fast replacement after a storm.
What we would want clarified. A branch of a national chain rather than a local company, with template text on its local page and an Owens Corning claim we could not confirm; ask who the local manager is and which entity signs your contract. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.
Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (229) 703-9590, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.
3. Universal Remodeling & Roofing: TRB Score 56.7
Universal Remodeling & Roofing is based in Valdosta, GA, BBB accredited since 17 January 2024, A+ rating, no complaints, and holds Certified standing on the GAF certification registry.
| Score component | Points | Max |
|---|---|---|
| Certification tier | 12 | 35 |
| Adjusted rating | 26.8 | 40 |
| Review corpus depth | 8.0 | 15 |
| Metro proximity | 10.0 | 10 |
| Total | 56.7 | 100 |
Independently corroborated:
- Accredited since January 2024 with an A+ rating; business started 2018; filed under remodeling; no complaints.. BBB business profile
- Universal Remodeling & Roofing LLC, active; a notice of administrative dissolution in June 2024 was followed by its annual registration a month later.. Georgia LLC record
- About 57 roofing permits from July 2024 to October 2026.. Lowndes County permit lists
What they actually do. Residential roofing and remodelling.
Why it ranks here. A local Valdosta firm on N Patterson Street with 29 GAF reviews averaging 4.5, which pulled a steady stream of roofing permits after Helene. BBB files it as a remodeller, so roofing is one of two trades, and has accredited it since January 2024 with no complaints. Its company received a notice of administrative dissolution in June 2024, the usual result of a missed annual filing, and filed a month later; it is in good standing, and we treat this as a paperwork lapse, not a finding. We found no website, and BBB’s 2018 start date is the only source for its age.
Best fit for: Homeowners who want a small local firm that does both roofing and interior remodelling.
What we would want clarified. The lowest rating of the three, no website, and a short accredited record; ask for its city business licence and insurance certificates. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.
Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (229) 598-9852, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.

| ARAC Roof It Forward | Owens Corning Platinum Preferred with a Valdosta branch on N Oak St; headquartered in Woodstock, Georgia. |

The 382 wind reports that shape a Valdosta roof
Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 4 counties of the Valdosta, GA statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 25 hail reports, 382 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 12 tornadoes. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $5.6 million; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

The biggest hail to fall on Valdosta in a decade
| Date | Stone size | Reported near | County |
|---|---|---|---|
| 24 April 2021 | 2.5 in | Statenville | Echols |
| 9 November 2025 | 2.0 in | Oaklawn | Brooks |
| 24 April 2021 | 2.0 in | Empress | Brooks |
| 3 May 2016 | 1.75 in | Remerton | Lowndes |
| 9 November 2025 | 1.75 in | Dixie | Brooks |
| 27 March 2024 | 1.75 in | Naylor | Lowndes |
The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 24 April 2021 near Statenville, measured at 2.5 inches. That is hen-egg sized. Two inches is the threshold at which insurers expect functional damage and full replacement claims.
Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 70 knots, about 81 mph, near Stockton on 2 June 2018. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.
Tornadoes. 12 tornadoes touched down in these counties over the decade, the strongest rated EF3 near Sand Hill on 22 January 2017.
What the National Weather Service wrote about it
The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 3 May 2016 event near Lakeland, reproduced verbatim:
Structural damage was reported on the southeast side of Lakeland near Oscar Carter Lane with numerous trees down, including some on houses. This was the result of a downburst. Damage was estimated.
That is the kind of damage a roof in this metro has to be specified against, described by the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.
When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in April (116), July (69), June (60). The worst years on record were 2023 (84), 2020 (76), 2016 (57). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Valdosta, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.
Source: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, Storm Events Database, county-level detail files 2016 to 2025, filtered to the counties of this statistical area by The Roofing Brief. Damage figures are as reported to the NWS and undercount insured losses.
What to do with this. Hail is not the governing risk in Valdosta. Weight your decision toward wind rating, ventilation and flashing detail rather than paying extra for impact-rated shingles.
Two hurricanes in thirteen months
On 30 August 2023 Hurricane Idalia made landfall near Keaton Beach as a category 3 and was still a hurricane over southern Georgia hours later. In Lowndes County NWS recorded 1,127 homes damaged, 684 of them destroyed or with major damage, 97 percent of residents without power and Interstate 75 shut at two points. One of Idalia’s nine direct deaths was in Valdosta, where a falling tree crushed a man.
Thirteen months later Helene was worse. It came ashore near Perry, Florida as a category 4 on the night of 26 to 27 September 2024 and, moving fast, stayed a hurricane over southern Georgia. A weather station in Lake Park measured 53 knots sustained with an 83 knot gust; a research probe in Valdosta recorded a 72 knot gust. NWS records $500 million of damage in Lowndes County, about 99 percent of the county without power, two deaths and 77 injuries, mostly from trees falling on homes, every window blown out of the airport tower and dozens of homes left unlivable.
The trees did much of the roof damage. A downburst in March 2024 had already shown the pattern on a smaller scale: of 32 homes affected in northwest Valdosta, all the damage came from falling pines, some homes effectively sliced in half. In Echols County, Helene’s winds and falling trees damaged many roofs along US 129 and snapped about 1,000 power poles, almost twice the toll from Idalia.
The reroof surge shows in the county’s weekly permit lists, reprinted by the Valdosta Daily Times. The July 2024 lists carried 10 to 16 roofing permits a week; the November 2024 lists carried 74 to 108, and the list of 20 December 2024 carried 119. The number of firms pulling roofing permits rose from 11 a week to between 41 and 57. Two of the ranked firms, Best Choice and Platinum, were the most frequent roofing permit holders from July 2024 to October 2026.
For a Valdosta homeowner the lesson is trees and fastening. Ask a roofer how it will deal with decking damaged by a fallen limb, how the edges and ridge will be secured for hurricane gusts, and whether a FORTIFIED roof is an option; check its city business licence and registration; and if the job is insurance-funded, remember the five-business-day cancellation right and that the roofer may not take payment until it runs.

The checks worth making in Valdosta
There is no state roofing licence in GA. Georgia does not require a state roofing licence. The State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors treats roofers as an exempt specialty contractor, so no state licensure is needed for residential or commercial roofing work.
Some Georgia roofers voluntarily hold a Residential Basic Contractor, Residential Light Commercial or General Contractor licence, or join the Georgia Roofing Contractors Association, purely as a credibility signal. Local city and county licensing requirements still apply.
That absence is the most important fact on this page. Where a state issues no credential, a manufacturer certification that can be revoked is the only quality signal a homeowner can actually check, which is why this ranking is built on certification rather than star ratings.
Check here: Georgia State Licensing Board. Because the state exempts roofers, check the county or municipal business licence where the work will happen, and lean harder on manufacturer certification.
Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.
- Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
- Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
- Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
- Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.
The Valdosta market behind this ranking
3 certified roofing contractors serve the principal cities of the Valdosta, GA statistical area, of which 0 hold the top President’s Club tier. The pool carries 796 customer reviews between them at a mean rating of 4.767. The statistical area had a 2024 population of 152,588, a change of 3.0% against the 2020 census base, per the U.S. Census Bureau Vintage 2024 estimates.

How these Valdosta rankings were produced
Every contractor in the Valdosta, GA pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 3 certified contractors, of whom 0 hold President’s Club standing and 0 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 4.767. The top three were then researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. Good and bad findings are published together, and no contractor paid for a place here.
The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page.
Is wind or hail the bigger risk to a roof in Valdosta?
Wind, by a wide margin. The Valdosta, GA statistical area logged 382 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports against 17 hail reports of an inch or more between 2016 and 2025. Wind damage shows up at the rake, ridge and edge rather than across the field of the roof, so the fastening schedule and edge detail matter more here than the impact rating of the shingle.
