Best Roofers in Sebring, FL: 2 Certified Contractors, Scored and Verified

Short answer: As of October 2026, the two highest-scoring roofing contractors in the Sebring, FL metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score are Frontline Roofing (69.6), Ameri-Con Enterprises (65.7). Every one holds a manufacturer certification that can be verified independently, every rating below has been corroborated against at least one source outside the certification registry, and no company paid to appear here.

The Roofing Brief scored 2 certified roofing contractors serving the Sebring metro on a published, reproducible formula, then researched each of the top two individually to confirm its record. Sebring is inland Florida hurricane country: Irma destroyed 144 homes or businesses in Highlands County and damaged more than 3,300 in 2017, Ian gusted to 78 mph at Sebring’s airport in 2022, and Milton’s tornadoes tore through a Lake Placid mobile home park in 2024. Over a fifth of the county’s homes are mobile homes and the median resident is 54. Florida licenses every roofer, and two certified firms serve the metro.

Quick picks for Sebring:

  • Frontline Roofing: best overall (TRB Score 69.6). Verified services: roof replacement, roof repair, metal roofing, commercial roofing, flat and low-slope roofing, gutters.
  • Ameri-Con Enterprises: best for Lake Placid homes (TRB Score 65.7). Verified services: roof replacement.

What actually ages a Sebring roof

Florida requires a state roofing certificate or registration to contract for roofing; even general and residential contractors must subcontract roofing unless they also hold one. The exemptions are narrow: owners working on their own home and casual minor jobs under $2,500. Unlicensed contracting is a misdemeanour, and a felony if done during a declared state of emergency. You can check any licence on the state’s DBPR lookup.

For roofing contracts signed since 1 July 2024, Florida’s recovery fund can pay up to $30,000 per claim to homeowners who lose money through specified violations by a licensed contractor. Florida also bars a roofer from offering a rebate, gift card or deductible waiver in exchange for an inspection or claim, and from adjusting your claim unless licensed as a public adjuster, with fines of up to $10,000 per violation.

Highlands County values a reroof at $115 per square for shingles or $150 for metal, then charges $75 for the first $1,000 plus $3 per $1,000, roughly $81 to $84 on a typical house, plus state surcharges. Roofing work of $2,500 or more needs a recorded Notice of Commencement, and inspectors can red-tag a job if the number of squares on the permit is misstated.

Under Florida’s 25 percent rule, if a roof was built or replaced to the 2007 Florida Building Code or later, replacing part of it only requires the repaired part to meet current code. Insurers may not refuse a policy solely because a roof is under 15 years old, and must accept an inspection by a licensed roofer for older roofs. Site-built homes in Sebring are designed for about 130 to 140 mph winds, mobile homes for 100 mph.

  • Jonathan Kyle Tucker holds Certified Roofing Contractor licence CCC1334421 and Certified Residential Contractor CRC1334052, both active to August 2028, trading as Frontline Roofing; no public complaints.. Florida DBPR
  • Sunset Roofing Company, Inc., filed October 2020 and active, with Jonathan and Rebekah Tucker as officers; Frontline Roofing is its trading name.. Florida Sunbiz
  • Accredited since September 2023 with an A+ rating; business started October 2020; no complaints; service area includes Highlands County.. BBB business profile
  • Serves Sarasota, Manatee, Hardee, DeSoto, Highlands and Polk counties; shingle, metal and commercial roofs and seamless gutters.. Company website

What they actually do. Shingle and metal reroofs, commercial low-slope roofing, repairs and seamless gutters.

Services we could verify: roof replacement, roof repair, metal roofing, commercial roofing, flat and low-slope roofing, gutters.

Why it ranks here. The top-rated firm in the pool, with 105 GAF reviews averaging 5.0, a state roofing certificate and a residential contractor licence held by its owner, and a clean BBB file. It is based in Wauchula, about 23 miles away in Hardee County, but both its site and BBB name Highlands County. The state business record and BBB agree on an October 2020 start.

Best fit for: Sebring and Avon Park homeowners replacing a shingle or metal roof who want a state-certified, BBB-accredited firm.

What we would want clarified. It is based outside the metro, and its owner’s current roofing certificate dates from 2023, so the public record does not show who qualified the company in its first two years. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

Verify the certification yourself on the GAF registry listing. The number carried on that listing is (863) 445-5155, which is the registry’s contact line and is often a directory tracking number rather than the contractor’s own: take the number from the company’s own website and compare the two.

2. Ameri-Con Enterprises: best for Lake Placid homes (TRB Score 65.7)

Ameri-Con Enterprises is based in Lake Placid, FL, led by David Kielb, president, Not accredited, A+ rating, no complaints, and holds Certified standing on the GAF certification registry.

  • Ameri-Con Enterprises, Inc., filed 2000 and active; principal address moved to Lake Placid in April 2022.. Florida Sunbiz
  • Filed as a general contractor; not accredited, A+; principals David and Trisha Kielb; no complaints in three years.. BBB business profile

What they actually do. Roof replacement and general contracting.

Services we could verify: roof replacement.

Why it ranks here. The only pool firm based in Highlands County, in Lake Placid, with 25 GAF reviews averaging 5.0. Its owner has held a state roofing certificate since 2006 and a general contractor certificate since 2005, with no public complaints, and also holds home inspector and mold licences.

Best fit for: Lake Placid homeowners who want a locally based, long-licensed roofer.

What we would want clarified. BBB files it as a general contractor, it has no website or published service area, and it moved to Highlands County from Broward only in 2022, so how much of its work is residential roofing is not clear from public records. We publish this because a ranking that only prints the flattering findings is an advertisement, not an assessment.

Roof replacement and repair in Sebring, FL

Short answer: In Sebring, start with Frontline Roofing, a state-certified, BBB-accredited Wauchula firm for shingle and metal reroofs, repairs and commercial low-slope work across Highlands County, and Ameri-Con Enterprises in Lake Placid, whose owner has held a state roofing certificate since 2006. The rule that matters most: Florida requires a state roofing certificate or registration to contract for roofing, and general contractors must subcontract roofing unless they hold one.

Hurricanes are the main roof threat in Highlands County. Irma, on 10 September 2017, destroyed 144 homes or businesses and gave 963 major damage, with an 85-knot gust at Archbold and 75 knots at the Sebring airport. Ian brought a 78 mph gust to Sebring Regional Airport on 28 September 2022, and on 9 October 2024 Milton produced five tornadoes, including an EF2 that damaged 20 to 30 units in the Tropical Harbor mobile home community near Lake Placid. Hail is rarer but real: on 4 April 2022 golf-ball hail near Sebring broke windows and punctured siding. With 21.8 percent of the county’s housing units mobile homes, designed for 100 mph against roughly 130 to 140 mph for site-built homes, wind exposure differs sharply by house type.

Highlands County values a reroof at $115 per square for shingles or $150 for metal, then charges $75 for the first $1,000 plus $3 per $1,000, roughly $81 to $84 on a typical house, plus state surcharges. Roofing work of $2,500 or more needs a recorded Notice of Commencement, and inspectors can red-tag a job if the squares on the permit are misstated. Section 706.1.1 of the Florida Building Code, Existing Building limits repair or replacement to 25 percent of a roof in any 12-month period unless the whole covering is brought up to current code, but on a roof built or replaced under the 2007 code or later only the repaired part must meet current code.

Florida bars a roofer from offering a rebate, gift card or deductible waiver in exchange for an inspection or claim, and from adjusting your claim unless licensed as a public adjuster, with fines of up to $10,000 per violation. For roofing contracts signed since 1 July 2024, the state recovery fund can pay up to $30,000 per claim for specified violations by a licensed contractor. Insurers may not refuse a policy solely because a roof is under 15 years old, and must accept an inspection by a licensed roofer for older roofs. On mismatched replacements, Fla. Stat. 626.9744(2) requires reasonable repair or replacement in adjoining areas unless the policy provides otherwise.

Frontline Roofing has 105 GAF reviews averaging 5.0 and does shingle and metal reroofs, commercial low-slope roofing, repairs and seamless gutters, though it is based about 23 miles away in Hardee County. Ameri-Con Enterprises is the only ranked firm based in Highlands County, with 25 reviews averaging 5.0, but BBB files it as a general contractor and how much of its work is residential roofing is not clear. Licensed local alternatives, not scored, include Cochran Brothers Roofing II and Quality Roofing & Sheet Metal of CFL in Sebring, Spires Roofing and Pure Roofing in Lake Placid, and David J Marley Roofing Contractors in Avon Park.

20 severe weather reports in a decade, and why that matters in Sebring

Aggregate hail counts tell you very little about a specific roof. These are the individual events: every severe-weather report logged by the National Weather Service across the 1 county of the Sebring, FL statistical area over ten years, with the dates, the stone sizes and the towns they landed on. Over that decade the metro logged 3 hail reports, 11 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports and 6 tornadoes. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $1.5 million; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

The biggest hail to fall on Sebring in a decade

Date Stone size Reported near County
4 April 2022 1.75 in Sebring Shores Highlands
4 April 2022 1.75 in Highlands Highlands
18 June 2022 1.0 in Avon Park Highlands

The largest stone on record for this metro fell on 4 April 2022 near Sebring Shores, measured at 1.75 inches. That is ping-pong-ball sized, enough to bruise asphalt shingles and shorten a roof’s life without necessarily looking dramatic from the ground.

Wind. The strongest thunderstorm gust logged in the metro was 55 knots, about 63 mph, near Lake Placid on 17 January 2016. Asphalt shingles begin lifting at roughly 67 mph when they are correctly nailed, and considerably below that when they are not.

Tornadoes. 6 tornadoes touched down in these counties over the decade, the strongest rated EF2 near Lake Placid on 9 October 2024.

What the National Weather Service wrote about it

The NWS logs a written account of each severe-weather episode. This is its description of the 17 January 2016 event near Lake Placid, reproduced verbatim:

A local newspaper reported damage to a few homes near H.L Bishop Park. One home had their lanai ripped off the home. Another resident had a few magnolia trees down in the yard while another had a tree fall through her bedroom window.

A roof in this metro is built against events like that one, as recorded by the agency that recorded it rather than by a contractor selling the repair.

When it happens. Severe weather reports cluster in March (6), October (5), May (3). The worst years on record were 2022 (7), 2024 (5), 2018 (4). If you are scheduling non-urgent work in Sebring, the months outside that window are when crews are least stretched and least likely to be triaging emergency callouts ahead of your job.

Source: NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information, Storm Events Database, county-level detail files 2016 to 2025, filtered to the counties of this statistical area by The Roofing Brief. Damage figures are as reported to the NWS and undercount insured losses.

What to do with this. Hail is not the governing risk in Sebring. Weight your decision toward wind rating, ventilation and flashing detail rather than paying extra for impact-rated shingles.

Three hurricanes in seven years over an inland county where a fifth of homes are mobile homes

Hurricane Irma crossed Highlands County on 10 September 2017. NOAA’s county record, citing Highlands County Emergency Management, lists 144 homes or businesses destroyed, 963 with major damage, 2,408 with minor damage and 9,623 more affected, with an estimated $360 million in individual assistance claims, mostly from wind. Archbold Biological Station recorded an 85-knot gust and the Sebring airport 75 knots.

Irma’s record also notes four indirect deaths in the county, among them a man who fell from a ladder in Lake Placid while preparing his home. Five years later Hurricane Ian brought a 78 mph gust to Sebring Regional Airport on 28 September 2022, with 5 to 10 inches of rain and a reported tornado near Lake Placid.

Hurricane Milton on 9 October 2024 produced five confirmed tornadoes in the county. The strongest, an EF2 of about 130 mph near Lake Placid, crossed Lake Clay into the Tropical Harbor mobile home community, where 20 to 30 units were damaged; carports were peeled off, a few homes had walls collapse after their roofs failed, injuring a woman sheltering in her bedroom, and one unit was shifted a foot off its supports with most of its roof gone.

Those storms land on a distinctive housing stock: 21.8 percent of Highlands County’s housing units are mobile homes, and its median resident is 54.2 years old. Federal rules design mobile homes here for 100 mph winds, while site-built homes in Sebring are designed for roughly 130 to 140 mph. Hail is rarer but real: on 4 April 2022 golf-ball hail near Sebring broke windows and punctured siding, with $500,000 recorded.

FEMA has declared five hurricane or tropical storm disasters for Highlands County since 2016: Irma, Ian, Nicole, Debby and Milton. After any of them, check the roofer’s state certificate before signing, refuse any offer to waive your deductible, which Florida bans, and keep the roofer out of your insurance negotiation unless it holds a public adjuster licence.

What to verify before a Sebring contractor starts

Licensing is required in FL. Florida requires anyone contracting for roofing work to hold a state roofing licence. A Certified Roofing Contractor licence is issued by the state and valid statewide; a Registered Roofing Contractor licence is also issued by the state, but only after the contractor meets a local jurisdiction’s competency requirements, and it is valid only in those jurisdictions. Narrow exemptions cover owners working on their own homes and casual work under $2,500 by someone who does not advertise as a contractor.

A general, building or residential contractor licence alone does not let a firm take on a reroof: it must subcontract the roofing unless it also holds a roofing licence, the only exception being shingles or shakes on a new building of its own construction. Since 2026, Fla. Stat. 553.79(1)(g) lets the owner of a single-family home, or the owner’s contractor, skip a building permit for work valued under $7,500 on written request, except in flood hazard areas and for structural, electrical, plumbing, mechanical or gas work; it does not change who must be licensed.

Check here: Florida DBPR licence search. The state’s licence record shows status, expiry and public complaints and discipline, but not every complaint, so ask the local building department too. The licence must show an Active status; a probation or other disciplinary notation is a warning sign to check the complaint record, while Inactive, Delinquent, Suspended, Revoked or Null and Void means the holder cannot contract, and a Registered contractor may work only in its registered jurisdictions. A company’s business record can show Current without being a licence, so check the qualifier’s own roofing certificate or registration.

For what a full replacement costs across Florida, including state labor rates and permit rules, see our Florida roof replacement cost guide.

Four checks to run before you sign anything, in any state.

  1. Verify certification at the source. Use the GAF verification tool rather than trusting a badge image on a company website.
  2. Get the certificate of insurance from the insurer, not the contractor, and confirm general liability and workers compensation are both active on the day work starts.
  3. Confirm who pulls the permit. If a contractor asks you to pull it as the homeowner, that moves liability onto you. Decline.
  4. Get warranty terms in writing before any deposit, and check the manufacturer warranty being promised actually requires the certification tier the contractor holds.

How deep the Sebring certified market really is

2 certified roofing contractors serve the principal cities of the Sebring, FL statistical area, of which 0 hold the top President’s Club tier. How these Sebring rankings were produced

Every contractor in the Sebring, FL pool was scored out of 100 on four published components: certification tier, a Bayesian adjusted rating, review depth and distance from the metro centre. In this metro that meant scoring 2 certified contractors, of whom 0 hold President’s Club standing and 0 Master Elite, against a metro mean rating of 4.867. The top two were then researched individually against Better Business Bureau records, state licence registers and manufacturer directories. Where that research turned up something awkward it is on the page, and no placement was paid for.

Set aside in Sebring. A contractor that would otherwise have scored into the top two was removed for the reason stated. The score is computed from public data, but where the research pass finds evidence undermining an input to that score, the score is set aside.

  • JSC Roofing, which scored 70.3: Excluded on service area. A Wauchula roofer in Hardee County whose website is now a parked domain for sale and whose current BBB service area lists eight counties but not Highlands, so there is no live published service area covering this metro.

The full method, the weightings, what the GAF certification tiers actually mean, who is eligible to be ranked and what we do not claim are all set out on our roofer ranking methodology page. Sebring roofing questions, answered

Who is the best roofer in Sebring, FL?

Frontline Roofing of Wauchula, FL scores highest in the Sebring metro on The Roofing Brief Contractor Score, at 69.6 out of 100 as of October 2026. It holds Certified certification with a 5.0 rating across 105 reviews. Highest-scoring is not the same as best fit for your specific job, and the company behind it scores within 3.9 points.

What is the 25% rule for roofing in Florida?

Section 706.1.1 of the Florida Building Code, Existing Building says no more than 25 percent of a roof or roof section may be repaired, replaced or recovered in any 12-month period unless the entire roof covering is brought up to current code. Since 2022, Fla. Stat. 553.844(5) says that if the roof was built, repaired or replaced under the 2007 Florida Building Code or later, only the portion being worked on must meet current code. So the full replacement trigger now matters mainly for roofs installed before the 2007 code applied.

Do I need a permit to replace a roof in Sebring?

Yes. Highlands County values a reroof at $115 per square for shingles or $150 for metal and charges $75 for the first $1,000 plus $3 per $1,000, roughly $81 to $84 on a typical house, plus state surcharges. Roofing work of $2,500 or more also needs a recorded Notice of Commencement.

What was the worst hailstorm in Sebring in the last ten years?

The largest hailstone logged by the National Weather Service in the Sebring, FL statistical area between 2016 and 2025 measured 1.75 inches, reported near Sebring Shores on 4 April 2022. Reported property damage from hail, severe wind and tornado over that decade totalled $1.5 million; flood and winter-storm losses are counted separately and are not included.

When is the worst time of year for roof damage in Sebring?

Severe-weather reports in the Sebring, FL statistical area cluster in March, October, May, on the NOAA record for 2016 to 2025. Outside those months local crews are not triaging storm damage, so lead times are shorter and scheduling is easier.

Do roofers need a licence in FL?

Florida requires anyone contracting for roofing work to hold a state roofing licence. A Certified Roofing Contractor licence is issued by the state and valid statewide; a Registered Roofing Contractor licence is also issued by the state, but only after the contractor meets a local jurisdiction’s competency requirements, and it is valid only in those jurisdictions. What should I check before hiring a roofer in Sebring?

The state’s licence record shows status, expiry and public complaints and discipline, but not every complaint, so ask the local building department too. The licence must show an Active status; a probation or other disciplinary notation is a warning sign to check the complaint record, while Inactive, Delinquent, Suspended, Revoked or Null and Void means the holder cannot contract, and a Registered contractor may work only in its registered jurisdictions. A company’s business record can show Current without being a licence, so check the qualifier’s own roofing certificate or registration.

Three hurricanes in seven years over an inland county where a fifth of homes are mobile homes?

Hurricane Irma crossed Highlands County on 10 September 2017. NOAA’s county record, citing Highlands County Emergency Management, lists 144 homes or businesses destroyed, 963 with major damage, 2,408 with minor damage and 9,623 more affected, with an estimated $360 million in individual assistance claims, mostly from wind. Archbold Biological Station recorded an 85-knot gust and the Sebring airport 75 knots.

Is Sebring a hard market to find a good roofer in?

Sebring is inland Florida hurricane country: Irma destroyed 144 homes or businesses in Highlands County and damaged more than 3,300 in 2017, Ian gusted to 78 mph at Sebring’s airport in 2022, and Milton’s tornadoes tore through a Lake Placid mobile home park in 2024. Over a fifth of the county’s homes are mobile homes and the median resident is 54. Florida licenses every roofer, and two certified firms serve the metro.

Is wind or hail the bigger risk to a roof in Sebring?

Wind, by a wide margin. The Sebring, FL statistical area logged 11 severe thunderstorm and high wind reports against 3 hail reports of an inch or more between 2016 and 2025. Wind damage shows up at the rake, ridge and edge rather than across the field of the roof, so the fastening schedule and edge detail matter more here than the impact rating of the shingle.

Why is JSC Roofing not on this list?

Excluded on service area. A Wauchula roofer in Hardee County whose website is now a parked domain for sale and whose current BBB service area lists eight counties but not Highlands, so there is no live published service area covering this metro..
