Best Roofers in Bowling Green, KY: 4 Certified Contractors, Scored and Verified

The four best roofers in Bowling Green, KY, ranked on a published formula and verified individually against BBB, licence and manufacturer records. No paid placement.

Best Roofers in Bowling Green, KY: 4 Certified Contractors, Scored and Verified

Short answer: As of October 2026, the four highest-scoring roofing contractors in the Bowling Green, KY metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score are Eric Gill Roofing (76.4), Build 2 Suit (62.7), Trusted Friend Roofing (61.7), CMS Roofing (61.1). Every one holds a manufacturer certification that can be verified independently, every rating below has been corroborated against at least one source outside the certification registry, and no company paid to appear here.

The Roofing Brief scored 7 certified roofing contractors serving the Bowling Green metro on a published, reproducible formula, then researched each of the top four individually to confirm its record. In the early hours of 11 December 2021 an EF3 tornado ran 25 miles through Warren County and Bowling Green’s subdivisions, killing 16 people and wiping homes near Mossy Creek down to their foundations; the federal storm record attaches no damage figure to it at all. Kentucky licenses no roofers, but Bowling Green and Warren County do, through a joint licensing board with a public list and a consumer warning list. Nine certified firms appear in the directory; after removing those that fail our checks, four are ranked.

What a Bowling Green roof is up against

Kentucky has no state roofing licence; the state licenses plumbers, electricians and HVAC contractors but not roofers, and a 2026 bill to change that never left committee. Bowling Green and Warren County fill the gap. Their joint Contractors Licensing Board, created by city and county ordinances in 1991, requires every general and specialty contractor working in the city and county to be licensed, roofers included, at $100 a year for a specialty licence. There is no trade exam, but applicants must show liability insurance, workers’ compensation and tax registration, and the Board can suspend or revoke a licence.

The Board also publishes a consumer warning list of firms barred from working in Warren County after a court injunction, unlicensed work or a revocation hearing; on 6 October 2026 it named 28 people or firms, none of them among the firms ranked here. Check both lists before signing. The City of Bowling Green lists replacing shingles among projects that may not need a building permit; where one is needed, it costs $20 plus $2.50 per $1,000 over $3,000.

Kentucky’s roofing and insurance law is KRS 367.620 to 367.628. You may cancel an insurance-funded contract before midnight on the fifth business day after the insurer’s written denial, and the contractor may take no advance payment until then. It may not offer to pay or rebate your deductible, give you anything worth more than $100, negotiate your claim, or market itself as a claims or insurance specialist, and, for contracts from 15 July 2026, it may not be financially connected to a public adjuster, appraiser or insurance business on the job. The Attorney General can seek $5,000 per violation.

Across 2016 to 2025 Allen, Butler, Edmonson and Warren counties logged 63 hail reports, the largest 2.75 inches on the south side of Bowling Green on 16 May 2025, 260 thunderstorm wind reports and 19 tornado segments. The recorded damage total of $2.4 million omits the worst storm entirely. Warren County’s homes are young, with 29 percent built since 2010, and 63.4 percent of homes in the city are rented, around Western Kentucky University.

Independently corroborated:

What they actually do. Residential shingle roofing, shingle work for builders, repairs and carpentry.

Why it ranks here. The established Bowling Green roofer: a shingle-only specialist with five full crews, three of them with the firm for more than 25 years, BBB accredited since 2008 with no complaints, a current local licence, Master Elite certification and a 4.9 across 52 reviews. It works within 50 miles of Bowling Green.

Best fit for: Shingle reroofs where crew experience matters.

What we would want clarified. Its founding year is 1990 by BBB and 1994 by its own site. It does shingle roofing only, so look elsewhere for metal or low-slope work. Certification tier and reviews are unverified. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (270) 784-9066, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.

2. Build 2 Suit — TRB Score 62.7

  • Build 2 Suit: Roofing Division, A+ rating, not accredited, file opened 2022, no complaints; service area Warren County.. BBB business profile

What they actually do. Residential and commercial roofing, storm and insurance work, new construction roofing.

Why it ranks here. A Bowling Green roofing company active since 2015 with a current local licence, a clean BBB file and a perfect 5.0 across 29 reviews.

Best fit for: Bowling Green homeowners paying for a roof themselves.

What we would want clarified. Its principal also manages an insurance advisory company at the same address. Kentucky’s KRS 367.628, for contracts from 15 July 2026, bars a contractor on an insurance-paid job from being financially connected to a business that specialises in insurance; we make no finding that any rule has been broken, but on an insurance job ask the firm to explain the relationship in writing. Its local licence renews on 4 November 2026. Certification tier and reviews are unverified. 3. Trusted Friend Roofing — TRB Score 61.7

Trusted Friend Roofing is based in Franklin, KY, led by George Wilhoite, owner, BBB accredited since 10 June 2026, A+ rating, no complaints, and holds Certified standing on the GAF certification registry.

What they actually do. Residential roofing, commercial low-slope systems, siding, gutters and windows.

Why it ranks here. A perfect 5.0 across 53 reviews from a Franklin roofer that holds a current Bowling Green-Warren County licence and serves Bowling Green and south-central Kentucky.

Best fit for: Homeowners who want both shingle and low-slope capability.

What we would want clarified. It is young and based in Franklin, Simpson County, just outside the metro. It says it began in 2018, but the company its name points to was formed in May 2026, its BBB accreditation dates from June 2026, and BBB’s 1930 start date is evidently wrong. Several published reviews describe door-to-door selling. Certification tier and reviews are unverified. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

4. CMS Roofing — TRB Score 61.1

CMS Roofing is based in Bowling Green, KY, led by Phil Jaggers, owner, BBB accredited since 25 October 2012, A+ rating, one complaint in three years, and holds Master Elite standing on the GAF certification registry.

What they actually do. Residential, commercial and multifamily roofing, storm restoration and FORTIFIED roof systems.

Why it ranks here. The largest firm in the pool, trading since 2005 with offices in Bowling Green and Owensboro, BBB accredited since 2012, Master Elite certification, and a stated policy of tearing off to the deck rather than roofing over.

Best fit for: Larger or multifamily jobs, and FORTIFIED-standard roofs.

What we would want clarified. Its 4.2 rating across 100 reviews is the lowest in the pool, and BBB shows one complaint in three years. Its website headlines ‘Insurance Claim Repair Specialists’; Kentucky’s KRS 367.628, as amended in July 2026, bars a contractor from marketing itself as a claims or insurance specialist, so keep your claim in your own hands. Certification tier and reviews are unverified. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (270) 784-4757, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.

The 53 hail reports behind a Bowling Green roof

Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 4 counties of the Bowling Green, KY statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 63 hail reports, 260 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 19 tornadoes. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $2.4 million; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

16 May 2025 2.75 in Bristow Warren
16 May 2025 2.5 in Bristow Warren
16 May 2025 2.0 in Oakland Warren
4 April 2025 1.75 in Smiths Grove Warren
5 April 2017 1.75 in Anna Warren

The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 16 May 2025 near Memphis Jct, measured at 2.75 inches. That is baseball sized, comfortably past the point where a roof is written off rather than repaired.

Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 87 knots, about 100 mph, near Smiths Grove on 25 June 2023. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.

Tornadoes. 19 tornadoes touched down in these counties over the decade, the strongest rated EF3 near Petros on 11 December 2021.

What the National Weather Service wrote about it

The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 25 June 2023 event near Smiths Grove, reproduced verbatim:

The National Weather Service in Louisville conducted a storm survey for the macroburst damage extending from western Grayson County, through Edmonson County, before ending in northeastern Warren County. As the survey continued into northeastern Warren County, multiple barns suffered damage along Louisville Road (US Highway 31W), resulting in wind speed estimates between 85 and 95 mph. Additionally, in this area, scattered tree damage continued to be observed. Another pocket of heavily concentrated damage was noted in the Smiths Grove, Oakland, and Plum Springs communities, resulting in minor structural damage and numerous trees down. The most severe tree damage along the whole path of the…

A roof in this metro is built against events like that one, as recorded by the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.

When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in May (74), July (51), June (50). The worst years on record were 2025 (61), 2016 (51), 2017 (46). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Bowling Green, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.

What to do with this. Hail is not the governing risk in Bowling Green. Weight your decision toward wind rating, ventilation and flashing detail rather than paying extra for impact-rated shingles.

11 December 2021: the overnight EF3

At 1:09 in the morning of 11 December 2021 an EF3 tornado touched down in rural southwest Warren County and tracked northeast through Bowling Green, 25.7 miles in the county and another 3.6 into Edmonson, up to a quarter of a mile wide. NWS recorded 16 deaths and 63 injuries in Warren County; across central Kentucky that night’s outbreak produced 18 tornadoes.

NWS Louisville surveyed the track over six days. With engineers from Western Kentucky University it examined eight homes near Mossy Creek that had been wiped down to their foundations and set the winds there at 160 mph, a high EF3. In the Creekwood subdivision dozens of homes had collapsed exterior walls and roofs blown off, and dozens of double garages had one door blown in and the other blown out.

The tornado passed 225 yards from the university, scattering debris across the campus, and caused roof and siding damage along Magnolia Avenue and Nutwood Street. At the Corvette plant it threw metal roof sheeting, insulation and HVAC units hundreds of yards. A separate EF2 the same night struck the regional airport, damaged a hangar roof and stripped roofing and windows from apartments and townhouses, with NWS using drones to read the roof damage for its wind estimates.

Along the weaker edges of the track the damage was overwhelmingly to roofs, siding and gutters. Yet none of the five tornado segments in Warren and Edmonson counties that night carries a property damage estimate in the federal database, so the official dollar total for the metro leaves out its worst storm.

After a storm like that, Bowling Green’s own tools matter most: check the roofer on the city-county licence list and the consumer warning list, insist on the cancellation notice Kentucky requires on insurance jobs, and refuse any roofer who offers to cover your deductible or deal with your insurer for you.

Before you sign anything in Bowling Green

There is no state roofing licence in KY. Kentucky requires no state licence to perform roofing work. The state licenses HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors but not roofers, so there is no state exam and no state board that can discipline a roofing contractor.

House Bill 150, introduced in January 2026 to create a state roofing licence, never advanced beyond committee. Some roofers hold voluntary certification with the Kentucky Roofing Contractors Association, a nonprofit trade body. What Kentucky does regulate is the insurance-funded job: under KRS 367.620 to 367.628 you may cancel before midnight on the fifth business day after the insurer denies all or part of the claim in writing, and a contractor may not offer to pay or rebate your deductible, give you anything worth more than $100, negotiate your claim, market itself as a claims or insurance specialist, or, for contracts from 15 July 2026, be financially connected to a public adjuster, appraiser or insurance business on the job.

That absence is the most important fact on this page. Where a state issues no credential, a manufacturer certification that can be revoked is the only quality signal a homeowner can actually check, which is why this ranking is built on certification rather than star ratings.

Check here: KRS 367.628 (Kentucky Legislature). Licensing happens locally where it exists at all, so ask the city or county which contractor licence applies, and get the answer in writing. On an insurance job, check the contract for the cancellation notice and refuse anyone who offers to cover your deductible or to deal with your insurer for you.

Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.

  1. Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
  2. Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
  3. Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
  4. Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.

How deep the Bowling Green certified market really is

7 certified roofing contractors serve the principal cities of the Bowling Green, KY statistical area, of which 0 hold the top President’s Club tier. The pool carries 269 customer reviews between them at a mean rating of 4.644. How these Bowling Green rankings were produced

Every contractor in the Bowling Green, KY pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 7 certified contractors, of whom 0 hold President’s Club standing and 2 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 4.644. The top four were then researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. Where that research turned up something awkward it is on the page, and no placement was paid for.

Set aside in Bowling Green. Contractors that would otherwise have scored into the top four were removed for the reason stated. The score is computed from public data, but where the research pass finds evidence undermining an input to that score, the score is set aside.

  • Conyer Roofing & Exteriors LLC, which scored 87.2: Excluded on service area. It is based in Portland, Tennessee, and its website describes a Greater Nashville and northern Middle Tennessee business, naming no Kentucky town. It does hold a current Bowling Green-Warren County contractor licence, so it may work here, but it publishes no coverage of the metro.
  • Hale Roofing, which scored 52.5: Excluded because we could not find it on the Bowling Green-Warren County Contractors Licensing Board’s contractor list, which every contractor working in the city and county must be on, under any of its names, owners or its phone number; and the Kentucky company it names itself after is inactive and in bad standing. It has traded since 1971 and been BBB accredited since 1997 with no complaints, and may operate under a name we did not find. This is a register observation, not a finding of wrongdoing.

Why this list stops at 4. Two of the certified firms that scored into the top five were set aside for the reasons above, and the next firm down the pool is not one our research pass covered, so we rank the four we could verify rather than promote a firm we have not checked.

The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page. 11 December 2021: the overnight EF3?

At 1:09 in the morning of 11 December 2021 an EF3 tornado touched down in rural southwest Warren County and tracked northeast through Bowling Green, 25.7 miles in the county and another 3.6 into Edmonson, up to a quarter of a mile wide. Kentucky licenses no roofers, but Bowling Green and Warren County do, through a joint licensing board with a public list and a consumer warning list. Nine certified firms appear in the directory; after removing those that fail our checks, four are ranked.

Is wind or hail the bigger risk to a roof in Bowling Green?

Wind, by a wide margin. The Bowling Green, KY statistical area logged 260 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports against 53 hail reports of an inch or more between 2016 and 2025. Wind damage shows up at the rake, ridge and edge rather than across the field of the roof, so the fastening schedule and edge detail matter more here than the impact rating of the shingle.

Why is Conyer Roofing & Exteriors LLC not on this list?

Excluded on service area. It is based in Portland, Tennessee, and its website describes a Greater Nashville and northern Middle Tennessee business, naming no Kentucky town. It does hold a current Bowling Green-Warren County contractor licence, so it may work here, but it publishes no coverage of the metro..
