Short answer: As of October 2026 no roofing contractor based in the Lake Havasu City-Kingman metro holds GAF certification with five or more customer reviews, so The Roofing Brief ranks none here. Instead this page lists six local roofers we verified individually on the Arizona Registrar of Contractors register, each holding an active roofing licence with no open, disciplined or resolved complaints shown. The oldest has held its roofing licence since 1995.
The Roofing Brief searched the GAF certification registry across the principal cities of the Lake Havasu City-Kingman, AZ statistical area. No roofing contractor based inside the metro clears the evidence floor this ranking applies, which is manufacturer certification plus at least five independent customer reviews, so this page ranks nobody rather than pad a list. What it does instead is set out the contractors we could verify individually against the credential that actually exists here. Lake Havasu City is a desert town of retirees and snowbirds, with 127 days a year at 100 degrees or more and, by our count of the station’s daily records, about 43 days a year at 110. Arizona licenses every roofer through its Registrar of Contractors and backs homeowners with a recovery fund, but the city has dropped the residential energy code and exempts most like-for-like reroofs from permits, so nobody inspects the finished roof. The state register, not a manufacturer badge, is the credential to check here.
What a Lake Havasu City roof is up against
Arizona makes it unlawful to contract without a Registrar of Contractors licence in good standing. Residential roofing needs the R-42 or dual CR-42 roofing licence, or a general building licence, and the handyman exemption covers only minor jobs under $1,000 that need no permit. The register shows each licence’s bond and its open and recently closed complaint cases, though complaints settled or dismissed without a corrective order do not appear; the full history needs a public records request.
Behind the licence sits the Residential Contractors’ Recovery Fund. It can pay a homeowner’s unpaid judgment against a licensed residential contractor up to $30,000 per claimant and $200,000 per licence, provided the action starts within two years and any bond is claimed first. Any payment automatically suspends the contractor’s licence until the fund is repaid with interest, and everyone on that licence is barred from holding another, which gives the register real teeth. Unlicensed contractors are outside the fund entirely.
After a catastrophic storm Arizona’s A.R.S. 32-1158.02 applies to residential roof contracts: you may cancel within 72 hours of a claim denial, or for any reason within four business days of signing; the down payment may not exceed half the contract; and since the 2026 amendments a post-storm contractor may not pay or rebate your deductible, start non-emergency work before the insurer decides, act as your adjuster, or solicit a signature while the loss is still under way.
The city layer is thin by design. Lake Havasu City adopted the 2024 International Residential Code from 1 February 2026 but deleted its energy chapter entirely, and Arizona has no statewide energy code, so nothing requires a cool roof or added insulation on a reroof. The same ordinance exempts an in-kind reroof from permits as long as no more than 25 percent of the sheathing is replaced. The storm record is the monsoon: 108 thunderstorm wind reports in Mohave County from 2016 to 2025 against 20 hail reports, with July and August carrying most of them.
Lake Havasu City roofers verified on the state register
No roofer based in the metro clears our certified ranking floor, so none is ranked. These six were checked on the Arizona Registrar of Contractors register: each holds an active dual roofing licence with no open, disciplined or resolved complaints shown. They are not scored and we are not recommending them. We checked and left out others: two with open complaint cases, which are allegations rather than findings, one with a BBB D- rating, and several with too little public record to assess.

The 108 wind reports that shape a Lake Havasu City roof
Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 1 county of the Lake Havasu City-Kingman, AZ statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 20 hail reports, 108 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 3 tornadoes. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $3.7 million; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

The biggest hail to fall on Lake Havasu City in a decade
| Date | Stone size | Reported near | County |
|---|---|---|---|
| 23 September 2019 | 1.75 in | Riviera | Mohave |
| 3 June 2025 | 1.0 in | Getz | Mohave |
| 3 October 2018 | 1.0 in | Riviera | Mohave |
| 5 September 2025 | 1.0 in | Meadview | Mohave |
| 6 May 2025 | 1.0 in | Riviera | Mohave |
| 17 July 2017 | 1.0 in | Valentine | Mohave |
The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 23 September 2019 near Riviera, measured at 1.75 inches. That is ping-pong-ball sized, enough to bruise asphalt shingles and shorten a roof’s life without necessarily looking dramatic from the ground.
Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 73 knots, about 84 mph, near Mohave on 13 July 2021. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.
Tornadoes. 3 tornadoes touched down in these counties over the decade, the strongest rated EF0 near Berry on 27 July 2016.
What the National Weather Service wrote about it
The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 13 July 2021 event near Mohave, reproduced verbatim:
A tree was also blown down at the Mohave County Fairgrounds. This unusually long duration severe wind event was believed to be associated with a wake low.
That is what the specification has to anticipate here, written up by the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.
When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in August (41), July (41), September (26). The worst years on record were 2022 (31), 2021 (20), 2017 (13). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Lake Havasu City, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.

What to do with this. Hail is not the governing risk in Lake Havasu City. Weight your decision toward wind rating, ventilation and flashing detail rather than paying extra for impact-rated shingles.
A roof for 120-degree days, with no inspector
NOAA’s 1991 to 2020 normals for the Lake Havasu City station average 127.5 days a year at or above 100 degrees and 178 days at or above 90, with just over four inches of rain. Our count of the station’s daily maxima from 2016 to 2025 averages 43 days a year at or above 110, from 29 in 2022 to 72 in 2024, and a peak of 122 degrees on 21 June 2016. Bullhead City is hotter still. Kingman, at about 3,400 feet, is a different roof climate, with 66 nights a year at or below freezing against fewer than one in Lake Havasu City.
Heat at that level is what ages a roof here: it bakes underlayment and sealants, and it drives the monsoon. The 1 September 2019 storm at Lake Havasu City, which NWS noted was sustained by excessive heat, sank boats, damaged the courtesy docks and collapsed a two-storey storage building under construction, with $1 million of recorded damage. In August 2025 a 68 mph gust at Bullhead City airport blew shingles off roofs and left 25,000 customers without power.
The city’s rules leave the roof itself to the owner. With the energy chapter deleted, no reflective surface or insulation upgrade is required when a Havasu home is reroofed. With in-kind reroofs exempt from permits, no city inspector looks at the underlayment, the flashing or the fastening on most replacement jobs.
The housing makes that gap matter. The metro’s median age is 53.6, against 38.9 nationally; nearly a quarter of its homes are mobile homes; and 11.5 percent of housing units, 15 percent inside Lake Havasu City, sit empty as seasonal homes, so many roofs go unwatched through the monsoon months.
The protections that remain are the licence and what the owner asks for. Check the roofer’s licence class and complaint record on the register. Ask for a reflective or foam roof if you want one, because the code will not require it. And, without an inspector, ask for photographs of the deck, underlayment and flashing before they are covered.

The checks worth making in Lake Havasu City
Licensing is required in AZ. Arizona requires a Registrar of Contractors licence for any contracting work, with a narrow handyman exemption for casual or minor work under $1,000 that needs no building permit. Roofing is the R-42 classification, though general building licences such as KB-1 and KB-2 also cover it. Contracting without a licence is a class 1 misdemeanour with a minimum fine of $1,000.
The Residential Contractors’ Recovery Fund pays a homeowner’s unpaid judgment against a licensed residential contractor up to $30,000 per claimant and $200,000 per licence (A.R.S. 32-1133 and 32-1139). For post-storm residential roof contracts A.R.S. 32-1158.02 gives two cancellation rights, within 72 hours of the insurer denying the claim and for any reason within four business days of signing, and caps the down payment at 50 percent. Since 12 September 2026, under SB 1206, a post-storm contractor may not pay, promise to pay or rebate your deductible, may not act as your adjuster, and may not start non-emergency work before the insurer decides the claim.

Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.
- Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
- Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
- Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
- Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.

How these Lake Havasu City rankings were produced
Every contractor in the Lake Havasu City-Kingman, AZ pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 0 certified contractors, of whom 0 hold President’s Club standing and 0 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 4.55. No contractor cleared the floor, so the alternatives listed above were instead researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. The findings are printed above whether they flatter the contractor or not, and nobody paid to appear.
The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page. Is wind or hail the bigger risk to a roof in Lake Havasu City?
Wind, by a wide margin. The Lake Havasu City-Kingman, AZ statistical area logged 108 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports against 12 hail reports of an inch or more between 2016 and 2025. Wind damage shows up at the rake, ridge and edge rather than across the field of the roof, so the fastening schedule and edge detail matter more here than the impact rating of the shingle.
