Short answer: As of October 2026, the five highest-scoring roofing contractors in the Gainesville, GA metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score are Accent Roofing Service (93.7), ProRoofing (89.4), Hopewell Roofing (86.4), Skyline Contracting (83.2), DOM Roofing & Restoration (81.3). Each holds a certification we verified on the manufacturer’s own register, every rating was corroborated elsewhere, and placement on this page is not for sale.
The Roofing Brief scored 20 certified roofing contractors serving the Gainesville metro on a published, reproducible formula, then researched each of the top five individually to confirm its record. Gainesville appears twice in NOAA’s list of the 25 deadliest tornadoes in American history, for 1903 and for 1936, when 203 people died in a city of about 10,000. Georgia still licenses no roofers, and the certified market serving Hall County is mostly based down the I-985 corridor in Gwinnett and Forsyth. Twenty-one certified firms appear in the directory; one of the top six publishes no Gainesville coverage and is excluded, so five are ranked, only one of them headquartered in Gainesville.
Wind, terrain and the Gainesville, GA housing stock
Georgia does not license roofers. O.C.G.A. 43-41-17(f) treats roofing as specialty work outside the residential and general contractor licence, so no state exam, bond or recovery fund stands behind a roofing-only firm, and the state’s own consumer guidance tells homeowners to check the local business licence instead. Every firm ranked here is checked against BBB records and its own published service area, not a state register, because there is none.
The insurance-claim contract is regulated. Under O.C.G.A. 10-1-393.12 you may cancel a roofing contract paid from insurance before midnight on the fifth business day after the insurer’s written notice that all or part of the claim is not covered; the roofer must give you a bold notice of that right and a detachable cancellation form, and may not take payment before the window closes. A roofer may not represent you or negotiate your claim, or advertise that it will, unless it is a licensed public adjuster. Georgia has no statute against waiving or rebating your deductible.
Permit rules differ by jurisdiction. The City of Gainesville lists roofing repairs and reroofing among the projects that need a building permit. Unincorporated Hall County’s own pages conflict: its inspections FAQ says stripping shingles and replacing them with new shingles or metal needs no permit unless decking or structure changes, while its permit guide lists roof replacement as permit work. Ask the roofer which applies at your address, and get the answer in writing.
The modern storm record is about wind. Across 2016 to 2025 Hall County logged 95 thunderstorm wind reports and 9 hail reports, all an inch or more and the largest 1.75 inches, with golf-ball hail causing about $1.8 million of damage on both 21 March 2017 and 24 April 2021. On 11 January 2020 wind damaged roofs across a swath at least 15 miles wide from Oakwood to Clermont. The county’s median home was built in 1996, but 60.8 percent of homes inside the city are rented, and 8.3 percent of the county’s housing is manufactured homes.

1. Accent Roofing Service — TRB Score 93.7
Accent Roofing Service is based in Lawrenceville, GA, in business since 1989, led by Phillip Scribbins, management contact (BBB), BBB accredited since 12 October 2012, A+ rating, three complaints closed in three years, and holds President’s Club standing on the GAF certification registry.

| Adjusted rating | 40.0 | 40 |
| Review corpus depth | 15.0 | 15 |
| Metro proximity | 3.7 | 10 |
| Total | 93.7 | 100 |
Independently corroborated:
- Accredited since 12 October 2012 with an A+ rating, business start 1989, about 45 employees, three complaints closed in three years.. BBB business profile
- Dedicated Gainesville, Flowery Branch and Braselton service pages; family owned and veteran founded.. Company Gainesville page
What they actually do. Residential shingle roofing, repairs, metal, skylights and gutters.
Why it ranks here. The largest consumer record we have seen in Georgia: a perfect 5.0 across 3,840 reviews, President’s Club certification, and more than three decades of trading since 1989, with dedicated Gainesville, Flowery Branch and Braselton pages.
Best fit for: South Hall homeowners who want a large, long-established firm.
What we would want clarified. It is based in Lawrenceville, Gwinnett County, about 25 miles away, and serves the whole Atlanta region, so ask about scheduling after a regional storm. BBB shows three complaints closed in three years, more than the other ranked firms; we did not see their content. BBB names a manager rather than an owner. Certification tier and reviews are unverified. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.
Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (770) 277-4869, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.
2. ProRoofing — TRB Score 89.4
ProRoofing is based in Cumming, GA, led by Not established; BBB lists sales manager Cole Nickell, BBB accredited since 27 June 2022, A+ rating, one complaint closed in three years, and holds President’s Club standing on the GAF certification registry.
| Score component | Points | Max |

Independently corroborated:
- ProRoofing, LLC, Cumming, accredited since 27 June 2022 with an A+ rating, incorporated 27 April 2022, one complaint closed in three years.. BBB business profile
- Lists services across Georgia, North Carolina and Alabama, with Cumming, Gainesville and Flowery Branch among the Georgia locations.. Company service area page
What they actually do. Residential roofing and insurance storm work.
Why it ranks here. A perfect 5.0 across 179 reviews with President’s Club certification, from a Cumming roofer about 18 miles away that lists Gainesville and Flowery Branch in its service area.
Best fit for: Storm replacement work where a large multi-state crew is an advantage.
What we would want clarified. It operates across three states, and its Gainesville coverage is confirmed only from a search-indexed copy of its site, which blocks direct access. BBB gives a 2003 start date, but the company was incorporated in 2022, and we could not identify an owner. It is a different business from Pro Roofing and Siding. Certification tier and reviews are unverified. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.
Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (832) 558-7663, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.
3. Hopewell Roofing — TRB Score 86.4
Hopewell Roofing is based in Cumming, GA, in business since 2009, led by Andy Morrison, owner and CEO, BBB accredited since 6 September 2013, A+ rating, no complaints in three years, and holds President’s Club standing on the GAF certification registry.
| Score component | Points | Max |
|---|---|---|
| Certification tier | 35 | 35 |
| Adjusted rating | 36.4 | 40 |
| Review corpus depth | 9.6 | 15 |

| Total | 86.4 | 100 |
Independently corroborated:
- Hopewell Roofing & Restoration, Cumming, accredited since 6 September 2013 with an A+ rating, business start 18 September 2009, no complaints closed in three years.. BBB business profile
- A dedicated Gainesville service page; the owner founded the firm in 2009.. Company Gainesville page
What they actually do. Residential roofing, gutters, siding and painting.
Why it ranks here. An owner-run roofer founded in 2009, with the date agreeing across BBB and its own site, BBB accredited since 2013 with no complaints in three years, and a 4.9 across 193 reviews with President’s Club certification.
Best fit for: Homeowners who weight a clean complaint record and a long accreditation.
What we would want clarified. It is based in Cumming, Forsyth County, about 18 miles from Gainesville rather than in Hall County. Georgia issues no licence to check. Certification tier and reviews are unverified. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.
Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (678) 771-5372, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.
4. Skyline Contracting — TRB Score 83.2
Skyline Contracting is based in Gainesville, GA, in business since 2012, led by Wes Hall, President, BBB accredited since 22 January 2025, A+ rating, no complaints in three years, and holds Master Elite standing on the GAF certification registry.
| Score component | Points | Max |

| Adjusted rating | 39.6 | 40 |
| Review corpus depth | 9.6 | 15 |
| Metro proximity | 10.0 | 10 |
| Total | 83.2 | 100 |
Independently corroborated:
- Skyline Contracting, LLC, Academy Street, Gainesville, accredited since 22 January 2025 with an A+ rating, business start 16 February 2012, no complaints.. BBB business profile
- Serves the Gainesville metro including Oakwood, Flowery Branch, Clermont, Lula and Braselton.. Company service area page
What they actually do. Residential and commercial roofing, gutters, siding and windows.
Why it ranks here. The only firm in the pool actually headquartered in Gainesville, on Academy Street downtown, run by a Gainesville native since 2012, with a perfect 5.0 across 191 reviews and Master Elite certification.
Best fit for: Gainesville and Hall County homeowners who want a local firm.
What we would want clarified. Its BBB accreditation is recent, from January 2025, and its site’s claim of more than 15 years slightly overstates a 2012 start. Older listings show a different Gainesville address. Certification tier and reviews are unverified. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.
Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (770) 530-3095, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.
5. DOM Roofing & Restoration — TRB Score 81.3
DOM Roofing & Restoration is based in Sugar Hill, GA, in business since 2019, led by Oxana Duhlicher, owner (BBB), BBB accredited since 29 June 2019, A+ rating, no complaints in three years, and holds Master Elite standing on the GAF certification registry.

| Certification tier | 24 | 35 |
| Adjusted rating | 39.9 | 40 |
| Review corpus depth | 12.0 | 15 |
| Metro proximity | 5.4 | 10 |
| Total | 81.3 | 100 |
Independently corroborated:
- Accredited since 29 June 2019 with an A+ rating, business start 19 January 2019, about nine employees, no complaints closed in three years.. BBB business profile
- Dedicated Gainesville roof replacement page saying it works in Gainesville every week; veteran-owned family business.. Company Gainesville page
What they actually do. Residential roof replacement and repair, storm and insurance restoration.
Why it ranks here. A perfect 5.0 across 748 reviews, the second deepest record in the pool, from a veteran-owned family firm in Sugar Hill with a clean BBB file and a dedicated Gainesville page.
Best fit for: Homeowners who want a deep recent review record on a replacement.
What we would want clarified. Its Gainesville page says its storm process includes handling carrier negotiations for homeowners. Georgia’s O.C.G.A. 10-1-393.12 bars a roofer from negotiating a homeowner’s claim, or advertising that it will, unless it is a licensed public adjuster; we did not check whether anyone at the firm holds that licence, and we found no complaint or enforcement action. Ask before relying on it for your claim. It is based in Gwinnett County and trading since 2019. Certification tier and reviews are unverified. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.
Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (678) 790-7086, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.

The 95 wind reports that shape a Gainesville, GA roof
Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 1 county of the Gainesville, GA statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 9 hail reports, 95 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 4 tornadoes. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $7.8 million; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

The biggest hail to fall on Gainesville in a decade
| Date | Stone size | Reported near | County |
|---|---|---|---|
| 21 March 2017 | 1.75 in | Bellton | Hall |
| 24 April 2021 | 1.75 in | Murrayville | Hall |
| 2 May 2025 | 1.25 in | Gnesville Cotton Mil | Hall |
| 9 May 2024 | 1.25 in | Yonah | Hall |
| 5 April 2017 | 1.0 in | New Holland | Hall |
| 5 May 2020 | 1.0 in | Murrayville | Hall |
The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 21 March 2017 near Bellton, measured at 1.75 inches. That is ping-pong-ball sized, enough to bruise asphalt shingles and shorten a roof’s life without necessarily looking dramatic from the ground.
Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 74 knots, about 85 mph, near Murrayville on 7 June 2025. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.
Tornadoes. 4 tornadoes touched down in these counties over the decade, the strongest rated EF1 near Brookton on 19 April 2019.
What the National Weather Service wrote about it
The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 7 June 2025 event near Murrayville, reproduced verbatim:
Widespread wind damage swath stretching across central Hall county through Gainesville and continuing eastward. Wind damage indicative of over 80mph wind gusts.
That is what the specification has to anticipate here, written up by the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.
When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in June (32), July (19), May (13). The worst years on record were 2024 (25), 2025 (25), 2023 (18). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Gainesville, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.
Source: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, Storm Events Database, county-level detail files 2016 to 2025, filtered to the counties of this statistical area by The Roofing Brief. Damage figures are as reported to the NWS and undercount insured losses.
What to do with this. Hail is not the governing risk in Gainesville. Weight your decision toward wind rating, ventilation and flashing detail rather than paying extra for impact-rated shingles.
The tornado city
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center keeps a list of the 25 deadliest tornadoes in the United States. Gainesville is on it twice. The tornado of 6 April 1936 ranks fifth, with 203 deaths, one day after Tupelo, Mississippi lost 216. The tornado of 1 June 1903 is tied seventeenth, with 98 deaths; the center cautions that early counts are estimates.
The 1936 tornadoes struck shortly before nine in the morning. Witnesses described at least two funnels entering the southwest of the city and moving northeast through the commercial district, then on to the mill village of New Holland, where nearly a hundred homes and the Pacolet Manufacturing plant were destroyed. Fourteen blocks of the business district were reduced to debris, fires broke out across the Public Square, and rescuers dynamited buildings to stop them spreading. At the Cooper Pants Factory, a two-storey garment plant at West Broad and Maple Streets, the building collapsed and burned, and sixty employees died.
A Red Cross report counted more than 500 homes destroyed and nearly 750 damaged, with an estimated 1,600 people injured, in a city of nearly 10,000; the state’s digital archive notes it is unclear whether those counts included the city’s African American community. President Roosevelt came three days later and spoke from the rear of his train to about 2,000 people.
Eighty years to the day, on 6 April 2016, straight-line winds cut a path 4.6 miles long and half a mile wide from Lake Lanier to Oakwood, damaging more than 53 homes and destroying five, the costliest event in Hall County in the past decade. Tornadoes still come: an EF1 crossed northern Hall in April 2019 and blew the steeple off Dewberry Baptist Church, and another tracked over northern Lake Lanier in May 2025.
We found no evidence that the 1936 disaster shaped Gainesville’s building rules, so we claim no link. The lesson for a roof buyer is simpler. In a county where wind does the damage, ask how the roofer fastens shingles and secures the edges, and in a state with no roofing licence, ask for insurance certificates and check them with the insurer.

Three things to confirm before work starts in Gainesville, GA
There is no state roofing licence in GA. Georgia does not require a state roofing licence. The State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors treats roofers as an exempt specialty contractor, so no state licensure is needed for residential or commercial roofing work.
Some Georgia roofers voluntarily hold a Residential Basic Contractor, Residential Light Commercial or General Contractor licence, or join the Georgia Roofing Contractors Association, purely as a credibility signal. Local city and county licensing requirements still apply.
That absence is the most important fact on this page. Where a state issues no credential, a manufacturer certification that can be revoked is the only quality signal a homeowner can actually check, which is why this ranking is built on certification rather than star ratings.
Check here: Georgia State Licensing Board. Because the state exempts roofers, check the county or municipal business licence where the work will happen, and lean harder on manufacturer certification.
Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.
- Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
- Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
- Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
- Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.
The shape of the Gainesville, GA contractor market
20 certified roofing contractors serve the principal cities of the Gainesville, GA statistical area, of which 3 hold the top President’s Club tier. The pool carries 7,724 customer reviews between them at a mean rating of 4.952. The statistical area had a 2024 population of 221,745, a change of 9.33% against the 2020 census base, per the U.S. Census Bureau Vintage 2024 estimates.

How these Gainesville, GA rankings were produced
Every contractor in the Gainesville, GA pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 20 certified contractors, of whom 3 hold President’s Club standing and 9 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 4.952. The top five were then researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. The findings are printed above whether they flatter the contractor or not, and nobody paid to appear.
Set aside in Gainesville. A contractor that would otherwise have scored into the top five was removed for the reason stated. The score is computed from public data, but where the research pass finds evidence undermining an input to that score, the score is set aside.
- Ameristar Roofing, which scored 83.6: Excluded on service area. It is a Buford-based roofer with a large commercial and multifamily book whose website says only that it serves Atlanta and surrounding communities; we found no published Gainesville or Hall County coverage. It is BBB accredited at A+ with one complaint closed in three years, and its storm page correctly states Georgia’s ban on roofers negotiating claims.
The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page. How many certified roofing contractors serve Gainesville?
20 contractors on the GAF certification registry serve the principal cities of the Gainesville, GA statistical area as of October 2026, of which 3 hold President’s Club status.

Did any contractor pay to appear on this list?
No. The Roofing Brief takes no placement fees, no lead fees and no affiliate commission from any roofing contractor. Ranking comes entirely from the published formula applied to public registry data, followed by an individual research pass on the top five.
What was the worst hailstorm in Gainesville in the last ten years?
The largest hailstone logged by the National Weather Service in the Gainesville, GA statistical area between 2016 and 2025 measured 1.75 inches, reported near Bellton on 21 March 2017. That is ping-pong-ball sized, enough to bruise asphalt shingles and shorten a roof’s life without necessarily looking dramatic from the ground. Across the decade the metro recorded 9 hail reports. Georgia does not require a state roofing licence. Local city and county licensing requirements still apply.
What should I check before hiring a roofer in Gainesville?
Because the state exempts roofers, check the county or municipal business licence where the work will happen, and lean harder on manufacturer certification.
The tornado city?
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center keeps a list of the 25 deadliest tornadoes in the United States. Gainesville is on it twice. The tornado of 6 April 1936 ranks fifth, with 203 deaths, one day after Tupelo, Mississippi lost 216. The tornado of 1 June 1903 is tied seventeenth, with 98 deaths; the center cautions that early counts are estimates.
Is Gainesville a hard market to find a good roofer in?
Gainesville appears twice in NOAA’s list of the 25 deadliest tornadoes in American history, for 1903 and for 1936, when 203 people died in a city of about 10,000. Georgia still licenses no roofers, and the certified market serving Hall County is mostly based down the I-985 corridor in Gwinnett and Forsyth. Twenty-one certified firms appear in the directory; one of the top six publishes no Gainesville coverage and is excluded, so five are ranked, only one of them headquartered in Gainesville.
Is wind or hail the bigger risk to a roof in Gainesville?
Wind, by a wide margin. The Gainesville, GA statistical area logged 95 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports against 9 hail reports of an inch or more between 2016 and 2025. Wind damage shows up at the rake, ridge and edge rather than across the field of the roof, so the fastening schedule and edge detail matter more here than the impact rating of the shingle.
Why is Ameristar Roofing not on this list?
Excluded on service area. It is a Buford-based roofer with a large commercial and multifamily book whose website says only that it serves Atlanta and surrounding communities; we found no published Gainesville or Hall County coverage. It is BBB accredited at A+ with one complaint closed in three years, and its storm page correctly states Georgia’s ban on roofers negotiating claims..
