Best Roofers in Texarkana, TX: Why None Is Ranked, and Who We Verified

No Texarkana roofer clears our certified ranking floor. The contractors we verified individually against local licence and manufacturer records, and the checks to run before you hire. No paid placement.

Best Roofers in Texarkana, TX: Why None Is Ranked, and Who We Verified

Short answer: As of October 2026 no residential roofing contractor serving the Texarkana metro holds GAF certification with five or more customer reviews. GAF’s directory has one certified firm here with enough reviews, RBT Roofing, and by its own website it is a nationwide commercial roofer, so The Roofing Brief ranks none. Instead this page lists five Texarkana roofers we checked individually: four are Owens Corning Preferred contractors and all five appear on Arkansas’s contractor roster, which a roofer working on the Arkansas side of the line needs.

The Roofing Brief searched the GAF certification registry across the principal cities of the Texarkana, TX-AR statistical area. No roofing contractor based inside the metro clears the evidence floor this ranking applies, which is manufacturer certification plus at least five independent customer reviews, so this page ranks nobody rather than pad a list. What it does instead is set out the contractors we could verify individually against the credential that actually exists here. Texarkana is one storm market split by a state line, and the rules change at State Line Avenue: Texas licenses no roofers but makes a deductible rebate a crime, while Arkansas requires a bonded roofing registration and gives you three business days to cancel after an insurer denies your claim. The storms do not notice; Beryl’s remnants lifted roofs on the Texas side in July 2024 while two more tornadoes crossed Miller County. The only certified firm in the directory is a commercial roofer, so none is ranked.

The conditions a Texarkana roof has to be specified for

On the Arkansas side a roofer needs a roofing registration from the Residential Contractors Committee, backed by a $15,000 surety bond and workers’ compensation if it has employees, or a state contractor licence whose classification covers roofing; the registration has no dollar threshold and costs $20 a year. Working without either is a misdemeanour each day, with civil penalties of $100 to $400 a day, and an unregistered roofer cannot sue to collect. Texas issues no roofing licence at all; the only checkable credential is the voluntary RCAT licence, and no RCAT licensee is based in Bowie County.

Arkansas gives you three business days to cancel an insurance-funded roof contract after your insurer says in writing that all or part of the claim is not covered, and the roofer may not start work until that right expires. Texas has no such cancellation right in the statutes we read, but it makes promising to pay, waive or rebate a deductible a Class B misdemeanour and requires a boldface deductible notice on any claim-funded contract of $1,000 or more. Arkansas has no deductible statute.

Texarkana, Texas charges a flat $75 for a residential reroof permit, requires contractors to register free through its online portal and adopted the 2024 International Residential Code in April 2026. Texarkana, Arkansas will not issue any permit to a roofing or siding firm until a $300,000 liability insurance certificate is on file, and prices remodel permits by value: $35 for the first $2,000 and $8 for each further $1,000.

Across 2016 to 2025 Bowie, Miller and Little River counties logged 87 hail reports, the largest 2.75 inches at Winthrop in June 2023, 181 thunderstorm wind reports and 19 tornado records, with $10.8 million of recorded damage. An EF3 crossed New Boston in November 2022, and in June 2023 straight-line winds of up to 100 mph cut a 31-mile swath across southern Miller County. Both cities’ median home was built in 1979, and nearly half their homes are rented.

Texarkana roofers we checked

No residential roofer serving the metro clears our certified ranking floor, so none is ranked. These five are based in or near Texarkana and appear on Arkansas’s contractor roster; four are Owens Corning Preferred. The Arkansas register was offline when we checked, so the expiry dates come from the board’s April 2025 roster and several have since passed: confirm renewal before signing. They are not scored and we are not recommending them.

Roof replacement and repair in Texarkana, TX

Short answer: No residential roofer serving Texarkana clears our certified ranking floor, so none is ranked. Firms we checked include Langford Roofing and Construction, Bohon Roofing, Over the Top Roofing, Crouch Roofing and Finish 1 Roofing, none of them scored. The rule that matters most depends on the side: in Arkansas a roofer needs a bonded state roofing registration, while Texas licenses no roofers but makes a deductible rebate a crime.

Texarkana is one storm market split by State Line Avenue. Across 2016 to 2025 Bowie, Miller and Little River counties logged 87 hail reports, the largest 2.75 inches at Winthrop in June 2023, 181 thunderstorm wind reports and 19 tornado records, with $10.8 million of recorded damage. May, April and June have the most reports. The worst single event was the EF3 of about 140 mph that ran from south-west of Simms to New Boston on 4 November 2022, removing roofs and many walls from several structures and carrying $7 million of that damage. On 8 July 2024, as Beryl’s remnants crossed, an EF1 lifted the roofing off two homes on the Texas side.

Straight-line wind and winter add to that. In June 2023 straight-line winds of up to 100 mph cut a 31-mile swath across southern Miller County, and in February 2021 a winter storm left 9.5 inches of snow in Texarkana. Both cities’ median home was built in 1979. Texas has no statewide 25 percent roofing rule: state law makes the International Residential Code as it existed on May 1, 2012 the minimum code inside city limits, and each city may adopt a newer edition. Texarkana, Texas adopted the 2024 International Residential Code in April 2026, so the reroofing rules, including tear-off when the old roof is water soaked, deteriorated or already has two layers, come from that city’s code.

Permits differ by side. Texarkana, Texas charges a flat $75 for a residential reroof permit and requires contractors to register free through its online portal. Texarkana, Arkansas will not issue any permit to a roofing or siding firm until a $300,000 liability insurance certificate is on file, and prices remodel permits at $35 for the first $2,000 and $8 for each further $1,000. On the Arkansas side a roofer needs a Residential Contractors Committee roofing registration, backed by a $15,000 surety bond, or a state contractor licence whose classification covers roofing. Working without either is a misdemeanour each day, with civil penalties of $100 to $400 a day.

Consumer protections are split the other way round. Texas guards the deductible: promising to pay, waive or rebate it is a Class B misdemeanour, and a claim-funded contract of $1,000 or more must carry a boldface deductible notice. Arkansas guards cancellation: you have three business days to cancel an insurance-funded roof contract after your insurer says in writing that all or part of the claim is not covered, and work may not start before that. Of the firms we checked, Langford holds an Arkansas commercial licence with the roofing classification and Bohon lists residential shingle and metal roofing. The Arkansas register was offline when we checked, so confirm any firm’s renewal before signing.

What 2.75 inch hail does to a Texarkana roof

Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 3 counties of the Texarkana, TX-AR statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 87 hail reports, 181 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 19 tornadoes. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $10.8 million; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

The biggest hail to fall on Texarkana in a decade

Date Stone size Reported near County
13 June 2023 2.75 in Winthrop Little River
9 February 2020 2.0 in Peytonville Little River
29 April 2016 2.0 in Winthrop Little River
4 April 2025 1.75 in Redwater Bowie
6 April 2018 1.75 in Siloam Bowie
9 May 2016 1.75 in De Kalb Bowie

The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 13 June 2023 near Winthrop, measured at 2.75 inches. That is baseball sized, comfortably past the point where a roof is written off rather than repaired.

Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 87 knots, about 100 mph, near Boggy on 14 June 2023. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.

Tornadoes. 19 tornadoes touched down in these counties over the decade, the strongest rated EF3 near Bassett on 4 November 2022.

What the National Weather Service wrote about it

The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 14 June 2023 event near Kiblah, reproduced verbatim:

Straight-line winds were confirmed along a wide swath extending from Cass County, Texas across southern Miller County and into Lafayette County where trees were uprooted and snapped along a path measuring 3.5 miles wide and 31 miles long. Winds were estimated to be as high as 100 mph.

That is what the specification has to anticipate here, written up by the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.

When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in May (74), April (69), June (43). The worst years on record were 2016 (66), 2023 (37), 2021 (35). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Texarkana, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.

What to do with this. Hail is not the governing risk in Texarkana. Weight your decision toward wind rating, ventilation and flashing detail rather than paying extra for impact-rated shingles.

Two cities, two states, one storm market

The storms ignore the state line. On 8 July 2024, as Hurricane Beryl’s remnants crossed, an EF1 of about 90 mph touched down between King and Celeste avenues just north of Highway 82 on the Texas side and lifted the roofing off two homes and an older retail building; two more EF1 tornadoes crossed Miller County near Fouke within the hour. FEMA designated Bowie County for individual assistance. In February 2021 the same winter storm left 9.5 inches of snow in Texarkana and 11.5 inches north of Fouke.

The rules do not ignore it. A roofer working on the Arkansas side must hold a state roofing registration, backed by a $15,000 bond, or a contractor licence whose classification covers roofing, and the Arkansas city will not issue it a permit without a $300,000 liability certificate on file. On the Texas side there is no state licence, the city charges a flat $75 for a reroof permit, and RCAT’s voluntary licence directory showed no licensee anywhere in Bowie County when we checked.

Consumer protections are split the other way round. Texas guards the deductible: a roofer who promises to cover it commits a Class B misdemeanour, and a claim-funded contract must print a deductible notice. Arkansas guards the cancellation: you have three business days after a written claim denial to cancel, and no work may start before that. A 2025 Arkansas bill to add a deductible ban was withdrawn.

The worst damage of the decade fell outside the two cities. On 4 November 2022 an EF3 of about 140 mph ran 16 miles from south-west of Simms to the north side of New Boston, removing roofs and many walls from several structures, a few of them well built; it carries $7 million of the metro’s $10.8 million in recorded storm damage. In January 2018 an EF2 near De Kalb damaged 16 houses and 32 mobile homes.

For a homeowner the practical test is simple: if the house is in Arkansas, ask for the roofer’s Arkansas registration or licence and its liability certificate; if it is in Texas, check the contract for the deductible notice and refuse any offer to cover the deductible. Either way, the only certified firm in GAF’s directory here is a commercial roofer.

The checks worth making in Texarkana

There is no state roofing licence in TX. Texas does not issue or require a state roofing contractor licence. There is no state exam, no state licence number to check, and no state board that can discipline a roofer.

The Roofing Contractors Association of Texas (RCAT) runs a voluntary Licensed Roofing Contractor program. The applicant must have been a principal of a Texas-based roofing company with a physical address for at least two continuous years, pass a business and safety exam and a roofing exam at 70% or better, carry workers’ compensation or an equivalent plan or file as a nonsubscriber with the Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation, and hold at least $300,000 general liability insurance for residential work ($500,000 for commercial) or show that the firm can obtain a $100,000 surety bond, property bond or letter of credit. The licence renews yearly with 8 hours of continuing education. A 2025 bill to create a state reroofing licence (HB 3344) did not pass.

That absence is the most important fact on this page. Where a state issues no credential, a manufacturer certification that can be revoked is the only quality signal a homeowner can actually check, which is why this ranking is built on certification rather than star ratings.

Check here: RCAT licensed contractor lookup. Many Texas cities still require roofers to register with the municipality and pull a permit, so check with the city building department where the work will happen. Texas does protect the deductible: under Business and Commerce Code 27.02 a contractor who promises to pay, waive or rebate your insurance deductible commits a Class B misdemeanour, and a claim-funded contract of $1,000 or more must carry a boldface deductible notice.

For what a full replacement costs across Texas, including state labor rates and permit rules, see our Texas roof replacement cost guide.

Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.

  1. Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
  2. Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
  3. Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
  4. Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.

How these Texarkana rankings were produced

Every contractor in the Texarkana, TX-AR pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 0 certified contractors, of whom 0 hold President’s Club standing and 0 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 4.5. No contractor cleared the floor, so the alternatives listed above were instead researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. The findings are printed above whether they flatter the contractor or not, and nobody paid to appear.

Set aside in Texarkana. A contractor that would otherwise have scored into the top no was removed for the reason stated. The score is computed from public data, but where the research pass finds evidence undermining an input to that score, the score is set aside.

  • RBT Roofing, which scored 57.0: Excluded on core trade. A long-established Texarkana firm, but by its own website a nationwide commercial roofer for schools, government buildings and industrial facilities, with every service page under commercial roofing and no residential work shown.

The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page. What Texarkana homeowners want to know

Who are the best roofers in Texarkana, TX?

No residential roofer in Texarkana holds GAF certification with at least five reviews, so The Roofing Brief ranks none. It checked five local roofers instead: Langford Roofing and Construction, Bohon Roofing, Over the Top Roofing, Crouch Roofing and Finish 1 Roofing. On the Arkansas side a roofer must hold a state roofing registration or a contractor licence covering roofing; on the Texas side there is no licence, but promising to pay or waive your deductible is a crime.

What is the 25% rule for roofing in Texas?

Texas has no statewide 25 percent roofing rule. State law makes the International Residential Code as it existed on May 1, 2012 the minimum residential code inside city limits, and each city may adopt a newer edition, so reroofing rules come from your city’s adopted code. Texarkana, Texas adopted the 2024 International Residential Code in April 2026.

Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Texarkana?

Yes, on both sides. Texarkana, Texas charges a flat $75 for a residential reroof permit and requires contractors to register free through its online portal. Texarkana, Arkansas will not issue any permit to a roofing or siding firm until a $300,000 liability insurance certificate is on file.

Can a Texarkana roofer pay my insurance deductible?

Not on the Texas side: promising to pay, waive or rebate a deductible is a Class B misdemeanour, and a claim-funded contract of $1,000 or more must carry a boldface deductible notice. Arkansas has no deductible statute, though a 2025 bill to add a deductible ban was withdrawn.

Can I cancel a roofing contract in Texarkana, Arkansas?

Yes, in one case. Arkansas gives you three business days to cancel an insurance-funded roof contract after your insurer says in writing that all or part of the claim is not covered, and the roofer may not start work until that right expires. Texas has no such cancellation right in the statutes we read.

How many certified roofing contractors serve Texarkana?

0 contractors on the GAF certification registry serve the principal cities of the Texarkana, TX-AR statistical area as of October 2026, of which 0 hold President’s Club status.

How much damaging hail does Texarkana get?

The Texarkana, TX-AR statistical area recorded 59 hail reports of 1 inch or larger and 3 of 2 inches or larger between 2016 and 2025 in the NOAA Storm Events Database. The largest hailstone reported measured 2.75 inches.

Did any contractor pay to appear on this list?

No. The Roofing Brief takes no placement fees, no lead fees and no affiliate commission from any roofing contractor. Ranking comes entirely from the published formula applied to public registry data, followed by an individual research pass on every verified alternative listed.

What was the worst hailstorm in Texarkana in the last ten years?

The largest hailstone logged by the National Weather Service in the Texarkana, TX-AR statistical area between 2016 and 2025 measured 2.75 inches, reported near Winthrop on 13 June 2023. That is baseball sized, comfortably past the point where a roof is written off rather than repaired. Across the decade the metro recorded 87 hail reports. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $10.8 million; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

When is the worst time of year for roof damage in Texarkana?

Severe-weather reports in the Texarkana, TX-AR statistical area cluster in May, April, June, on the NOAA record for 2016 to 2025. If the work can wait, booking outside that window usually buys you shorter lead times and more of the contractor’s attention.

Do roofers need a licence in TX?

What should I check before hiring a roofer in Texarkana?

Many Texas cities still require roofers to register with the municipality and pull a permit, so check with the city building department where the work will happen. Texas does protect the deductible: under Business and Commerce Code 27.02 a contractor who promises to pay, waive or rebate your insurance deductible commits a Class B misdemeanour, and a claim-funded contract of $1,000 or more must carry a boldface deductible notice.

Two cities, two states, one storm market?

The storms ignore the state line. On 8 July 2024, as Hurricane Beryl’s remnants crossed, an EF1 of about 90 mph touched down between King and Celeste avenues just north of Highway 82 on the Texas side and lifted the roofing off two homes and an older retail building; two more EF1 tornadoes crossed Miller County near Fouke within the hour. FEMA designated Bowie County for individual assistance. In February 2021 the same winter storm left 9.5 inches of snow in Texarkana and 11.5 inches north of Fouke.

Is Texarkana a hard market to find a good roofer in?

Texarkana is one storm market split by a state line, and the rules change at State Line Avenue: Texas licenses no roofers but makes a deductible rebate a crime, while Arkansas requires a bonded roofing registration and gives you three business days to cancel after an insurer denies your claim. The storms do not notice; Beryl’s remnants lifted roofs on the Texas side in July 2024 while two more tornadoes crossed Miller County. The only certified firm in the directory is a commercial roofer, so none is ranked.

Is wind or hail the bigger risk to a roof in Texarkana?

Wind, by a wide margin. The Texarkana, TX-AR statistical area logged 181 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports against 59 hail reports of an inch or more between 2016 and 2025. Wind damage shows up at the rake, ridge and edge rather than across the field of the roof, so the fastening schedule and edge detail matter more here than the impact rating of the shingle.

Why is RBT Roofing not on this list?

Excluded on core trade. A long-established Texarkana firm, but by its own website a nationwide commercial roofer for schools, government buildings and industrial facilities, with every service page under commercial roofing and no residential work shown..
