Short answer: As of October 2026, the one highest-scoring roofing contractors in the Wichita Falls, TX metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score are Marchand Roofing (85.0). Every one holds a manufacturer certification that can be verified independently, every rating below has been corroborated against at least one source outside the certification registry, and no company paid to appear here.
The Roofing Brief scored 1 certified roofing contractors serving the Wichita Falls metro on a published, reproducible formula, then researched each of the top one individually to confirm its record. Wichita Falls’s defining roof losses came from wind: the F4 tornado of April 1979 destroyed more than 3,000 homes, and an August 2023 microburst of perhaps 100 to 110 mph tore roofs off buildings along Loop 11. Hail is extreme too, up to a 5.33-inch stone at Burkburnett, though the federal record barely counts its cost. Texas licenses no roofers, but the city makes them register and post a $25,000 bond any damaged homeowner can claim on. One manufacturer-certified roofer with five or more reviews appears in the directory for Wichita Falls, and it is ranked; five more local roofers are listed for comparison.
What a Wichita Falls roof is up against
Texas has no state roofing licence. The only exam-based credential is the voluntary licence of the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, issued to individuals. Texas law makes you pay your own deductible (Insurance Code 707.002); a roofing contract of $1,000 or more expected to be paid from insurance must say so in 12-point bold type, and a contractor that waives or rebates the deductible commits a Class B misdemeanour (Business and Commerce Code 27.02). A contractor may not act as your public adjuster (Insurance Code 4102.163).
Wichita Falls requires contractors to register with the building official every year, free, and no unregistered contractor may pull or continue a permit. Before pulling a permit, a contractor must file a compliance bond: $25,000 for residential roofing, $100,000 for commercial. Anyone damaged by its failure to follow city or state law may claim on the bond, and the bond and insurance documents are available to citizens on request.
The only roofing work exempt from a Wichita Falls permit is patching torn shingles over no more than 500 square feet with no tear-off, so a reroof needs a permit, and working without one is a misdemeanour, each day a separate offence. The city’s published code still adopts the 2015 International Residential Code; its own list of adopted codes was blocked to us, so a newer adoption cannot be ruled out. Texas’s door-to-door sales law gives you three business days to cancel a contract signed at home.
Across 2016 to 2025 Wichita, Clay and Archer counties logged 309 hail reports, 240 of an inch or larger and 26 of two inches or more, 140 thunderstorm wind reports and 19 tornado segments. The 309 hail reports carry just $1,000 of recorded damage, so the federal record says almost nothing about hail roof losses here. The city’s median home was built in 1972, a third of its homes predate 1960, and 43.6 percent are rented.
The one certified roofer ranked in Wichita Falls, TX
Scored 2026-10-08. The metro mean rating used as the Bayesian prior for Wichita Falls is 4.9, across a pool of 1 certified contractors.

1. Marchand Roofing: TRB Score 85.0
Marchand Roofing is based in Wichita Falls, TX, led by Doug Marchand, owner, BBB accredited since 1 March 2014, A+ rating, one complaint in three years, and holds Master Elite standing on the GAF certification registry.

Independently corroborated:
- Marchand Roofing & Construction, LLC: accredited since March 2014 with an A+ rating; business started 2009; owner Doug Marchand; service area Wichita County; one service complaint in three years, answered.. BBB business profile
- Marchand Roofing & Construction, L.L.C., chartered September 2013, active, on Arena Rd in Wichita Falls.. Texas Comptroller franchise tax data
- Says Doug Marchand and his team have worked in construction in North Texas since 1987; residential and commercial roofing, siding, windows and remodelling.. Company website
What they actually do. Residential and commercial roofing, siding, windows and remodelling.
Why it ranks here. The only GAF-certified roofer in the metro with five or more reviews, and a strong one: Master Elite with 346 reviews averaging 4.9. A local Wichita Falls firm owned by Doug Marchand, BBB accredited since 2014 with one answered complaint in three years. BBB dates the business to 2009 and the company to 2013, while the site dates the owner’s construction career to 1987, so we give no founding year. Its site says it is licensed, bonded and insured; Texas has no roofing licence and it holds no RCAT licence, but Wichita Falls’s registration and $25,000 bond apply to every roofer who pulls a permit here. Its own domain is marchandroofingwf.com, not the similar marchandroofing.com.
Best fit for: Wichita Falls homeowners who want the area’s largest manufacturer-certified review record for a reroof after wind or hail.
What we would want clarified. No RCAT licence and no second manufacturer credential; ask to see its city registration and compliance bond before work starts. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.
Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (940) 782-5276, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.
Other roofers serving Wichita Falls
One certified firm is ranked here. These five are based in the metro with a verifiable credential. They are not scored and we are not recommending them. One RCAT-licensed firm we checked shows a forfeited state business status, so we left it out.
| Company | Verified credential |
|---|---|
| Armored Roofing Company | Three RCAT roofing licences among its staff and RCAT membership since 1975; Owens Corning Preferred; BBB accredited since 1981 at A+; on Iowa Park Rd, a Texas corporation since 1959. |
| Marant Roofing & Construction | BBB accredited since 1993 at A+, trading since 1992 under owner Jeff Martin; residential and commercial; no complaints. |
| Arrowhead Roofing & Siding | BBB accredited since 1999 at A+, on Kell Blvd; roofing, siding, gutters and windows; no complaints. |
| Justus & Company Roofing | BBB accredited since 2013 at A+, trading since 1994 from Iowa Park; small residential reroofing and storm repair firm; no complaints. |
| Assured Roofing and Construction | Owens Corning Preferred on 8th St in Wichita Falls; no BBB profile found and no founding date, so the weakest record of the five. |
The 240 inch-plus hail reports behind a Wichita Falls roof
Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 3 counties of the Wichita Falls, TX statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 309 hail reports, 140 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 19 tornadoes. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $790,000; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

The biggest hail to fall on Wichita Falls in a decade
| Date | Stone size | Reported near | County |
|---|---|---|---|
| 22 May 2020 | 5.33 in | Burkburnett | Wichita |
| 19 May 2025 | 3.0 in | Bluegrove | Clay |
| 22 May 2020 | 3.0 in | Burkburnett | Wichita |
| 23 April 2021 | 3.0 in | Lakeside City | Archer |
| 23 April 2021 | 3.0 in | Lakeside City | Archer |
| 7 May 2020 | 2.75 in | Archer City | Archer |
The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 22 May 2020 near Burkburnett, measured at 5.33 inches. That is grapefruit sized. Stones that big destroy asphalt shingles outright, dent metal, crack tile and routinely total roofs across whole neighbourhoods.
Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 91 knots, about 105 mph, near Wichita Falls on 10 August 2023. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.
Tornadoes. 19 tornadoes touched down in these counties over the decade, the strongest rated EF2 near Haynesville on 18 May 2017.
What the National Weather Service wrote about it
The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 10 August 2023 event near Wichita Falls, reproduced verbatim:
Numerous images/videos showing significant damage to a strip mall. This included full roof removal of a large section of the building, causing interior walls to collapse. A large educational building across the street from this location also had significant roof damage, including a portion of its roof removed. Time is radar estimated.
A roof in this metro is built against events like that one, as recorded by the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.
When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in May (171), April (105), June (46). The worst years on record were 2020 (75), 2025 (67), 2024 (61). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Wichita Falls, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.

What to do with this. At 240 damaging-hail reports in ten years, impact resistance in Wichita Falls is a specification question, not an upsell. Ask every contractor you shortlist to quote a UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated shingle alongside the standard option, and ask your insurer whether a Class 4 roof earns a premium discount, because many carriers offer one in high-hail territory.
Wind is the roof-breaker
On 10 April 1979 a tornado formed southwest of Wichita Falls at 5:55 pm and crossed the south and east of the city. NWS Norman records 42 deaths in the city, 25 of them in vehicles, and nearly 1,800 injuries. More than 3,000 homes were destroyed and another 1,000 damaged, more than 1,000 apartment and condominium units were destroyed, and about 20,000 residents were left homeless. Surveys led by Dr Ted Fujita rated it a strong F4, with winds around the storm producing light damage over almost the whole city, while large hail fell on its central and northern parts.
The wind threat did not end there. On the evening of 10 August 2023 a microburst struck western and central Wichita Falls with winds NWS Norman estimated may have reached 100 to 110 mph. Near Loop 11 and Seymour Highway a strip mall lost the roof over a large section and interior walls collapsed, an apartment building lost the roof at one corner, and a 500-foot radio tower came down.
Smaller wind events are routine. On 3 June 2025 a 70 knot thunderstorm gust between Holliday and Wichita Falls blew the metal facade off a house, and the zone record holds 18 non-thunderstorm high wind events in the decade, most of them measured at the Sheppard Air Force Base station, peaking at 64 knots in April 2019.
Hail is the other extreme: a 5.33-inch stone at Burkburnett on 22 May 2020 is the largest in the three counties’ decade, and three-inch hail fell at Lakeside City in 2021 and near Bluegrove in 2025. Yet the federal damage figures capture wind and miss hail almost entirely, which is why claims experience, not the NOAA column, tells you what hail costs here.
The roofs taking this are old: a third of the city’s homes predate 1960. That makes fastening the first question for any Wichita Falls roofer: how the edges, ridge and deck will be secured against 70 to 100 mph gusts. Then check the firm is registered with the city and ask to see the $25,000 compliance bond, a protection most Texas cities do not offer.

Before you sign anything in Wichita Falls
There is no state roofing licence in TX. Texas does not issue or require a state roofing contractor licence. There is no state exam, no state licence number to check, and no state board that can discipline a roofer.
The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT) runs a voluntary Licensed Roofing Contractor program. The applicant must have been a principal of a Texas-based roofing company with a physical address for at least two continuous years, pass a business and safety exam and a roofing exam at 70% or better, carry workers’ compensation or an equivalent plan or file as a nonsubscriber with the Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation, and hold at least $300,000 general liability insurance for residential work ($500,000 for commercial) or show that the firm can obtain a $100,000 surety bond, property bond or letter of credit. The licence renews yearly with 8 hours of continuing education. A 2025 bill to create a state reroofing licence (HB 3344) did not pass.
That absence is the most important fact on this page. Where a state issues no credential, a manufacturer certification that can be revoked is the only quality signal a homeowner can actually check, which is why this ranking is built on certification rather than star ratings.
Check here: RCAT licensed contractor lookup. Many Texas cities still require roofers to register with the municipality and pull a permit, so check with the city building department where the work will happen.
Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.
- Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
- Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
- Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
- Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.

How these Wichita Falls rankings were produced
Every contractor in the Wichita Falls, TX pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 1 certified contractor, of whom 0 hold President’s Club standing and 1 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 4.9. The top one were then researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. Where that research turned up something awkward it is on the page, and no placement was paid for.
The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page.
