Read across for your run: a 30-foot gutter draining to one end should sit 3/4 inch lower at the downspout than at the far end. How to set gutter slope, step by step
Setting gutter pitch is a chalk-line job: mark the high end, mark the low end lower by the correct total drop, snap a line, and mount the gutter to that line. The whole method takes about 15 minutes per run before you hang a single bracket, and it is the single step that separates a gutter that drains from one that ponds.
- Find the high end. On a single-downspout run, the high end is the point farthest from the downspout. Measure down from the roof edge or drip edge to where the top back of the gutter will sit, and mark the fascia. This mark should leave the gutter slightly below the shingle line so runoff drops into it, not behind it.

Which way should gutters slope?
