Best Roofers in Lafayette, LA: 2 Certified Contractors, Scored and Verified

The two best roofers in Lafayette, LA, ranked on a published formula and verified individually against BBB, licence and manufacturer records. No paid placement.

Best Roofers in Lafayette, LA: 2 Certified Contractors, Scored and Verified

Short answer: As of September 2026, the two highest-scoring roofing contractors in the Lafayette, LA metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score are Louisiana Pro Roofing (74.8), Elite Roofing & Construction LLC (69.6). Every one holds a manufacturer certification that can be verified independently, every rating below has been corroborated against at least one source outside the certification registry, and no company paid to appear here.

The Roofing Brief scored 2 certified roofing contractors serving the Lafayette metro on a published, reproducible formula, then researched each of the top two individually to confirm its record. Two rule changes landed on Louisiana roofing inside a year, and both apply here. Since 1 August 2025, Act 239 has required a permit for roofing work statewide, and since 1 January 2026, under La. R.S. 37:2156.4, residential roofing of $7,500 or more requires a licence carrying the Residential Roofing or Residential Construction classification, backed by a residential roofing trade examination. That second rule decided this page: the state board’s own records show the third-ranked certified contractor in Acadiana holds a commercial licence only, so it is documented as an exclusion below and this ranking lists two. Both remaining firms were checked against the Louisiana State Licensing Board record rather than against their own marketing.

Hail, codes and what they cost a Lafayette homeowner

Acadiana’s storm record is tornado-heavy for its size. NOAA holds 25 tornadoes across the four metro parishes over the decade, including an EF3 near Richard in Acadia Parish on 17 May 2020, alongside 131 severe wind reports and 61 hail reports, 48 of them an inch or larger. May is the peak month and 2024 the busiest year, with 70 reports.

The event that best describes the local risk was not a tornado. On 11 January 2020 winds estimated at 75 to 100 mph crossed the city of Lafayette, blowing down trees and power lines, dropping trees onto houses, taking the roof off a business and damaging the roofs of at least 15 homes. Straight-line wind of that kind finds the rake and ridge first, which is why fastening pattern and edge metal deserve more attention here than the shingle’s impact rating.

Hurricanes remain the tail risk, and the state’s answer is the FORTIFIED standard: a sealed roof deck, enhanced nailing and stronger edges, verified by an independent evaluator. Louisiana’s Fortify Homes Program awards grants of up to $10,000 by lottery toward a FORTIFIED roof and insurers apply premium discounts to one, so if either matters to you, ask whether the contractor has completed FORTIFIED roofs that passed evaluation.

The permit and the licence are both new enough that some contractors are still catching up, which makes them useful questions. Roofing work has required a permit across Louisiana since August 2025, issued here by Lafayette Consolidated Government or by the relevant parish office, and residential work of $7,500 or more has required the specific roofing classification since January 2026. Check the classification on the state licensing board’s lookup rather than accepting a general licence as proof.

  • The board’s lookup returns Louisiana Professional Contractors LLC at 4801 Johnston St, Lafayette, phone (337) 277-9214, holding an active Residential License RL.07691 (first issued 12 January 2026), an active Commercial License CL.12286 (first issued 10 July 2026) and an active Home Improvement Registration HI.563088 (first issued 14 May 2021); its listed classifications include RESIDENTIAL ROOFING with Marco Baez as qualifying party, and BUILDING CONSTRUCTION, HVAC and ELECTRICAL with Hector Manuel Pulles Jr.. Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors, public contractor licence lookup
  • BBB lists Louisiana Pro Roofing at 4801 Johnston St, Lafayette, LA 70503 as BBB Accredited since 8 November 2024 with an A+ rating, and names Marco Baez and Silvana Ansari as managers.. Better Business Bureau business profile
  • The firm’s own home page carries the line “GAF Master Elite / CertainTeed ShingleMaster / Atlas Pro / BBB Accredited” and lists shingle roofs and replacements, standing-seam and metal systems, TPO, modified bitumen and roof coatings, plus storm-damage and leak repairs, from 4801 Johnston St, Lafayette.. Company website

What they actually do. Residential and commercial roofing across Acadiana: shingle replacements, standing-seam metal, and low-slope TPO, modified bitumen and coatings, plus leak repairs, storm damage and inspections.

Why it ranks here. A clean 5.0 across 99 registry reviews, the deepest and highest-rated customer record in a three-contractor metro, and one of the few Acadiana firms already carrying the new Residential Roofing classification on its state licence.

Best fit for: Lafayette Parish homeowners who want the specific roofing classification Louisiana began requiring in 2026.

What we would want clarified. Its GAF directory entry sits at the entry-level Certified tier while its own website claims GAF Master Elite, and the state board’s records show both its residential (RL.07691) and commercial (CL.12286) licences were first issued in 2026, so the licensed track record behind the company name is short. The same board record flags its general-liability policy (AMWINS, GL202500017636) as expired after 24 September 2026. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (337) 345-0991, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.

2. Elite Roofing & Construction LLC — TRB Score 69.6

Elite Roofing & Construction LLC is based in Breaux Bridge, LA, led by Rudy James Pearce, BBB accredited since 12 September 2008, A+ rating, and holds Certified standing on the GAF certification registry.

Company website

What they actually do. Residential and commercial roofing out of Breaux Bridge for the Lafayette area: roof replacement and repair, storm-damage restoration, and commercial TPO, PVC, metal and coating work.

Why it ranks here. Seventeen years of unbroken A+ BBB accreditation dating to September 2008, with active state licences running back to 2010, by far the longest verifiable record in this metro.

Best fit for: Homeowners weighting a long, quiet record, and jobs where the building classification matters as much as the roofing one.

What we would want clarified. Its own website names no owner, gives no founding year and publishes no licence number, so both the principal and the licences are only traceable through the state board and BBB. Its state classifications are BUILDING CONSTRUCTION and RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION rather than the dedicated Residential Roofing classification, and the Owens Corning Preferred Contractor status that appears in third-party directory listings could not be confirmed on any Owens Corning page. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (337) 345-4313, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.

The 48 hail reports behind a Lafayette roof

Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 4 counties of the Lafayette, LA statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 61 hail reports, 131 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 25 tornadoes. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $4.0 million; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

The biggest hail to fall on Lafayette in a decade

Date Stone size Reported near County
3 May 2017 2.75 in Pecan Is Vermilion
5 March 2024 2.0 in Richard Acadia
12 May 2024 2.0 in Evangeline Acadia
1 May 2016 1.75 in Ossun Lafayette
3 May 2017 1.75 in Intracoastal City Vermilion
5 June 2022 1.75 in Isle Labbe St. Martin

The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 3 May 2017 near Pecan Is, measured at 2.75 inches. That is baseball sized, comfortably past the point where a roof is written off rather than repaired.

Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 100 knots, about 115 mph, near Richard on 3 May 2017. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.

Tornadoes. 25 tornadoes touched down in these counties over the decade, the strongest rated EF3 near Richard on 17 May 2020.

What the National Weather Service wrote about it

The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 11 January 2020 event near Scott, reproduced verbatim:

Scattered trees and power lines were blown down across the city of Lafayette. Several homes had trees land on them. One business lost its roof. At least 15 homes had roof damage. Winds were estimated at 75 to 100 mph. The path of the wind damage was 5 miles long and 2400 yards wide.

A roof in this metro is built against events like that one, as recorded by the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.

When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in May (84), April (43), March (20). The worst years on record were 2024 (70), 2017 (33), 2016 (19). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Lafayette, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.

Source: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, Storm Events Database, county-level detail files 2016 to 2025, filtered to the counties of this statistical area by The Roofing Brief. Damage figures are as reported to the NWS and undercount insured losses.

What to do with this. Hail is not the governing risk in Lafayette. Weight your decision toward wind rating, ventilation and flashing detail rather than paying extra for impact-rated shingles.

Before you sign anything in Lafayette

Licensing is required in LA. Louisiana requires a roofing-specific licence classification. Under La. R.S. 37:2156.4(A), on and after 1 January 2026 any person who advertises, solicits, undertakes, offers or submits a price, bid, quote or estimate to construct, modify, repair or maintain any portion of a roofing system on a residential structure worth $7,500 or more must hold the classification of Residential Roofing or Residential Construction. Unusually for this trade, subsection B requires a residential roofing contractor to pass the residential roofing trade examination, so unlike Alabama or New Jersey this is a competency licence and not merely a registration.

Residential roofing is a subclassification of residential construction, and Act 757 of 2026, effective 1 August 2026, added subsection D extending the rule to any residential structure containing no more than four dwelling units. The penalties are real. Under R.S. 37:2163 it is unlawful to act as a contractor without an active licence, and a violation is a misdemeanour carrying a fine of up to $500 per day of violation, or three months in prison, or both. Where an unlicensed person causes harm or damage exceeding $300, the penalty rises to a fine of between $500 and $5,000, or imprisonment with or without hard labour for between six months and five years, or both. R.S. 37:2163(A)(2) separately makes it unlawful for any contractor, licensed or unlicensed, to publish or circulate a misleading or false claim about a person’s licence or classification in any medium, including digital platforms.

Check here: Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors. Check the classification itself on the board’s lookup, not just that a licence exists, because the statute names two classifications specifically. It is worth knowing that misrepresenting a licence or classification in advertising is itself unlawful in Louisiana under R.S. 37:2163(A)(2), so what a contractor claims about its credentials on its own website is a statement the state can act on.

Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.

  1. Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
  2. Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
  3. Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
  4. Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.

How these Lafayette rankings were produced

Every contractor in the Lafayette, LA pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 2 certified contractors, of whom 0 hold President’s Club standing and 0 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 4.833. The top two were then researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. Where that research turned up something awkward it is on the page, and no placement was paid for.

Set aside in Lafayette. A contractor that would otherwise have scored into the top two was removed for the reason stated. The score is computed from public data, but where the research pass finds evidence undermining an input to that score, the score is set aside.

  • Grizzly Commercial Roofing, which scored 60.3: would have ranked third on score, but the Louisiana State Licensing Board record shows only a Commercial License carrying a Roofing and Sheet Metal, Siding classification and no residential licence at all. Since 1 January 2026 residential roofing of $7,500 or more in Louisiana requires a Residential Roofing or Residential Construction classification, so this contractor is not set up for the homeowner re-roof this page is about. The Roofing Brief makes no finding about the quality of its commercial work, which is what it is licensed and certified for

The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page. What should I check before hiring a roofer in Lafayette?

Check the classification itself on the board’s lookup, not just that a licence exists, because the statute names two classifications specifically. It is worth knowing that misrepresenting a licence or classification in advertising is itself unlawful in Louisiana under R.S. 37:2163(A)(2), so what a contractor claims about its credentials on its own website is a statement the state can act on.

Is Lafayette a hard market to find a good roofer in?

Is wind or hail the bigger risk to a roof in Lafayette?

Wind, by a wide margin. The Lafayette, LA statistical area logged 131 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports against 48 hail reports of an inch or more between 2016 and 2025. Wind damage shows up at the rake, ridge and edge rather than across the field of the roof, so the fastening schedule and edge detail matter more here than the impact rating of the shingle.

Why is Grizzly Commercial Roofing not on this list?

Would have ranked third on score, but the Louisiana State Licensing Board record shows only a Commercial License carrying a Roofing and Sheet Metal, Siding classification and no residential licence at all. Since 1 January 2026 residential roofing of $7,500 or more in Louisiana requires a Residential Roofing or Residential Construction classification, so this contractor is not set up for the homeowner re-roof this page is about. The Roofing Brief makes no finding about the quality of its commercial work, which is what it is licensed and certified for.
