Best Roofers in Dallas, TX: 5 Certified Contractors, Scored and Verified

Short answer: As of September 2026, the five highest-scoring roofing contractors in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score are Results Roofing (96.0), Touchstone Roofing (90.4), Kidd Roofing (89.1), Elevated Roofing (88.7), Arrowhead Roofing (88.3). Each is certified by a manufacturer whose register we checked by hand, each rating has been tested against a source outside that register, and nobody bought a place on this page.

The Roofing Brief scored 38 certified roofing contractors serving the Dallas metro on a published, reproducible formula, then researched each of the top five individually to confirm its record. Dallas-Fort Worth is the hail capital of this programme. Its ten-year NOAA record holds 2,015 hail reports, 283 of them two inches or larger, and $6.1 billion in reported property damage, more than ten times the total of any other metro we have profiled. June 2023 alone brought a 5-inch stone at Mansfield on 12 June and a 5.9-inch stone at Sanger three days later. Texas issues no roofing licence, so in the market that most needs a vetting system there is no state one, and after every major storm the region fills with out-of-town crews. The certified field is deep in compensation: 38 contractors, 16 at President’s Club, and a metro mean rating of 4.90. Results Roofing of Carrollton leads with 1,802 registry reviews at a perfect 5.0.

Quick picks for Dallas:

  • Results Roofing: best overall (TRB Score 96.0). Verified services: roof replacement, storm damage work.
  • Touchstone Roofing: best for Frisco and Plano (TRB Score 90.4). Verified services: commercial roofing.
  • Kidd Roofing: best long-established firm (TRB Score 89.1). Verified services: commercial roofing.
  • Elevated Roofing: best large Collin County firm (TRB Score 88.7). Verified services: commercial roofing.
  • Arrowhead Roofing: best for northeast Tarrant County (TRB Score 88.3). Verified services: storm damage work.

Hail, codes and what they cost a Dallas homeowner

With no state licence, the City of Dallas is where the paperwork starts. Its construction code administration chapter exempts re-roofing of a single-family or two-family dwelling from permit only when the work is worth $500 or less, which means every real roof replacement needs a permit, and contractors pulling permits must be registered with the city. Suburban cities across Collin, Denton and Tarrant counties run their own permit and registration systems. Ask for the permit number, and treat a contractor who suggests skipping it as a contractor to skip.

Hail size here justifies a different roof specification. Of the 2,015 hail reports over the decade, 1,662 were an inch or larger, and March is the peak month, followed by April and May. A UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated shingle, or a stone-coated or heavy-gauge metal roof, is worth pricing on every quote, and it is worth asking your insurer what premium credit it gives for one and what documentation it wants at installation. Keep the product certificate and photographs of the installation with your policy papers.

Tornadoes add to the hail. On 20 October 2019 an EF3 tornado formed in northwest Dallas and tracked east-northeast across the city, crossing Interstate 35E and damaging commercial and residential areas along its path; it became the costliest tornado on record in Texas, at an estimated $1.5 billion. On 25 May 2024 an EF3 with estimated winds of 165 mph struck homes near Celina in Collin County, and on 4 March 2025 straight-line winds tore roof decking from homes in Haltom City. 2023 was the busiest year in the record, with 459 severe reports.

The storm-chasing problem is real in this market. After a large hail event, door-to-door crews offer free inspections and ask homeowners to sign contingency agreements before an adjuster has visited. Texas law lets you cancel certain contracts signed at home within three days, but the safer course is not to sign anything until your insurer’s adjuster has produced a scope of loss. Every contractor below has a permanent Dallas-Fort Worth address; ask any other company for one, and check how long it has been at it.

What we would want clarified. Founded in 2019, so its record is built on volume over a short period. Roof replacement and repair in Dallas, TX

Short answer: For a Dallas roof replacement or storm damage job, Results Roofing of Carrollton is the strongest overall pick, with 1,802 registry reviews at 5.0. Touchstone Roofing suits Frisco and Plano, Kidd Roofing has operated since 1982, Elevated Roofing is a large Collin County firm, and Arrowhead Roofing covers northeast Tarrant County. The key rule: Dallas exempts re-roofing from permit only when work is worth $500 or less, so a full replacement needs a permit.

The ten-year NOAA record for Dallas-Fort Worth holds 2,015 hail reports, 283 of them two inches or larger, and $6.1 billion in reported property damage, more than ten times the total of any other metro we have profiled. March is the peak month, followed by April and May. June 2023 brought a 5-inch stone at Mansfield on 12 June and a 5.9-inch stone at Sanger three days later. The record also shows 922 wind reports and 96 tornadoes. The EF3 tornado of 20 October 2019 crossed Dallas and became the costliest on record in Texas, at an estimated $1.5 billion, and on 4 March 2025 straight-line winds tore roof decking from homes in Haltom City.

Texas issues no roofing licence, so the paperwork starts with the city. The City of Dallas construction code administration chapter exempts re-roofing of a single-family or two-family dwelling from permit only when the work is worth $500 or less, and contractors pulling permits must be registered with the city. Suburban cities in Collin, Denton and Tarrant counties run their own systems. Under Texas Local Government Code 214.212, the International Residential Code as it existed on May 1, 2012 is the minimum inside city limits, and cities may adopt newer editions. Reroofing rules, including tearing off to the deck when the old roof is water soaked or deteriorated or already has two layers, come from your city’s adopted code.

Insurance and contract rules shape how a storm claim should proceed. Under Business and Commerce Code 27.02, a contractor who promises to pay, waive or rebate your insurance deductible commits a Class B misdemeanour, and a claim-funded contract of $1,000 or more must carry a boldface deductible notice. Texas law lets you cancel certain contracts signed at home within three days, but the safer course is to sign nothing until your insurer’s adjuster has produced a scope of loss. Texas has no matching statute, so whether undamaged roofing is replaced for a uniform appearance depends on your policy wording. If you choose a UL 2218 Class 4 shingle, ask your insurer about any premium credit and required documentation.

Among the five ranked firms, Results Roofing of Carrollton lists residential roof replacement and storm damage work across Dallas-Fort Worth and has the deepest review record, 1,802 reviews at 5.0. Arrowhead Roofing of Keller focuses on residential roofing and storm restoration across Dallas-Fort Worth, though it was BBB accredited only in May 2026. Touchstone Roofing, Kidd Roofing and Elevated Roofing all handle residential and commercial roofing; Kidd has been in business since 1982, and Elevated has the second-deepest review record in the metro at 1,080 reviews. Every ranked contractor has a permanent Dallas-Fort Worth address, which matters in a market that fills with out-of-town crews after major storms.

What 5.9 inch hail does to a Dallas roof

Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 11 counties of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 2,015 hail reports, 922 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 96 tornadoes. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $6.1 billion; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

The biggest hail to fall on Dallas in a decade

Date Stone size Reported near County
15 June 2023 5.9 in Sanger Denton
11 April 2016 5.25 in Wylie Collin
12 June 2023 5.0 in Mansfield Tarrant
1 April 2024 4.5 in Keeter Wise
24 March 2019 4.5 in Allen Collin
11 April 2016 4.25 in Wylie Collin

The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 15 June 2023 near Sanger, measured at 5.9 inches. That is grapefruit sized. Stones that big destroy asphalt shingles outright, dent metal, crack tile and routinely total roofs across whole neighbourhoods.

Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 91 knots, about 105 mph, near Haltom City on 4 March 2025. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.

Tornadoes. 96 tornadoes touched down in these counties over the decade, the strongest rated EF3 near Gribble on 20 October 2019.

What the National Weather Service wrote about it

The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 4 March 2025 event near Haltom City, reproduced verbatim:

Damage to several homes was reported in Haltom City, including the partial loss of roof decking. Multiple large trees were snapped around 5 feet from the ground, and one tree was uprooted. A damage survey found straight line wind damage consistent with 105 mph winds along Wathall Rd between Field St and 377.

That account is the design case for a roof here, and it comes from the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.

When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in March (714), April (641), May (615). The worst years on record were 2023 (459), 2024 (418), 2025 (405). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Dallas, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.

Source: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, Storm Events Database, county-level detail files 2016 to 2025, filtered to the counties of this statistical area by The Roofing Brief. Damage figures are as reported to the NWS and undercount insured losses.

What to do with this. At 1,662 damaging-hail reports in ten years, impact resistance in Dallas is a specification question, not an upsell. Ask every contractor you shortlist to quote a UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated shingle alongside the standard option, and ask your insurer whether a Class 4 roof earns a premium discount, because many carriers offer one in high-hail territory.

What a Dallas homeowner should ask for in writing

There is no state roofing licence in TX. Texas does not issue or require a state roofing contractor licence. There is no state exam, no state licence number to check, and no state board that can discipline a roofer.

The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT) runs a voluntary Licensed Roofing Contractor program. The applicant must have been a principal of a Texas-based roofing company with a physical address for at least two continuous years, pass a business and safety exam and a roofing exam at 70% or better, carry workers’ compensation or an equivalent plan or file as a nonsubscriber with the Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation, and hold at least $300,000 general liability insurance for residential work ($500,000 for commercial) or show that the firm can obtain a $100,000 surety bond, property bond or letter of credit. The licence renews yearly with 8 hours of continuing education. A 2025 bill to create a state reroofing licence (HB 3344) did not pass.

That absence is the most important fact on this page. Where a state issues no credential, a manufacturer certification that can be revoked is the only quality signal a homeowner can actually check, which is why this ranking is built on certification rather than star ratings.

Check here: RCAT licensed contractor lookup. Many Texas cities still require roofers to register with the municipality and pull a permit, so check with the city building department where the work will happen. Texas does protect the deductible: under Business and Commerce Code 27.02 a contractor who promises to pay, waive or rebate your insurance deductible commits a Class B misdemeanour, and a claim-funded contract of $1,000 or more must carry a boldface deductible notice.

For what a full replacement costs across Texas, including state labor rates and permit rules, see our Texas roof replacement cost guide.

Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.

  1. Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
  2. Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
  3. Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
  4. Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.

The shape of the Dallas contractor market

38 certified roofing contractors serve the principal cities of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX statistical area, of which 16 hold the top President’s Club tier. The pool carries 11,911 customer reviews between them at a mean rating of 4.903. The statistical area had a 2024 population of 8,344,032, a change of 9.24% against the 2020 census base, per the U.S. Census Bureau Vintage 2024 estimates.

How these Dallas rankings were produced

Every contractor in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 38 certified contractors, of whom 16 hold President’s Club standing and 20 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 4.903. The top five were then researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. Anything unflattering that research surfaced appears above alongside the rest, and no company bought its position.

The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page. Dallas roofing questions, answered

Who is the best roofer in Dallas, TX?

Results Roofing of Carrollton, TX scores highest in the Dallas metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score, at 96.0 out of 100 as of September 2026. It holds President’s Club certification with a 5.0 rating across 1,802 reviews. Highest-scoring is not the same as best fit for your specific job, and the four companies behind it score within 7.7 points.

What is the 25% rule for roofing in Texas?

Texas has no statewide 25 percent roofing rule. State law makes the International Residential Code as it existed on May 1, 2012 the minimum residential code inside city limits, and each city may adopt a newer edition, so reroofing rules come from your city’s adopted code. Check your city’s building department for any local reroof rules.

Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Dallas?

Yes. The City of Dallas exempts re-roofing of a single-family or two-family dwelling from permit only when the work is worth $500 or less, so every real roof replacement needs one. Contractors pulling permits must be registered with the city, so ask for the permit number.

Who handles storm damage roofing in Dallas?

Results Roofing of Carrollton lists residential roof replacement and storm damage work across Dallas-Fort Worth, with 1,802 registry reviews at 5.0. Arrowhead Roofing of Keller focuses on residential roofing and storm restoration across Dallas-Fort Worth, and is best suited to northeast Tarrant County homeowners around Keller, Southlake and North Richland Hills.

Can a roofer in Texas pay my insurance deductible?

No. Under Texas Business and Commerce Code 27.02, a contractor who promises to pay, waive or rebate your insurance deductible commits a Class B misdemeanour. A claim-funded contract of $1,000 or more must also carry a boldface deductible notice.

Is an impact-rated roof worth it in Dallas?

Dallas-Fort Worth recorded 283 hail reports of two inches or larger over ten years, so a UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated shingle, or a stone-coated or heavy-gauge metal roof, is worth pricing on every quote. Ask your insurer what premium credit it gives and what documentation it wants at installation, and keep the product certificate and installation photographs with your policy papers.

How many certified roofing contractors serve Dallas?

38 contractors on the GAF certification registry serve the principal cities of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX statistical area as of September 2026, of which 16 hold President’s Club status.

How much damaging hail does Dallas get?

The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX statistical area recorded 1,662 hail reports of 1 inch or larger and 283 of 2 inches or larger between 2016 and 2025 in the NOAA Storm Events Database. The largest hailstone reported measured 5.9 inches.

Did any contractor pay to appear on this list?

No. The Roofing Brief takes no placement fees, no lead fees and no affiliate commission from any roofing contractor. Ranking comes entirely from the published formula applied to public registry data, followed by an individual research pass on the top five.

What was the worst hailstorm in Dallas in the last ten years?

The largest hailstone logged by the National Weather Service in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX statistical area between 2016 and 2025 measured 5.9 inches, reported near Sanger on 15 June 2023. That is grapefruit sized. Stones that big destroy asphalt shingles outright, dent metal, crack tile and routinely total roofs across whole neighbourhoods. Across the decade the metro recorded 2,015 hail reports. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $6.1 billion; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

When is the worst time of year for roof damage in Dallas?

Severe-weather reports in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX statistical area cluster in March, April, May, on the NOAA record for 2016 to 2025. Booking non-urgent roof work outside those months usually means shorter lead times, because local crews are not simultaneously triaging storm callouts.

Do roofers need a licence in TX?

What should I check before hiring a roofer in Dallas?

Many Texas cities still require roofers to register with the municipality and pull a permit, so check with the city building department where the work will happen. Texas does protect the deductible: under Business and Commerce Code 27.02 a contractor who promises to pay, waive or rebate your insurance deductible commits a Class B misdemeanour, and a claim-funded contract of $1,000 or more must carry a boldface deductible notice.

Is Dallas a hard market to find a good roofer in?

Dallas-Fort Worth is the hail capital of this programme. Its ten-year NOAA record holds 2,015 hail reports, 283 of them two inches or larger, and $6.1 billion in reported property damage, more than ten times the total of any other metro we have profiled.
