Best Roofers in Elizabethtown, KY: Why None Is Ranked, and Who We Verified

No Elizabethtown roofer clears our certified ranking floor. The contractors we verified individually against local licence and manufacturer records, and the checks to run before you hire. No paid placement.

Best Roofers in Elizabethtown, KY: Why None Is Ranked, and Who We Verified

Short answer: As of October 2026 no roofing contractor in the Elizabethtown metro qualifies for our certified ranking. GAF’s directory lists one certified firm here with enough reviews, Hyper Roofing, and we excluded it because its own website advertises on-staff public adjusters who negotiate claims, which Kentucky’s roofing law bars contractors from doing. So The Roofing Brief ranks none here. Instead this page lists five Hardin and LaRue County roofers we checked individually, each an Owens Corning network contractor with no BBB complaints in three years.

The Roofing Brief searched the GAF certification registry across the principal cities of the Elizabethtown, KY statistical area. No roofing contractor based inside the metro clears the evidence floor this ranking applies, which is manufacturer certification plus at least five independent customer reviews, so this page ranks nobody rather than pad a list. What it does instead is set out the contractors we could verify individually against the credential that actually exists here. Elizabethtown and Radcliff sit beside Fort Knox, and their roofs are tested by wind more than hail: tornadoes and damaging winds outnumber hail reports almost three to one, from the 2018 Rineyville EF1 that vaulted a porch roof over a house to the 2023 EF2 near Cecilia that peeled another roof back. Kentucky licenses no roofers but polices insurance-funded roofing closely. The one certified firm in the directory markets claim negotiation that Kentucky law bars, so none is ranked.

The conditions an Elizabethtown roof has to be specified for

Kentucky has no state roofing licence, exam or board; a 2026 bill to create one stalled in committee in January. What the state regulates is the insurance-funded job. You may cancel before midnight on the fifth business day after your insurer says in writing that all or part of the claim is not covered, and the roofer may take no advance payment until that period runs. A contractor may not offer to pay or rebate your deductible, give you anything worth over $100, negotiate your claim, or market itself as a claims or insurance specialist.

New rules took effect on 15 July 2026. A roofer on an insurance job may no longer be financially connected to a public adjuster, appraiser or claims specialist, and the former exemption for licensed public adjusters is gone. After a declared emergency that destroys property, the Attorney General can now order storm contractors in the area to register, show insurance and post a certificate on site, and door-to-door selling is banned there for 90 days without the owner’s approval. Violations carry $5,000 civil penalties and double damages.

The City of Elizabethtown runs its own building inspection programme covering single-family homes. Permit fees run on cost: none up to $9,999, $25 to $19,999, $50 to $34,999 and $100 to $49,999, with a 50 percent penalty for starting work first. Every business in the city needs a $25 business licence and pays a 1.95 percent net profits tax. Hardin County requires permits for new construction and remodelling and lists roofs at $100.

Across 2016 to 2025 Hardin and LaRue counties logged 37 hail reports, the largest 2.75 inches near Radcliff in April 2022, 96 damaging wind reports and 13 tornado segments, most with no damage estimate recorded. Winter matters too: half an inch of ice coated Elizabethtown, Vine Grove and Radcliff in February 2021. About half the homes in Elizabethtown and Radcliff are rented, against one in five in LaRue County.

Elizabethtown roofers we checked

No roofer serving the metro qualifies for our certified ranking, so none is ranked. These five are based in Hardin or LaRue County, are Owens Corning network contractors and show no BBB complaints in three years. Kentucky has no roofing licence to check. They are not scored and we are not recommending them.

Roof replacement and repair in Elizabethtown, KY

Short answer: No firm is ranked in Elizabethtown; the one certified firm in the directory markets claim negotiation that Kentucky law bars. Verified alternatives in Hardin or LaRue County include D & C Premier Exteriors, All-Tite Roofing, Above & Beyond Roofing, Everything Exterior & Roofing and Vessel Brothers Roofing. The rule that matters most: on an insurance job you may cancel before midnight on the fifth business day after a written claim denial.

Wind, more than hail, decides roof work around Elizabethtown and Radcliff. Across 2016 to 2025 Hardin and LaRue counties logged 96 damaging wind reports and 13 tornado segments against 37 hail reports, the largest 2.75 inches near Radcliff in April 2022. On 31 October 2018 an EF1 near Rineyville damaged roofs and siding on several homes and vaulted a porch roof over a house, and on 25 June 2023 an EF2 near Cecilia peeled a roof back. Winter adds its own load: half an inch of ice coated Elizabethtown, Vine Grove and Radcliff in February 2021.

The City of Elizabethtown runs its own building inspection programme covering single-family homes, with permit fees based on cost: none up to $9,999, $25 to $19,999, $50 to $34,999 and $100 to $49,999, plus a 50 percent penalty for starting work first. Hardin County lists roofs at $100. Under the Kentucky Residential Code, R908.3 requires tear-off to the deck for a roof replacement, and R908.3.1.1 bars a recover over a water-soaked or deteriorated roof, over slate, clay, cement or asbestos-cement tile, or over two or more layers. Every business in the city also needs a $25 business licence.

Kentucky has no state roofing licence, but it polices the insurance-funded job closely. You may cancel before midnight on the fifth business day after your insurer denies all or part of the claim in writing, and the roofer may take no advance payment until that period runs. A contractor may not offer to pay or rebate your deductible, give you anything worth over $100, negotiate your claim, or market itself as a claims or insurance specialist, and since 15 July 2026 it may not be financially connected to a public adjuster, appraiser or claims specialist. Violations carry $5,000 civil penalties and double damages.

No firm is ranked for Elizabethtown. Among the Owens Corning network contractors we checked, D & C Premier Exteriors on Carriage Hills Ln does residential roofing and siding, All-Tite Roofing in Rineyville and Above & Beyond Roofing in Hodgenville both name Hardin and LaRue counties as their service area, and Vessel Brothers Roofing has traded since 1969, though its older state company record is inactive, so ask which entity signs the contract. Everything Exterior & Roofing holds Owens Corning’s top tier at an Elizabethtown office. None of them is scored or recommended.

The 25 inch-plus hail reports behind an Elizabethtown roof

Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 2 counties of the Elizabethtown, KY statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 37 hail reports, 96 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 13 tornadoes. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $1.5 million; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

The biggest hail to fall on Elizabethtown in a decade

Date Stone size Reported near County
13 April 2022 2.75 in Rogersville Hardin
19 May 2022 2.0 in Colesburg Hardin
19 May 2022 2.0 in Colesburg Hardin
3 April 2018 1.75 in Vine Grove Hardin
28 February 2024 1.75 in Rineyville Hardin
28 February 2024 1.25 in Long View Hardin

The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 13 April 2022 near Rogersville, measured at 2.75 inches. That is baseball sized, comfortably past the point where a roof is written off rather than repaired.

Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 74 knots, about 85 mph, near Mathers Mill on 3 April 2018. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.

Tornadoes. 13 tornadoes touched down in these counties over the decade, the strongest rated EF2 near Franklin Xrds on 25 June 2023.

What the National Weather Service wrote about it

The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 3 April 2018 event near Mathers Mill, reproduced verbatim:

Two miles SW on Hodgenville on Old Sonora Road a large 36×30 foot well built metal barn sustained significant structural damage when the barn broke free from the foundation. Portions of the trusses and 6×6 poles were found 100 yards to the east. Several large pieces of metal roofing and siding were blown eastward up to 1/2 mile and several splintered sections of the roof were impaled in the ground nearby. There was sporadic wind damage eastward from this point and then a concentrated area of damage at Larue County Middle School. Wind gusts lifted a section of the cafeteria roof and threw it about 25 feet downwind to the east. About 100 yards further east from the school, a small storage…

A roof in this metro is built against events like that one, as recorded by the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.

When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in May (36), April (26), March (25). The worst years on record were 2016 (31), 2024 (27), 2018 (18). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Elizabethtown, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.

What to do with this. Hail is not the governing risk in Elizabethtown. Weight your decision toward wind rating, ventilation and flashing detail rather than paying extra for impact-rated shingles.

Wind, not hail: a decade of tornadoes beside Fort Knox

Between 2016 and 2025 NOAA logged 13 tornado segments in Hardin and LaRue counties but only three hail reports of 2 inches or more; wind and tornado reports outnumber hail almost three to one.

On 31 October 2018 a skipping EF1 near Rineyville damaged roofs and siding on several homes, drove a two-by-four through an exterior wall, and tore the front porch off a house on Rineyville Road, vaulting its roof over the house into the back yard. Its $500,000 entry is the largest damage figure in the metro’s decade of hail, wind and tornado records. On 25 June 2023 a narrow EF2 near Cecilia pulled up a wide front porch and peeled a roof back, threw a carport into a field and stripped a brick facade.

The tornadoes keep coming. The December 2021 outbreak that killed 18 people in central Kentucky put an EF1 across Hardin County; in March 2022 another lifted a barn roof away and caused major roof loss to a house near St John Road; and on 30 March 2025 a long-track EF1 ran more than 30 miles across the north side of Fort Knox while a second crossed into west Radcliff.

The record understates the damage: 11 of the 13 tornado segments, including the 2023 EF2, carry no damage estimate. And some wind never enters a county count at all. On 3 March 2023 a historically strong low gusted to 68 mph at a Hardin County Mesonet station and cut power to half a million Kentucky customers, but NOAA filed it by forecast zone.

After a storm here, Kentucky’s 2026 rules are the homeowner’s best tool: the Attorney General can require visiting contractors to register, door-to-door selling can be banned for 90 days, and no roofer may negotiate your claim or tie itself to a public adjuster. Ask for the city business licence and an insurance certificate, and keep the claim in your own hands.

The checks worth making in Elizabethtown

There is no state roofing licence in KY. Kentucky requires no state licence to perform roofing work. The state licenses HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors but not roofers, so there is no state exam and no state board that can discipline a roofing contractor.

House Bill 150, introduced in January 2026 to create a state roofing licence, never advanced beyond committee. Some roofers hold voluntary certification with the Kentucky Roofing Contractors Association, a nonprofit trade body. Since 15 July 2026 the Attorney General can, after a declared state of emergency that destroys property, order roofing, siding, water damage and tree or debris removal contractors working in the area to register with evidence of liability insurance or a bond, and post the certificate at each job site, and contractors may not solicit door to door there for 90 days without the owner’s prior approval (2026 Ky. Acts ch. 54). Kentucky also regulates the insurance-funded job: under KRS 367.620 to 367.628 you may cancel before midnight on the fifth business day after the insurer denies all or part of the claim in writing, the contractor may take no advance payment until that period has run, and it may not offer to pay or rebate your deductible, give you anything worth more than $100, negotiate your claim, market itself as a claims or insurance specialist, or, for contracts from 15 July 2026, be financially connected to a public adjuster, appraiser or insurance business on the job.

That absence is the most important fact on this page. Where a state issues no credential, a manufacturer certification that can be revoked is the only quality signal a homeowner can actually check, which is why this ranking is built on certification rather than star ratings.

Check here: KRS 367.628 (Kentucky Legislature). Licensing happens locally where it exists at all, so ask the city or county which contractor licence applies, and get the answer in writing. On an insurance job, check the contract for the cancellation notice and refuse anyone who offers to cover your deductible or to deal with your insurer for you.

Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.

  1. Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
  2. Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
  3. Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
  4. Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.

How these Elizabethtown rankings were produced

Every contractor in the Elizabethtown, KY pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 0 certified contractors, of whom 0 hold President’s Club standing and 0 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 5.0. No contractor cleared the floor, so the alternatives listed above were instead researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. Where that research turned up something awkward it is on the page, and no placement was paid for.

Set aside in Elizabethtown. A contractor that would otherwise have scored into the top no was removed for the reason stated. The score is computed from public data, but where the research pass finds evidence undermining an input to that score, the score is set aside.

  • Hyper Roofing, which scored 77.0: Excluded on sales practice. The Elizabethtown arm of a Maryland brand, trading as the assumed name of a Kentucky company formed in 2024, BBB A+ with no complaints. Its website advertises licensed public insurance adjusters on staff who negotiate claims for homeowners, and Kentucky’s roofing law bars contractors from negotiating a claim and, since July 2026, from any financial connection to a public adjuster. That is our reading of its own marketing, not a finding by any authority. Its BBB service area also omits Hardin and LaRue counties.

The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page. Elizabethtown roofing questions, answered

Who are the best roofers in Elizabethtown, KY?

No Elizabethtown roofer qualifies for our certified ranking, so The Roofing Brief ranks none. It checked five local roofers instead: D & C Premier Exteriors, All-Tite Roofing, Above & Beyond Roofing, Everything Exterior & Roofing and Vessel Brothers Roofing. Kentucky licenses no roofers, so check insurance and the city business licence, and refuse any roofer who offers to negotiate your claim or cover your deductible.

What is the 25% rule for roofing in Kentucky?

Kentucky has no statewide 25 percent roof rule, and its residential code sets no percentage trigger for partial repairs. A full roof after partial storm damage usually comes from the insurance matching regulation, 806 KAR 12:095, which requires the insurer to replace all items in the area when replaced items do not reasonably match. The Department of Insurance’s Advisory Opinion 2023-08 reads ‘area’ as the entire roof, though that opinion is not legally binding.

Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Elizabethtown?

The City of Elizabethtown runs its own building inspection programme covering single-family homes, with fees based on job cost: none up to $9,999, then $25 to $100 up to $49,999. Starting work first adds a 50 percent penalty. Outside the city, Hardin County lists roofs at $100.

Can a roofer pay my insurance deductible in Kentucky?

No. Kentucky bars a contractor from offering to pay or rebate your deductible, giving you anything worth over $100, or negotiating your claim. Violations carry $5,000 civil penalties and double damages.

What changed for storm roofers in Kentucky in July 2026?

From 15 July 2026 a roofer on an insurance job may not be financially connected to a public adjuster, appraiser or claims specialist. After a declared emergency that destroys property, the Attorney General can order storm contractors in the area to register, show insurance and post a certificate on site, and door-to-door selling is banned there for 90 days without the owner’s approval.

How many certified roofing contractors serve Elizabethtown?

0 contractors on the GAF certification registry serve the principal cities of the Elizabethtown, KY statistical area as of October 2026, of which 0 hold President’s Club status.

How much damaging hail does Elizabethtown get?

The Elizabethtown, KY statistical area recorded 25 hail reports of 1 inch or larger and 3 of 2 inches or larger between 2016 and 2025 in the NOAA Storm Events Database. The largest hailstone reported measured 2.75 inches.

Did any contractor pay to appear on this list?

No. The Roofing Brief takes no placement fees, no lead fees and no affiliate commission from any roofing contractor. Ranking comes entirely from the published formula applied to public registry data, followed by an individual research pass on every verified alternative listed.

What was the worst hailstorm in Elizabethtown in the last ten years?

The largest hailstone logged by the National Weather Service in the Elizabethtown, KY statistical area between 2016 and 2025 measured 2.75 inches, reported near Rogersville on 13 April 2022. That is baseball sized, comfortably past the point where a roof is written off rather than repaired. Across the decade the metro recorded 37 hail reports. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $1.5 million; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

When is the worst time of year for roof damage in Elizabethtown?

Severe-weather reports in the Elizabethtown, KY statistical area cluster in May, April, March, on the NOAA record for 2016 to 2025. Outside those months local crews are not triaging storm damage, so lead times are shorter and scheduling is easier.

Do roofers need a licence in KY?

What should I check before hiring a roofer in Elizabethtown?

Licensing happens locally where it exists at all, so ask the city or county which contractor licence applies, and get the answer in writing. On an insurance job, check the contract for the cancellation notice and refuse anyone who offers to cover your deductible or to deal with your insurer for you.

Wind, not hail: a decade of tornadoes beside Fort Knox?

Between 2016 and 2025 NOAA logged 13 tornado segments in Hardin and LaRue counties but only three hail reports of 2 inches or more; wind and tornado reports outnumber hail almost three to one.

Is Elizabethtown a hard market to find a good roofer in?

Elizabethtown and Radcliff sit beside Fort Knox, and their roofs are tested by wind more than hail: tornadoes and damaging winds outnumber hail reports almost three to one, from the 2018 Rineyville EF1 that vaulted a porch roof over a house to the 2023 EF2 near Cecilia that peeled another roof back. Kentucky licenses no roofers but polices insurance-funded roofing closely. The one certified firm in the directory markets claim negotiation that Kentucky law bars, so none is ranked.

Is wind or hail the bigger risk to a roof in Elizabethtown?

Wind, by a wide margin. The Elizabethtown, KY statistical area logged 96 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports against 25 hail reports of an inch or more between 2016 and 2025. Wind damage shows up at the rake, ridge and edge rather than across the field of the roof, so the fastening schedule and edge detail matter more here than the impact rating of the shingle.

Why is Hyper Roofing not on this list?

Excluded on sales practice. Its BBB service area also omits Hardin and LaRue counties..
