Best Roofers in Midland, TX: 1 Certified Contractor, Scored and Verified

Short answer: As of October 2026, the one highest-scoring roofing contractors in the Midland, TX metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score are Certified Roofing & Inspections (65.0). Each is certified by a manufacturer whose register we checked by hand, each rating has been tested against a source outside that register, and nobody bought a place on this page.

The Roofing Brief scored 1 certified roofing contractors serving the Midland metro on a published, reproducible formula, then researched each of the top one individually to confirm its record. Midland sits under one of the most active hail tracks in Texas, and the stones have hit the city itself: baseball-size or larger on 23 April 2019, 24 May 2022 and 30 May 2024, twice landing on the Legends Park neighbourhood. Texas licenses no roofers, so the credentials worth checking are the voluntary RCAT licence, the city’s contractor bond and a firm’s own record. Only one manufacturer-certified roofer with five or more reviews appears in the directory for Midland, so one is ranked, and five more local roofers with verifiable credentials are listed for comparison.

What a Midland roof is up against

Texas has no state roofing licence; the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation does not license roofers, and a 2025 bill to create a state reroofing licence never reached a House floor vote. The only roofing-specific credential is the voluntary licence run by the Roofing Contractors Association of Texas, which requires the applicant to have run a Texas roofing company for two continuous years, pass business, safety and roofing exams, and carry liability insurance. The City of Midland adds a floor: a contractor must register with the city and post a $10,000 bond approved by the City Attorney before any permit is issued.

Texas regulates the insurance side firmly. Insurance Code 707.002 says the insured must pay the deductible, and an insurer may withhold recoverable depreciation until it sees proof that it was paid. Under Business and Commerce Code 27.02, any contract of $1,000 or more to be paid from an insurance claim must carry a bold notice that the law requires you to pay the deductible, and a roofer who waives, absorbs or rebates it is breaking the law. Insurance Code 4102.163 bars a roofer from acting as your public adjuster on a property it is working on, even with a power of attorney.

The code is a cycle behind. Midland still enforces the 2018 International Residential Code, adopted from 1 July 2019, and its 2026 fee schedule charges residential construction by floor area with no separate reroof line. We could not read the city’s own code amendments to confirm whether a like-for-like reroof needs a permit, so ask the roofer to show you the permit or the city’s written answer.

The federal record understates what hail costs here. Across 2016 to 2025 Midland and Martin counties logged 169 hail reports, 161 of an inch or more and 39 of two inches or more, the largest 4.0 inches, yet only $436,900 of hail damage is entered against them, because most roof losses are settled privately. There were also 106 thunderstorm wind reports and five tornado segments, all in Midland County. Nearly 30 percent of the metro’s homes were built since 2010, so many roofs that have taken hail are young.

1. Certified Roofing & Inspections — TRB Score 65.0

Certified Roofing & Inspections is based in Midland, TX, led by Bradley White, owner (BBB), BBB accredited since 27 November 2023, A rating, one complaint closed in three years, and holds Certified standing on the GAF certification registry.

  • Accredited since 27 November 2023 with an A rating, business start January 2023, one complaint closed in three years; service area Midland.. BBB business profile
  • Residential and commercial roofing, replacements, skylights and inspections across the Permian Basin.. Company website

What they actually do. Residential and commercial roofing, storm restoration, inspections, gutters and skylights.

Why it ranks here. The only manufacturer-certified roofer in Midland with five or more reviews: a 4.7 across 13, from a locally owned firm that serves Midland and the Permian Basin and is BBB accredited.

Best fit for: Midland homeowners who want a locally owned firm and will do their own credential checks.

What we would want clarified. Its record is thin and partly unclear. BBB dates the business to 2023, while its website claims more than ten years, and a site using the same phone number carries the name and address of a separate company, Certified Roofing and Construction Specialists, trading since 2016; we found no document explaining the link. It holds no RCAT licence, and although its site lists Owens Corning as a partner it does not appear in Owens Corning’s locator. BBB shows an A rather than A+, with one complaint. Certification tier and reviews are unverified. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (432) 250-2741, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.

Other credentialed roofers serving Midland

Only one certified firm is ranked here. These five are based in Midland and hold a verifiable credential: an RCAT licence or a place in Owens Corning’s contractor network, with clean BBB records. They are not scored and we are not recommending them; we treat their own claims as leads rather than verified facts.

What 4.0 inch hail does to a Midland roof

Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 2 counties of the Midland, TX statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 169 hail reports, 106 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 5 tornadoes. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $2.1 million; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

The biggest hail to fall on Midland in a decade

Date Stone size Reported near County
24 May 2022 4.0 in Midland Midland
30 May 2024 4.0 in Midland Midland
23 April 2019 3.0 in Midland Midland
24 May 2022 3.0 in Midland Midland
30 May 2024 3.0 in Warfield Midland
14 June 2017 2.75 in Warfield Midland

The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 24 May 2022 near Midland, measured at 4.0 inches. That is grapefruit sized. Stones that big destroy asphalt shingles outright, dent metal, crack tile and routinely total roofs across whole neighbourhoods.

Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 97 knots, about 112 mph, near Midland on 22 April 2025. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.

Tornadoes. 5 tornadoes touched down in these counties over the decade, the strongest rated EF3 near Warfield on 20 May 2019.

What the National Weather Service wrote about it

The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 22 April 2025 event near Midland, reproduced verbatim:

The Midland International Air and Space Port ASOS reported a peak wind gust of 97 kts due to a dry microburst from distant convection. Several other strong wind gusts were measured. Localized near-zero visibility from blowing dust was also observed. Reported wind damage in nearby Odessa and no faults found with the ASOS wind sensor support the validity of this observation. Time is estimated.

That account is the design case for a roof here, and it comes from the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.

When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in May (98), June (86), April (36). The worst years on record were 2017 (52), 2024 (35), 2019 (33). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Midland, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.

What to do with this. Midland sees enough damaging hail that a Class 4 impact-rated shingle is worth pricing, though not automatically worth buying. Get both quotes and weigh the premium against any insurance discount.

Baseball hail on the city itself

On 23 April 2019 a storm formed south of Interstate 20, crossed Midland International Airport and tracked into the city, dropping hail up to baseball size. The NWS Midland/Odessa write-up says it damaged numerous vehicles, homes and other structures, especially on the south and west sides. A RockHounds game was under way at Security Bank Ballpark, where fans sheltered under the rafters, and large stones were photographed in the Legends Park neighbourhood.

Three years later, on 24 May 2022, NWS recorded hail of two to three inches across the north side of Midland and photographed softball-size stones on the northwest side near Greentree; the federal record logs a 4.0 inch stone in Midland that day.

On 30 May 2024 a supercell formed where a dryline met an outflow boundary just west of the city. NWS says it produced hail up to baseball size near its own office and over the Legends Park subdivision for 30 minutes to an hour; at the NWS office the hail lasted 45 minutes to an hour. The storm record describes cars with broken windows and heavy dents, damaged solar panels, and damaged roofs and windows on homes, at an estimated $250,000, the largest hail damage figure entered in the two counties in the decade. The same storm produced an EF2 south of I-20 and a low-end EF3 near the Upton County line.

Wind is a separate threat. On 8 July 2016 a microburst with winds estimated at 80 to 100 mph struck west-southwest of downtown, and the Red Cross found damage at 28 of the 92 homes it assessed.

For a homeowner the lesson of three direct strikes in five years is that a young roof is no guarantee: nearly a third of the metro’s homes are less than 16 years old, and many have already been hit. After a storm, insist on the bold deductible notice the law requires, refuse any offer to cover your deductible, and check the roofer’s city registration and bond before signing.

Three things to confirm before work starts in Midland

There is no state roofing licence in TX. Texas does not issue or require a state roofing contractor licence. There is no state exam, no state licence number to check, and no state board that can discipline a roofer.

The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT) runs a voluntary Licensed Roofing Contractor program. The applicant must have been a principal of a Texas-based roofing company with a physical address for at least two continuous years, pass a business and safety exam and a roofing exam at 70% or better, carry workers’ compensation or an equivalent plan, and hold at least $300,000 general liability insurance for residential work or a $100,000 surety bond ($500,000 liability for commercial work). The licence renews yearly with 8 hours of continuing education. A 2025 bill to create a state reroofing licence (HB 3344) did not pass.

That absence is the most important fact on this page. Where a state issues no credential, a manufacturer certification that can be revoked is the only quality signal a homeowner can actually check, which is why this ranking is built on certification rather than star ratings.

Check here: RCAT licensed contractor lookup. Many Texas cities still require roofers to register with the municipality and pull a permit, so check with the city building department where the work will happen.

Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.

  1. Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
  2. Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
  3. Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
  4. Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.

How these Midland rankings were produced

Every contractor in the Midland, TX pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 1 certified contractor, of whom 0 hold President’s Club standing and 0 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 4.7. The top one were then researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. Anything unflattering that research surfaced appears above alongside the rest, and no company bought its position.

The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page. Is Midland a hard market to find a good roofer in?

Midland sits under one of the most active hail tracks in Texas, and the stones have hit the city itself: baseball-size or larger on 23 April 2019, 24 May 2022 and 30 May 2024, twice landing on the Legends Park neighbourhood. Texas licenses no roofers, so the credentials worth checking are the voluntary RCAT licence, the city’s contractor bond and a firm’s own record. Only one manufacturer-certified roofer with five or more reviews appears in the directory for Midland, so one is ranked, and five more local roofers with verifiable credentials are listed for comparison.
