VELUX Skylights: Sizes, Prices, Models, and Warranty (2026 Guide)

VELUX skylights sizes and prices for 2026: every deck and curb size code with rough openings, VELUX's $1,900 to $5,800 installed ranges, and the warranty.

By The Roofing Brief Team. Last reviewed: October 2026.

VELUX skylights come in 14 deck-mounted sizes for the fixed FS, from the A06 (14 1/2 by 45 3/4 inch rough opening) to the S06 (44 1/4 by 45 3/4 inches), and VELUX’s own published prices put a new skylight at $1,900 to $5,800 installed and a Sun Tunnel at $650 to $2,150. Retail unit prices run about $230 to $1,834 before labor, depending on whether the replacement skylight is fixed, manual-vented, electric, or solar. Every VELUX deck and curb skylight installed with VELUX flashing carries a 10-year installation warranty against leaks, and VELUX’s professional site says that applies no matter who installs it. For generic pricing across all brands, see our skylight installation cost guide.

Which VELUX skylight size and type fits your roof

Three measurements settle most of the choice: the rafter or truss spacing, the roof pitch, and, for a Sun Tunnel, the length of the run from roof to ceiling. Clear width between framing is the spacing minus 1 1/2 inches for one member (14 1/2 in at 16 in on center, 22 1/2 in at 24 in on center).

What are the VELUX skylight models, and how do you read the codes?

VELUX sells four functional types (fixed, manual-vented, electric-vented, and solar-vented) plus the tubular Sun Tunnel, and each carries a two- or three-letter code that tells you how it opens and how it mounts. Deck-mounted units sit low against the roof with an integral flashing skirt; curb-mounted units bolt to a raised wood curb. Reading the code before you shop stops you from buying the wrong mount for your roof.

VELUX brands its venting models under the Fresh Air name: the manual VS, the electric VSE, and the solar VSS all open to exhaust hot air, while the fixed FS and the tubular Sun Tunnel do not. So the real type decision is simple: fixed for pure daylight, a Fresh Air model for daylight plus ventilation, or a Sun Tunnel where no box skylight will fit. If you are weighing the first two, our comparison of fixed vs vented skylights covers the cost gap, light loss, and leak risk in more detail.

The first letters tell you the function and mount. The Sun Tunnel is a separate tubular product for spaces a box skylight cannot reach.

Code Type Mount How it opens
FS Fixed Deck Does not open
FCM Fixed Curb Does not open
VS Vented Deck Manual crank or pole
VCM Vented Curb Manual
VSE / VCE Vented Deck / Curb Electric motor, wall switch
VSS / VCS Vented Deck / Curb Solar motor, no wiring
Sun Tunnel Tubular Roof to ceiling Fixed light pipe

What do the size codes like C08 or M06 mean?

The trailing size code (such as C08, M06, or 2246) is the fixed VELUX size that sets your rough opening, and you cannot change it without reframing. Deck-mounted units use a letter-number grid (C, D, M, S columns; 01 to 08 rows), where a C08 measures about 21 by 55 inches and an M06 about 30 by 46 inches. Curb-mounted units use a four-digit code (2246 means 22 by 46 inches). Match the size code to the space between your rafters before ordering, because the flashing kit is size-specific too.

The VELUX skylight size chart below lists the deck-mounted sizes with both the rough opening and the outside frame, per the VELUX USA size guide (checked October 2026). The framing-fit column is our arithmetic from those widths. The same size code sets the same rough opening whether you pick a Fixed (FS), manual Fresh Air (VS), electric Fresh Air (VSE), or solar Fresh Air (VSS) unit, so you choose type and size independently. Frame to the rough-opening figure, not the outside frame.

How much does a VELUX skylight cost in 2026?

A VELUX unit alone costs $230 to $1,834 in 2026 at retail, and VELUX’s skylight buying guide prices a new installed skylight at $1,900 to $5,800 and a replacement at $900 to $3,600, product and labor included. Solar and electric vented models sit at the top because they add a motor, controls, and a rain sensor; fixed models are cheapest. Installed price also swings with roof pitch, tear-out of an old curb, and whether the drywall shaft needs rebuilding.

VELUX type Unit only Installed (2026, retail plus labor) VELUX published, new / replacement Notes
Fixed (FS / FCM) $230 to $802 $650 to $3,600 $1,900 to $4,200 / $900 to $2,400 No moving parts, longest odds of a dry install
Manual vented (VS / VCM) $579 to $1,138 $1,000 to $3,950 $2,100 to $4,600 / $1,200 to $2,700 Crank or telescoping pole
Electric vented (VSE / VCE) $1,279 to $1,834 $2,100 to $5,450 $2,900 to $5,800 / $2,100 to $3,600 Needs a licensed electrician run
Solar vented (VSS / VCS) $1,279 to $1,834 $1,700 to $4,650 $2,900 to $5,800 / $2,100 to $3,600 No wiring; no federal credit for a 2026 install
Sun Tunnel $224 to $816 $650 to $2,150 $650 to $2,150 (new) Cheapest to install, fits tight spaces
Flashing kit (EDL / ECL) $108 to $298 Included above Included Required for the no-leak warranty

How these ranges are built: the unit column brackets Home Depot listings checked in October 2026 for the popular C06 size, which showed about $453 for a fixed FS, $782 for a manual VS, $1,414 for an electric VSE, and $1,811 for a solar VSS sold with a factory shade. The installed column adds a VELUX flashing kit (Home Depot listed the EDL C06 at $119) and HomeAdvisor’s professional installation range of $300 to $2,500, plus Fixr’s $435 to $793 electrician estimate for wired electric units. The VELUX column comes from its own buying guides, which state they use national averages for product plus installation; retail listings change often, so treat both as planning figures.

The two columns differ most for electric and solar units: the retail-built range starts at $1,700, while VELUX starts its published range at $2,900 for a new opening, which includes cutting and framing the shaft. Our skylight installation cost guide breaks the labor line down across all brands.

Is there a VELUX price list or price book for 2026?

VELUX USA does not post a public price list or price book for 2026. We found none on veluxusa.com or on its trade site, pro.veluxusa.com, which offers catalogs, product size data and code documents instead. Unit prices come from retailers and VELUX dealers, and installed prices come from installer quotes. VELUX’s consumer site publishes installed ranges instead: $1,900 to $4,200 for a new fixed FS and $650 to $2,150 for any Sun Tunnel, plus a project calculator that asks for ceiling type, roof-to-ceiling distance (under 4 ft up to 18 ft or more), roofing material and ZIP code.

To build your own VELUX price list, price each line separately:

  1. The unit, by exact model and size code. A VS C06 and a VS M06 are different products at different prices, so search the full code, not just “VELUX skylight”.
  2. The flashing kit for that size. It is a separate line in the cost table above, and the no-leak warranty requires it.
  3. Shades and controls. Check whether a shade is bundled: the $1,811 solar VSS C06 listing above included one.
  4. Installation. Get a written quote from a VELUX-trained installer through the VELUX installer locator, or run VELUX’s project calculator for a ballpark.

Contractors get trade pricing through their VELUX dealer or distributor account. The VELUX professional site handles dealer registration and literature but publishes no prices.

Is VELUX better than other skylight brands?

VELUX and Fakro now publish matching 10-year leak warranties on installation: VELUX covers deck and curb skylights installed with VELUX flashing, and the FAKRO USA limited warranty covers its FX, FV, FVE and FVS skylights made after January 1, 2014 and installed with FAKRO flashing. FAKRO also warrants laminated glass against hail breakage for 20 years, for hail up to 1 3/4 inches. Sun-Tek and Wasco compete mainly on curb-mounted and custom units, so compare the same size code and glass package before comparing price. For a ranked look across every major skylight maker, see our best skylight brand comparison.

Brand Unit price vs VELUX No-leak install warranty Strength
VELUX Baseline 10 years with VELUX flashing (deck and curb) Widest installer network, solar vented range
Fakro Varies by size and dealer 10 years with FAKRO flashing (FX, FV, FVE, FVS) Price, side-hinged and pivot roof windows
Sun-Tek Varies by size and dealer Check the maker’s current terms Curb-mounted, Florida code approvals
Wasco Varies by size and dealer Check the maker’s current terms Custom sizes, commercial units

What does the VELUX warranty actually cover?

The VELUX warranty is layered, and the “No Leak” installation layer depends on the flashing, not on who installs it: the VELUX professional warranty page says the 10-year installation warranty covers correct skylight and flashing installations, product and labor, “no matter who installs the skylight.” The coverage below reflects VELUX USA terms for glass skylights in 2026. That matters during a reroof, so read whether to replace skylights when reroofing.

  • 10 years on the skylight and flashing for material and workmanship defects.
  • 10 years no-leak installation warranty on deck-mounted FS, VS, VSE and VSS units with EDL, EDW, EDM, EKL or EKW flashing, and curb-mounted FCM, VCM, VCE and VCS units with ECL or ECW flashing, installed to VELUX instructions on a residential roof with one layer of roofing, per the VELUX warranty brochure.
  • 20 years on the seal between the glass panes against fogging or film.
  • 5 years on motors, controls, rain sensors, solar panels, and electrical accessories.

The No Leak layer has a cap worth knowing: if VELUX cannot reinstall or replace the unit in a reasonable time, the brochure limits the remedy to the reasonable cost of one reinstallation, not to exceed $1,000, and an owner pays a one-time inspection fee if a VELUX technician finds the install did not follow the instructions. If a unit does leak, our skylight leak repair guide walks through diagnosing the source before you tear anything out.

Hail is covered separately: the VELUX USA warranty page extends hail coverage to skylights with laminated glass. Damage to the roof around the skylight is a different question, and our storm damage roof repair and replacement guide covers whether to repair or replace after a storm.

What is a VELUX Sun Tunnel, and when does it beat a box skylight?

A VELUX Sun Tunnel is a tubular skylight that funnels daylight down a reflective pipe from the roof to a ceiling diffuser, and it wins wherever a box skylight will not physically fit. It suits hallways, closets, bathrooms, and any room under an attic where framing a full shaft is impractical. At $650 to $2,150 installed per VELUX’s Sun Tunnel buying guide, it is the cheapest VELUX product to add daylight to an interior room.

Sun Tunnels come in rigid and flexible versions, and the run length decides it. The flexible TGF comes in 14 and 22 inch diameters with 8 ft of tube in the kit and a maximum recommended install length of 8 ft and 12 ft. The rigid TGR comes in 10, 14 and 22 inch diameters with a 4 ft kit tube and maximum recommended lengths of 20, 30 and 40 ft. Both low-profile flashings are rated for 14° to 60° roof pitch on asphalt shingle, shake, slate and metal roofs, per the VELUX spec pages.

Are VELUX skylights worth it in 2026?

VELUX is worth the premium when the warranty math matters to you: 10 years on installation leaks with VELUX flashing, 20 years on the glass seal, and 5 years on shades and controls. If a competing maker quotes less for the same size, check that its leak warranty is written the same way; FAKRO’s, for example, also runs 10 years with its own flashing. The brand premium buys warranty terms and size availability (14 fixed deck sizes), not more daylight per square inch of glass.

One 2026 change matters for the math. The federal energy efficient home improvement credit (Section 25C) that once helped offset skylight cost ended for property placed in service after December 31, 2025 under Public Law 119-21, so do not count on the old window-and-skylight credit. Solar-powered VELUX units (the VSS and VCS series) do not get a credit either: the residential clean energy credit (Section 25D) ended for expenditures made after December 31, 2025, and VELUX states it is unable to certify that any solar powered skylight, accessory, or related installation cost qualifies under 25D. Budget a 2026 VELUX install at full price, and check state or utility programs separately.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes do VELUX skylights come in?

VELUX deck-mounted skylights run from about 14 1/2 by 45 3/4 inches (A06) up to 44 1/4 by 45 3/4 inches (S06), with popular picks like C06 (21 by 45 3/4) and M06 (30 by 45 3/4). The size code sets a fixed rough opening you cannot change without reframing, and the same code gives the same opening across the FS, VS, VSE, and VSS types. Curb-mounted codes such as 2246 state the curb size directly.

What size VELUX skylight fits between rafters?

At 16 inch on-center rafters, the 14 1/2 inch clear bay fits the A06 (14 1/2 by 45 3/4 inch rough opening) with no cuts, and the M sizes (30 1/16 inch wide) fit once one rafter is headed off. Between 24 inch on-center trusses, VELUX says the D26 and D06 (22 1/2 inch wide) fit. All other sizes need framing changes, and IRC R802.10.4 bars cutting or altering a truss without approval from a registered design professional.

How much does a VELUX skylight cost installed?

VELUX’s own buying guide puts a new installed skylight at $1,900 to $4,200 for fixed FS or FCM, $2,100 to $4,600 for manual VS or VCM, and $2,900 to $5,800 for electric or solar models; replacements in an existing opening run $900 to $3,600. Sun Tunnels run $650 to $2,150. Roof pitch, old-unit tear-out, and rebuilding the interior light shaft push the number toward the top of each range.

What is the difference between deck-mounted and curb-mounted VELUX skylights?

Deck-mounted VELUX skylights (FS, VS, VSE, VSS) sit low against the roof with a flashing kit and are rated for 14° to 85° pitch (3:12 and steeper). Curb-mounted units (FCM, VCM, VCE, VCS) sit on a site-built curb and are rated for 0° to 60°, so they are the VELUX choice below 3:12 or when replacing an old curbed skylight. Both carry the 10-year No Leak installation warranty when installed with the matching VELUX flashing.

Do VELUX skylights qualify for a tax credit in 2026?

No. VELUX skylights installed in 2026 do not qualify for a federal tax credit. The energy efficient home improvement credit (Section 25C) that once covered qualifying skylights ended for property placed in service after December 31, 2025, and the residential clean energy credit (Section 25D) ended for expenditures made after that date, both under Public Law 119-21. VELUX also states it is unable to certify that its solar powered skylights qualify under 25D. Check state and utility programs separately.

How long do VELUX skylights last?

VELUX does not publish a service life, but its warranties set the benchmarks: 20 years on the insulating glass seal, 10 years on the product and on installation leaks, and 5 years on shades, motors and controls. Motorized and solar units may need control service before the glass needs replacing.

Is VELUX or Fakro better?

Both publish a 10-year leak warranty on installation when their own flashing is used, so the choice comes down to size, price and glass. VELUX offers 14 fixed deck sizes from A06 to S06; FAKRO warrants laminated glass against hail breakage for 20 years (hail up to 1 3/4 inches). Compare quotes for the same rough opening and glass package.
